I'm currently trying to find new hosts in the Keighley area to join the local monthly Sunday afternoon tea party social group for older isolated people.
If you feel like you could open your home, or a community space and welcome the group with tea and biscuits, then please visit the Re-engage website and register as a host. You'll be joining an existing group of lovely local volunteers and helping to reduce social isolation in older people.

What could be better than a warm welcome and a table of tasty treats? Like this one hosted by Sadie and her family, our tea parties are just one way we create social connections for people aged 75 and older.

Each month, up and down the UK, guests are collected from their homes and returned by our volunteer drivers. Our hosts offer their time to set the scene for an afternoon of good food, companionship and connection.

In a recent survey, 85% of guests told us they have made friends and 81% feel happier as a result of attending tea parties. One guest said: “I am really grateful to be a part of Re-engage. I really look forward to the tea parties and have made some lovely friends.”

Thanks to Talking Tables for donating the decorations and to our volunteers for delivering another successful tea party.

We also run activity groups to help bring gentle exercise into the lives of participants and a call companion service for friendly weekly calls.

Keighley firm launches appeal for Christmas trees & decorations A KEIGHLEY firm has launched an appeal for donations of unwanted festive decorations and artificial Christmas trees.

🌲🌲 It’s 1st December and Christmas has arrived at Pickard Hardware! 🌲🌲

The tree is up and our windows have been beautifully decorated thanks to Laureana Auty Artist / Illustrator

The countdown has begun and, as one customer said: “it’s not officially Christmas until the Pickard tree goes up!”

Don’t forget our Christmas tree appeal too. We are collecting unwanted artificial trees to pass on to local families and organisations that may otherwise not have a tree. Donations can be left with our counter staff. TIA 😊

Don’t you just love a random act of kindness?!

One of our lovely reps, Mark from , popped in today for a catch-up and noticed an increasingly large heap of Christmas decorations.

🌲🌲🌲 When he asked what it was for we explained that we were collecting unwanted decorations to pass on to others but we were still lacking in Christmas trees. So he immediately nipped out and bought a BRAND NEW TREE to pass on to a family or organisation or low income.🌲🌲🌲

Thank you Mark for your Christmas spirit! The tree will be going to a good home.

If anyone else has a tree to donate, be it used or brand new, they can be left with our counter staff during opening hours. TIA

We are collecting unwanted Christmas trees and decorations to pass on and have now been given lots of decorations but we are still in need of lots of trees.

It’s FAQ Friday so we’re trying to help our customers by clarifying some common hardware definitions.

Locks can seem quite technical but there not really and there’s a lot of jargon and old fashioned terms used to describe them.

So do you know what a “deadlock” is?

It’s a lock that has a keyhole and the key turns a bolt to lock or unlock the door.

There are both mortice and rim deadlocks. They are not latches and don’t spring back.

What is “ironmongery”?

We know this term sounds a bit old fashioned but it is still commonly used in the hardware industry.

Traditionally it covered all those iron parts needed on doors, windows and furniture but now ironmongery includes products made of steel, aluminium and brass.

Ironmongery is a type of hardware so at Pickard Hardware we do specialise in ironmongery but we also sell other types of hardware such as tools, fixings, parts, etc.

However we DON’T sell computer hardware. We’d have no idea! 😂

This deserving charity helps rescue and rehome dogs in the Keighley area through its network of foster homes and potential adoptee families. They need to raise funds to pay for vets bills, equipment and support.

Here is the recently adopted Moggie showing you where the entrance is to our shop is on Airedale Road in Keighley, just off the A650.

Calendars cost £7 each or £12 for 2 with all profits going to this great cause. They make a perfect Christmas present for any dog lover.

How long have you worked for Pickard Hardware: Since January 2022

Hobbies: I love travelling and going to festivals and live music events. I also have a keen interest in interior design following years working at the lovely ; this interest led to me working for Pickard Hardware as a customer originally.

Favourite food: I could never ever pick a favourite but I love trying the best foods wherever I am in the World.

Favourite holiday destination: Would have to be Cinqueterre in Italy. Absolutely amazing! 🇮🇹

Claim to fame: My great uncle was the actor that played the Werther’s Original grandad in the cheesy advert back in the 90s.
