Another week of matches completed in our Individual league.

Only eight players participated this week however we had five players that were Premier Division Kettering League standard so there were some very good and incredibly close games played.

In the first stage of groups:
Alex Cochrane took first place after a tough battle against Henry Arthur.
Henry went 2nl up and 10-6 up in the 5th before narrowly loosing in duce 12-10 in the 5th.
This left Henry in second place after beating Corby Town Table Tennis Club player Jonathon Lane and Smash regular Marcus Singh.
Jonathon put in a good performance but Marcus remained consistent and as a result took third place leaving Jonathon 4th in group one.
Group 2 had another close match for first and second with Ashley Bennett narrowly beating Ben Aldrige after coming back from 2-1 down.
This left Ben in second place after beating Callum Donaldson and Ryan Adamson in his group.
Callum claimed third place after beating Ryan. Callum has put a lot of hard work into training recently and as a result his scores against the other players have greatly improved.

In the second round of matches the top two players and bottom two players of each group went into another group with each other.

Marcus played well and remained consistent in group two of the second stage and finished first winning his next three matches 3nl.
Callum claimed his first second place position defeating both Ryan and Jonathon.
Jonathon finished in 3rd leaving Ryan in 4th
Final Standings of group 2:
1)Marcus Singh ๐Ÿฅ‡2)Callum Donaldson๐Ÿฅˆ3)Jonathon Lane๐Ÿฅ‰ 4) Ryan Adamson

In group one of the second stage Ashley Bennett had to unfortunatley withdraw .
Alex took first place after beating Ben Aldrige 3-1 and beating Hentlry in the rematch 3nl
Henry and Ben clashed for second place with Ben leading 2-0 amd 10-8 up in the 3rd however Henry remained calm a fought back to win 11-6 in the 5th
Final Standings of group 1
1) Alex Cochrane๐Ÿฅ‡ 2) Henry Arthur๐Ÿฅˆ 3) Ben Aldrige๐Ÿฅ‰
Good luck to all those playing in the league tonight!๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿคž

Hi all,
See below the report for last weeks matches:
Week three of the Smash Individual Summer League was played last week Thursday. We had nine participants for the night so two stages of three groups of three were played giving each player four matches on the night. ๐Ÿ“

In the first stage the three seeded players of the evening, Alex Cochrane, Ashley Bennett and Henry Arthur each won their respective groups to advance to the band one group of the second stage.๐Ÿฅ‡

Marcus Singh, Ben Aldridge and Steve Codrington all finished second in their respective groups to progress to band two in the second stage.๐Ÿฅˆ

James Lock, Bello Duafe and Mike Burrows finished third in their groups and so they played the second stage against each other in band three.๐Ÿฅ‰

For the first time this season all nine players ended up in the band there ranking would place them in making it very close for each band in the next round of groups matches.

Band three had several close matches but saw Bello Duafe come out on top after two best of fives against James Lock and Mike Burrows. Mike and James played for second with Mike coming out on top to take second place for band three. After struggling in previous weeks Bello did well to pick up his two wins on the night showing great improvement.๐Ÿ™Œ

Band two also had several close matches with Marcus Singh narrowly loosing to Ben Aldridge in five ends but beating Steve Codrington in the fifth. Steve and Ben also battled it out with Ben coming out on top, ultimately winning in the fourth for a 3-1 win. This was Bens first week playing the league but heโ€™s had a good start and is currently sitting on a 75%-win average only losing to Alex Cochrane.๐Ÿ‘Š

Band one followed suit by having two best of fives as well. Ashley Bennett, in his Smash Individual league debut, took out Smash Kettering coach Henry Arthur in 3-2 epic. Ashley then clashed with our other Smash Kettering coach, Alex Cochrane, for another close 3-2 battle however Cochrane proved just too much in the end winning 3-2. Cochrane and Arthur played and intriguing match both often swapping to their left hands. Clearly Cochrane was the better faux lefty on the night as he won 3-0nl.๐Ÿ‘

I look forward to seeing those of you coming tonight. We start at 7:30pm with arrival from 7:00pm-7:15pm.
Let us know if you'd like to play!
Good luck to all playing this evening and well played to all who participated last week.๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ“

England number 6 Chris Doran was back with us today and this time he brought a friend in the shape of Toby Ellis (11 in England and no.2 in England u21s). Finally Alex has a decent sparring partner!

10/07/2024

It was great to have Chris Doran with us again. This time with Hannah Silcock who recently won the women's event at the London Grand Prix.๐Ÿฅ‡๐Ÿ‘
Hannah is a great player and put in some hardwork with Chris during her 1-2-1.
I was fortunate enough to have a small knock with Hannah and her switches down the line where incredible!
Check out the short video below of Hannah and Chris knocking!๐Ÿ“

Hi all,
See below the report for last weeks matches:

Last Thursday was the second week of our Individual Summer league and we once again had many great matches played on the night.๐Ÿ“

As we had 11 players, we decided to have three groups consisting of two groups of four and one group of three. This meant we had three seeded players on the night who were Alex Cochrane, Ryan Gaveglia and Henry Arthur.

First stage:

In the first group Alex Cochrane finished first winning all three of his matches however it went to count back for the other players as Jon Dyson, Andy Parrott and Marcus Singh, all beat one another leaving each with an individual win. After count back Jon finished in second, Marcus in third and Andy in fourth๐Ÿ™Œ

In the second group Ryan Gaveglia took first, also winning all his matches with Tyler Hillery coming in second with two wins and Callum Donaldson and Bello Duafe taking third and fourth.๐Ÿ’ช

In the third group Steve Codrington took out third seed Henry Arthur in a very close match to come first-place in the group. Tor West-Ley had two very close games as well against Henry and Steve but an injury for Tor and Henry and Steveโ€™s experience proved just too much for Tor on this occasion.๐Ÿ‘

Second stage:

We had 3 groups for our final stage of the night.

In the third and fourth place group Marcus Singh took the win winning all three of his matches after a challenging night of intense games. Bello Duafe took second place after getting revenge on Callum 3nl and taking down Andy Parrott 3-1. Final Standing for the group was Marcus first๐Ÿฅ‡, Bello second๐Ÿฅˆ, Andy third and Callum fourth

In the second-place group there was a major upset when Jon Dyson found some much needed confidence in his attacking shots, particularly his backhand punch. He took down both Henry and Tyler to take first place in the group. Henry and Tyler took each other on with Tyler narrowly beating Henry 11-7 in the fourth for a 3-1 win. Final Standing for the group was Jon first๐Ÿฅ‡, Tyler second๐Ÿฅˆ and Henry 3rd

In the first-place group Alex and Ryan clashed once again however were joined by Steve Codrington this time. Both Alex and Ryan took Steve down 3nl and 3-1 however Steve made sure it wasnโ€™t easy and pulled out some great shots to keep them under pressure and to make it a challenging game. Cochrane and Gaveglia played again in an intense game that went to five ends. In the end, Alex took the win 11-7 in the 5th after going 2-0 up. The final Standing of the group was Alex first๐Ÿฅ‡, Ryan second ๐Ÿฅˆand Steve third

Our next match night will be Thursday 18 July so be sure to join us for some great matches.๐Ÿ“

Well played to all who took part on the night and good luck to all those that play in the future!

29/06/2024

We love seeing Prithvi (and dad Vivek Menon) when they get a chance to pop back home to us here at Smash Table Tennis Kettering. We also love it when players from other clubs pop in for some additional coaching. And we also love seeing our adult Smashers training to be the best that they can be. We do love a lot of things!

Good luck Prithvi and Tor (and Andy D) tomorrow in the under 15 tournament at BATTS down in Harlow, Essex.

In the first stage of the night, we had two groups of five battle it out to get as many wins as possible.

Ryan Gaveglia won his group, also undefeated๐Ÿฅ‡, by beating Andy Parrott, Andy Deathridge, Mike Burrows and Cosmin Cotnareanu

Alex Cochrane and Ryan Gaveglia battled for first and second place with Cochrane taking the win over Gaveglia 11-8 in the fourth for a 3-1 win๐Ÿฅ‡๐Ÿฅˆ

Marcus Singh and Andy Parrott both finished second in their groups and played off for third and fourth place with Marcus taking the win 11-8 in the fourth for another 3-1 win ๐Ÿฅ‰

Andy Logan and Andy Deathridge played off for fifth and sixth place after both finishing third in their groups. Andy Logan had a strong performance winning 3nl, 11-2 in the last end.๐Ÿ’ช

Jon Dyson and Cosmin Cotnareanu played for seventh and eighth with Jon narrowly scrapping by 12-10 in the 5th with the previous four ends finishing 11-9 in each.๐Ÿ‘

James Lock and Mike Burrows played off for ninth and tenth after both finished last in their groups with some close games. Mike played well and managed to take the win 3nl to end the night.๐Ÿ™Œ

Our next night for the league will be tomorrow evening Thursday 27 June. All are welcome to play, Smash and non-Smash players. Arrive before 7:15pm for a 7:30pm start, ideally let me know your attendance before hand by msg on Facebook or email but walk inโ€™s before 7:15pm are allowed as well.

Well played to everyone on the night ๐Ÿ‘ and good luck to all who play in the future ๐Ÿคž.

11/06/2024

Thanks to all those who came to our club AGM tonight, and to the various team captains who all kindly agreed to carry on in their roles for the 2024-25 season.

Nothing better after sitting around a table for a meeting then to get some exercise and coach Henry decided to get coach Alex working hard physically by having him train across two tables. This had the added benefit of meaning Henry could keep the ball on the table most of the time too!

24/05/2024

Best of luck to Ryan Gaveglia and Alex Cochrane who are both competing in the Gloucester GP this weekend. And also to young Mia who is attending a girls' talent I.D. day in Nottingham. Great to see Smashers getting out and about ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ“

Group 1: Colin Wilson 1st, Steve Codrington 2nd
Group 2: Alex Cochrane 1st, Andy Logan 2nd
Group 3: Ryan Gaveglia 1st, Liam Constable 2nd
Group 4: Dawid Przybysz 1st, Scott Dixon 2nd
From here the knockout took place with Colin beating Scott, Alex beating Steve, Ryan beating Andy Logan and Dawid beating Liam.
In the semi finals Colin cruised past Ryan despite loosing against Gaveglia in the Kettering league tournament.
Dawid battled it out against Alex but just scraped by and beat Cochrane 3-1
Alex and Ryan played for 3rd and 4th with Gaveglia just sneaking the win past Cochrane 11-9 in the 5th.

Mia played in her first 'big' table tennis tournament today, representing her school in the girls under 11 National Schools Tournament in Wolverhampton.

There were six players in her group, including the number 2 seed (ranked at number 3 on the national ranking list). Mia won three and lost two of her matches to finish in a 3-way tie for the runner-up position in the group, behind the seeded player. So the group went to count back to see who qualified through to the ko stages as r-up but this didn't go in Mia's favour and she ended up in third place in the group.

A great first tournament nonetheless for Mia as she continues her development in the sport.
