England number 6 Chris Doran was back with us today and this time he brought a friend in the shape of Toby Ellis (11 in England and no.2 in England u21s). Finally Alex has a decent sparring partner!

It was great to have Chris Doran with us again. This time with Hannah Silcock who recently won the women's event at the London Grand Prix.🥇👏 Hannah is a great player and put in some hardwork with Chris during her 1-2-1. I was fortunate enough to have a small knock with Hannah and her switches down the line where incredible! Check out the short video below of Hannah and Chris knocking!🏓

Thanks to all those who came to our club AGM tonight, and to the various team captains who all kindly agreed to carry on in their roles for the 2024-25 season. Nothing better after sitting around a table for a meeting then to get some exercise and coach Henry decided to get coach Alex working hard physically by having him train across two tables. This had the added benefit of meaning Henry could keep the ball on the table most of the time too!

Mia played in her first 'big' table tennis tournament today, representing her school in the girls under 11 National Schools Tournament in Wolverhampton. There were six players in her group, including the number 2 seed (ranked at number 3 on the national ranking list). Mia won three and lost two of her matches to finish in a 3-way tie for the runner-up position in the group, behind the seeded player. So the group went to count back to see who qualified through to the ko stages as r-up but this didn't go in Mia's favour and she ended up in third place in the group. A great first tournament nonetheless for Mia as she continues her development in the sport.

Well done to all the young Smashers tonight. Bradley, Charlie, Samuel and Mia all made their competitive debuts, and they were joined by Andy and Prithvi. For Charlie, Bradley and Samuel, they gained some excellent match experience and got to saw the standard of play that they can strive to attain. The same goes for Mia too, who also achieved some success on the night too. There were just 3 girls in the girls event, and the round-robin format saw each girl win 1 match each and so it went to countback, and Mia claimed 2nd place, ahead of Ella from Corby, and behind Janvi from Highfield, having lost 1-3 to Ella, and then beating the eventual champion Janvi 3-2. Well done Mia. It was a particularly successful night in the doubles with Mia and Prithvi winning the under 13 doubles (they were 0-2 in the semi-final), and Andy and Prithvi (last years under 13 doubles champions) teaming up once again to take the under 15 doubles title 3-2 v the Koszyk brothers from Westfield in a fantastic match. Due to some long matches, the under 13 and under 15 boys finals were not able to be played so they will be getting played from 8.30 tomorrow morning. Prithvi is through to both finals and he will play Bart Koszyk in the 13s, and Adam Koszyk in the 15s. Both matches will feature some fantastic play from all players that's for sure and will be well worth watching. Good luck tomorrow to Prithvi initially, and then to all other Smashers throughout the day.

With the last weekend of SBL starting tommorow, the Smash Kettering players have been getting ready for the final weekend.🏓 Check out some short clips of Ryan Gaveglia and Alex Cochrane getting some practice in before Saturdays and Sundays matches. Good luck to both of our teams that are playing this weekend 👍
