The Contura 810 is more compact than some upright cylindrical stoves, and its contemporary design adds a touch of elegance, without being too imposing. Can you imagine how lovely it will be on a windy winters day to have the stove lit whilst looking out at that view...no TV required!

Are you getting the most out of your wood burning stove? The type of wood you burn matters!

Make sure it has a moisture content below 20% for a cleaner burn and more warmth. Air dried wood can work if it meets this standard, however, if moisture content is higher you won't achieve a clean burn and the fire will be inefficient. Essentially you get more smoke, emissions and less warmth. Moisture content tends to vary, and different species of wood dry at different rates, so it is a good idea to split the wood and test the centre to check.

The moisture content of kiln dried wood is pretty uniform throughout having been through a drying process. It is a bit more expensive but the heat output is greater, so you don't use as much and it offers a cleaner burn which is advantageous too.

Have you considered an electric fire?

Here are just some of the reasons an electric fire might be the right choice for you.

As you don't need to consider a flue or chimney then an electric fire can be installed in any room. Would you like to add extra warmth to your kitchen, snug or maybe a bedroom?

Electric fires are easier to install and don't take too much space. The units themselves don't have too much depth and there is no need for a hearth - perfect for smaller rooms.

Electric fires have lovely flickering flame patterns, realistic logs and the option of many colour effects to add atmosphere. The heating can be set to be managed manually, or on a thermostat so it is really easy to control and efficient too. All this can be done from the comfort of your armchair with a handy remote control - perfect!

On warmer days, the flame effect can be used without the heating option meaning you can add atmosphere making your electric fire a lovely focal point to your room all year round.

Meet the team...

Dan has been at West Country Stoves for 6 years initially joining the business to look after the purchasing of parts and running of the storeroom, however, his position soon grew to include an operational role, co ordinating all of the stove installations.

Since West Country Stoves became part of the Rangemoors group 18 months ago, Dan has taken on a new role as the manager. There have been lots of exciting changes during this time, with the expansion of the showroom to now included range cookers and some spectacular hanging fires.

Dan now oversees all the day to day running of the showroom, stores, on site installations and the West Country Stoves team. Needless to say he is pretty busy!

Why do we use twin wall flue?

It enables us to place a stove in a room where there isn't an existing chimney. The flue system has an insulated twin wall which reduces the external temperature of the flue, enabling it to be positioned nearer to combustible materials such as timber. This means the flue can go through floors/ceilings and roof spaces.

In addition the insulated flue helps to retain the heat in the flue assisting stove efficiency.
