Charity shops have come a long way since we opened our first Dove House Shop on Beverley Road way back in the early 1980's, our customers have evolved and so have our stores.

This Secondhand September we wanted to share some facts why donating and buying secondhand is not only good for your pocket, but also for the planet.

♻️ Extending the life of clothing by an extra nine months could reduce carbon, waste and water footprints by around 20–30% each.

♻️By boosting re-use and recycling, charity retail helps to reduce waste that ends up in landfill.

♻️Donating and buying from Dove House creates vital funds for us to provide Hospice Care to your local community

Our Gipsyville shop currently has some volunteering opportunities available!

Pictured are Marie and Hannah, Manager and Assistant Manager of the shop. They would be delighted to hear from anyone who is interested in volunteering and would like to know more.

There are a range of shifts available across various days, so we can work together to find a time that suits you.

There are lots of different volunteering roles available across the shop floor and back of house too.

Volunteering can benefit you in so many ways, you can gain skills, make new friendships and feel proud to be supporting your local hospice.

Since opening on 20th July, The Market has surpassed all expectations, achieving remarkable sales figures and receiving overwhelming support from the local community.

The local community's generosity has been a key factor in The Market's success. Many residents have chosen to donate high-quality items, opting to support the hospice rather than selling their goods online. This has resulted in an impressive array of unique and valuable items available at the store, enhancing the shopping experience for all visitors.

Sarah Cash, Deputy Chief Executive at Dove House says: ”The Market by Dove House is not just another charity shop; it is a vibrant retail destination that champions the principles of re-use, re-purpose, and re-love. Shoppers can explore thoughtfully curated collections of vintage, homewares, preloved fashion, and unique items of furniture, arranged to create an inviting and inspiring environment.”

Every purchase at The Market directly contributes to the compassionate care provided by Dove House Hospice to individuals with life-limiting illnesses in the local community. The revenue generated by The Market and 32 other Dove House shops plays a crucial role in funding the hospice's essential services.

Located at Unit 2, Malmo Road on the Sutton Fields Industrial Estate, The Market offers easy access for both local residents and the workforce in the area. The shop is open every day, with a late night on Mondays, providing ample opportunity for shoppers to discover something special during their lunch breaks or weekend outings.

In addition to shopping, The Market hosts a variety of events, workshops, and pop-ups, a dynamic, community-focused atmosphere. These activities aim to educate visitors on sustainable living, up-cycling, and reducing environmental impact.
