So...what does a stay on our farm look like? ⛺
Sizergh Caravan and Camping is sited on the southern edge of the Lake District near Kendal.
Cumbria is home to some of Britain’s oldest farms and agricultural traditions, and records show that there’s been a farm on the Low Sizergh site since the 13th century. Our family farm is an organic dairy farm. 341 acres in total, it’s home to a cross bred dairy herd of Holsteins, Swedish Reds and Montbeliardes – as well as a flock of 200 sheep.
The caravan and camp site provides a unique perspective of life on the farm. Wander up the lane and you’ll find the 17th century Westmorland stone barn, which houses our farm shop and café, Low Sizergh Barn. Head down the field and you will pick up our farm trail, which weaves down to the pond, through the farm’s fields and into the woods – passing the cows and hens in the fields and the vegetable plots at Growing Well.
We also offer raw milk from a vending machine just yards from our milking parlour, where you can fill glass bottles with fresh organic milk straight from the herd. The herd is certified organic due to their 100% organic, GM free, grass-based diet. The feed the cows eat is never sprayed with chemical fertilisers, pesticides or herbicides, and their raw milk is unpasteurised (not heat-treated) and not homogenised (it has a cream line). It’s an un-processed food that is naturally flavoured by the pasture the cows are grazing.

When exploring your surroundings here at Sizergh Caravan & Camping, you may notice some humps and bumps on Sizergh Fell. The humps and bumps on Sizergh Fell are a curious feature.
These large earthy mounds are covered by vegetation and contain a nest of yellow meadow ants underground. The ants spend most of their lives within the mounds so they’re rarely seen.
It’s a natural circular economy in the anthill world with the mound helping regulate nest temperature and humidity, the ants defecating in soil crevices and providing plants with nutrients, the plant roots providing food for the aphids the ants eat, and the plant rhizomes and roots also reinforcing the whole structure.
There’s even one flatter face oriented towards the early morning sunshine for its warming effects.
Connect a Sizergh Fell walk with the farm shop and café and you can refill your water bottles, refuel, and find local maps and books with inspiring route suggestions for future strolls.
During your stay with us, a walk on the farm trail is a MUST. Here's a little insight into what that looks like...
Nothing beats a winter sunrise. Imagine waking up to this 😍
While summer tends to be the season for visitors in the Lakes, we'd argue that winter has just as much to offer. Check out this beautiful wintery view from the campsite...
What will come into view with a few moments’ stillness by the pond on the farm trail?
We're Halloween-ready here at Sizergh Caravan & Camping. Will you be joining us for a lovely autumnal stay?
Did you catch our campsite on The Perfect Pitch?! Watch it here on All 4: https://www.channel4.com/programmes/the-perfect-pitch
"With a revolving cast of camping enthusiasts to help reveal Britain’s lesser-championed treasures, The Perfect Pitch is ideal for helping you plan a holiday, wherever you find yourself on these isles.
Be it in their beloved caravans, campervans or motorhomes, our site hosts bring us their favourite spots. Each week, three sets of campers explore a popular holiday region, from the awe-inspiring Lake District to the rugged Pembrokeshire Coast, and stay at the region’s top campsites. Which of the five campsites will win the ‘Perfect Pitch’ regional title?
This week, campers begin their motorhome and caravan tour of the region at Low Sizergh Farm, Lake District. The tranquil site offers the campers a true farm experience as they milk the cows, before harvesting greens and flowers on a trip to local Sizergh Castle, and splash onto the lakes with team raft building at Fell Foot on Windermere."

Every day is a farmer's breakfast day. A hearty start to the day for all campers 🍴
There's a whole new realm to uncover on the Low Sizergh farm trail.
Take a walk down to the pond on the free farm trail and you may be able to help us solve a mystery...
Who has moved in? Do these houses belong to faeries or bogeymen? Or could it be the shy, water-loving tizzie whizies who are usually spotted near Lake Windermere?
Let us know if you see anything or anyone while you are on your adventures...

"Is there any better way to start the day?! A lovely full English from Low Sizergh Barn 🥓" – IG: lakes_eats
The answer is no...no there is not.
Nature-spotting on the farm trail will be sure to keep you busy for an hour or two. Look out for butterflies, birds, bees, flowers, rabbits and more. With the sun shining, it's a lovely activity for both young and old.
Milker Yanni had to step out of the milking parlour for a breather. Don't forget you can watch the cows being milked every day around 3.30pm from the cafe! 🐮
When the campers get hungry, a stop off at the cafe ought to do the trick. This tasty Cumbrian cheese board is on the menu currently, with four local cheeses (including one made from our very own milk), homemade oatcakes and our apple chutney.
The pet lambs (reared by humans for one reason or another) have been put in the orchard next the campsite so every can keep an eye on them 🐑
It's been wonderful seeing so many faces at the campsite, farm shop and cafe. The sunny weather means it's the perfect time to explore the surrounding area, using Sizergh Caravan & Camping as your base.
