What should you bring to your dress fittings:
✅️ Wedding Shoes
(If you plan on changing shoes for the evening, I recommend having your hem pinned whilst wearing the shoes you will have on for your ceremony and photos)
✅️ Undergarments
(Bra, underskirt, shapewear if you're having any)
Optional:
🌼 Accessories
(Jewellery, hair pieces or veil)
🌼A friend or family member
(Useful to have someone who has been shown how to get you into your dress correctly and how to bustle the train)
What not to have at your dress fittings:
❎️ Heavy make up and lots of fake tan
(You do not want to risk marking your dress before the big day. There may not be time to have it professionally cleaned)
❎️ An entourage
(Apart from not having a huge amount of space, it's also distracting for the seamstress and the bride when there is a large party in attendance. I recommend 1 to 2 people at your fittings, if you wish)

Now THAT is a big train 😮 And those sparkles though 😍
Good Afternoon Brides. I'd come across this blog post from another bridal seamstress and it's spot on, I really wanted to share it with you. It explains why you won't gain anything from asking another bride what she is paying for her alterations.
In short, there are so many varying factors such as style and construction of dress, what alterations you need done to your dress, where in the country you are or so on. This is also why I won't give quotes without seeing the dress on you in person. A wedding dress hem is not simply a hem. It could be 2 layers, it could be 6 layers, it could be plain, it could have lace.

Why “What are you paying for wedding dress alterations?” will tell you nothing It’s the question in Facebook groups that makes me twitch: “What are you paying for your wedding dress alterations?” It’s usually asked to get an idea of how much the poster…
Wow! Check this out ladies!
Hi! That's me back to work and in my sewing room🧵🪡 I have 2 brides in today for first fittings 👰♂️
I wanted to do a quick introduction for those who are new to my account or who don't know much about me. My name is Christine, and I run Christine Louise Alterations, a sewing service specialising in bridal and special occasion alterations as well as general clothing alterations and soft furnishings. My husband and I have lived in Inverness for 10 years now and love life in the Highlands. We have two young children, the youngest just turned 6 months, and a very active young doggy, so I only work about 3 days a week to try and juggle the work-life- family balance. This means that appointments fill up quickly, and it's important to book in with plenty of time for your alterations.
If you have any questions, please feel free to get in touch.

Fab tip ladies!
Hello! 👋 Remember me? It's been about 5 months since my last update, so I wanted to pop on and say that I'm still here! My wee tooty baby is now a solid 8kg and is desperate to get moving 🫣
The start of June also marks 8 years of Christine Louise Alterations! Last year was my busiest bridal year to date. I feel like I'm missing out this year as I don't start back at work until July, but that also gives me all of June to squeeze in baby time!
I still have plenty of availability for weddings for September onwards and also lots of brides booking in for 2025 weddings!
I recommend booking your first fitting for 10 to 12 weeks before your wedding so remember to book your appointment in plenty of time!

It has taken me ages to get around to doing this post. Still adjusting to 2 kids 😆
👰♀ Zuza 👰♀
Zuza was married last year and sent over these beautiful photos and this amazing review 💓
'I couldn’t recommend Christine Louise Alterations enough. Truly talented in what she does and a genuinely lovely person, with a lot of patience. Thank you again for all the work you put in to make me feel so stunning all day long. Any future brides look no further visit Christine.'
Zuza's alterations included lifting the shoulders, taking in the sides, taking up the length and adding a bustle for her train.
Alterations were also carried out on two of her bridesmaids dresses.
In the last photo, you can see my 'Something a little blue thank you card', which I gift to my brides when they take their dresses away after their final fitting.

👰♀ Hazel 👰♀
Hazel got married last year. Her alterations included taking the bodice in at the sides, lifting the shoulders, shorting the lace sleeves, taking up the length and adding a bustle. The train on Hazel's dress was quite long and weighty so trying to find a suitable bustle option proved challenging. Hazel opted to add wrist loops to the train so it could be held up whilst dancing.
Back in the sewing room this week and already 3 wedding dresses away after their final fittings 🩷
This afternoon I've been working on a shawl for Lesley. The lace trim is being added to fabric leftover from a dress I made for her.
👰♂️ Karen 👰♂️
I just want to say wow! I have been looking forward to sharing these, and today, the email from Karen and Kyle came through with some photos, and I was not disappointed! What a stunning venue, and what a gorgeous looking day!
I altered Karen's dress and some of her bridesmaids' dresses.
Karen's alterations included pulling in the bust at the front, taking up the length, and adding a bustle to hook up the train for later in the evening. This beautiful dress has about 10 layers in the skirt with the top layer edged in lace. Absolutely stunning! 🖤
Thank you Karen for sharing these!

👰♂️ Leigh and her Bridesmaids 💐
Leigh kindly shared this beautiful photo from her wedding two weekends ago.
Leigh's alterations included taking in the sides of her bodice, taking up the length and adding a bustle. All of Leigh's bridesmaids had dress alterations which included taking in the straps, altering the sides and taking up the length.
On my sewing table this morning ✂️
Unpicking this lace edging to reposition at the new hemline. Most lace is sewn on with a fine, invisible (clear) thread, which makes removing it a bit tricky and time consuming. Thankfully the threads on the back of this fabric pulled out really easily!
