🎨NEW DAVID CURTIS OIL BRUSH SET🎨
“I like the little Ivory Long Flat for the more finite areas in a painting. I use the Ivory Short Flats for anything on a finer canvas or board, you need these! I don’t have a specific use for each size, they are a work horse to use across the entire range. For any gesso primer and texture work, the Ivory Short Flats are fabulous. The two little Ivory riggers are used for sweeping, long thin lines. For example rigging on ships or telegraph posts, thin masts on boats. Anything that needs a thin sweeping line - they are wonderful. There’s a little bit more body to the size 2. For the body of my paintings I use the sizes 1, 2, 3’s and then as I get to the big broader areas, I move to the sizes 5, 7 8 and above. It’s not an exact science, I work my way through all the ranges.
The use of Rosemary brushes for both oils and watercolours for me allows a surety of expression and delight in paint application in both plein air and that more considered work in the studio setting.” David Curtis, 2024

I thought it would be fun to share with you two images from - the first being a watercolour and then the second being the same reference but in Oils.
David is a true master of our time. 🙌🏼
A beautiful watercolour I wanted to share with you all from 💫
Be sure to check out David’s new watercolour brush set with us - and below is a video we filmed together recently describing the brushes and their uses!
🎨 NEW DAVID CURTIS WATERCOLOUR BRUSH SET🎨
David Curtis is a member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. He is one of the UK’s most successful and best known artists. David won first prize in the Singer and Friedlander/Sunday Times Watercolour Competition in 1992, and has won many other awards for his spectacular art. Consequently, his paintings have a strong visual presence and enable the spectator to embark on an exciting visual journey. Essentially a “plein air” and figurative painter, working in both oil and watercolours, he is the author of numerous books and has work in collections all over the world.
“I’ve found that especially with watercolour, if the quality falls short of expectations, you’re on a losing wicket to start with. A quality Kolinsky sable brush from Rosemary & Co, with a springy feel and an excellent point will enhance confidence as you progress with the various washes. For most watercolourists out in the field, these brushes will surely satisfy your needs. These are the ones I have used on so many occasions and have stood up to the rigours of my ‘full on’ style of working. I’ve had these brushes from Rosemary & Co for quite some time and they are still perfectly usable. Dip them in water and give them a ‘flick’ and even now they retain that perfect point. They also have a marvellous reservoir capability and as long as you look after them, they should last you a very long time.” David Curtis, 2024

✨NEW ALEX VENEZIA BRUSH SET✨
“I’ve been exclusively using Rosemary & Co. brushes for years now, and I’ve tried many of their brushes before settling into this great set. These are the main brushes I’ve found myself always grabbing when working on my figurative and still-life work. In my search for capturing the organic essence of each subject in my paintings, I rely on a diverse array of brushes to bring that vision to life. Each brush selection is a deliberate response to the unique demands of the subject at hand and the particular stage of the artistic process.
During the initial phases, when the priority is to lay down paint with precision and richness, I turn to my Eclipse range of brushes. For their softness, it allows me to lay down paint without lifting any and creates beautiful edge work. For this same reason, it’s also my go-to for Alla Prima painting brush and the best mongoose replacement I’ve used. Then, the Snowdrop fans have emerged as invaluable tools adept at traversing across the form and give the work a palpable three-dimensional quality, akin to sculpting. As the painting progresses, I transition to the ivory pointed rounds for delicate scumbling and glazing. This brush being slightly more stiff allows little pieces of the underpainting to show through which can give a nice effect. A great brush for scrubbing when they’ve been worn down a bit. Finally, the synthetic rounds come into play, offering precision for refining intricate details and honing small shapes and edges” Alex Venezia

Our 💫 new 💫 design for the Set 170. Masters Choice Set insert!
We’ve put this set together consisting of our most popular shapes and sizes to give you a taster of what this hair has to offer.
The Series 279. Masters Choice Long Flats and the Series 278. Masters Choice Long Filberts were designed and developed with the help of some of America’s finest oil painters. Thank you Morgan Weistling, Tony Pro and Jeremy Lipking. The Series 105. Masters Choice Fans brush is what we would consider, the best fan brush available. This brush should become a little go-to for you to soften and knock back edges easily. They have the right fill of hair to make them soft enough to move paint around without picking it back up. The perfect little blending brush! The Series 275. Masters Choice Angular is a favourite for many botanical artists. They hold a chisel edge and yet can be used on their side and with a point. They are a 3-in-1 brush and I’m sure you’ll consider them a favourite from this set! The Series 276. Masters Choice Filberts are excellent for intricate detail, getting into corners and for a fuller stroke than a typical round brush. The Series 272. Masters Choice Rounds larger rounds are brilliant for laying on colour and broader marks and as they go smaller they are ideal for blending. The Series 274. Masters Choice Flats allow a much sturdier brush with a stronger “snap” creating sharper edges and control. Ideal for blocking in and impasto. The Series 273. Masters Choice Riggers (also known as a liner or script brush) is great for thin, fine lines. For example, tree branches, tufts of grass, hair and of course for drawing. The longer length of the hair gives a flexible and forgiving brush stroke.

🪄 ROSEMARY & CO - SET 170. MASTERS CHOICE FOR OILS 🪄
✨The Masters Choice is an interesting hair with distinctive markings and a semi-stiff firmness of stroke, made from a blend of male & female badger hairs. The hair is responsive and firm, yet gives almost a velvet feel. They are a unique blend of badger hairs (once were the mongoose hair).
They are absolutely brilliant for Alla Prima work, allowing you to work ‘wet on wet’ without pulling the paint away.
They are ideal for adding highlights and tonal values. They are resilient, and will wear down well. A favourite for portrait painters, landscapes and Alla Prima work. The entire range of the Masters Choice are excellent for blending in Oils. ✨
