The Women Leadership Catalyst programme is the No.1 women leadership programme in the Humber region, developing female professionals in deeper thinking, and comprising of two CMI Qualifications to obtain.

What an incredible finale to our fabulous Welcome Week program! 🥳

We are pleased to report that the climax of Welcome Week, our Enter the World of Business event, including our Business Hackathon and Passport to Employment, attended by over 180 students and supported by 25 businesses, was a huge success!

Prof Stephen Hardy opened the event and our amazing faculty, including Dr Fiona Walkley, Sophie Johnson-Read, and Fannie Yeung, PhD who was instrumental in the organisation of this event.

TED Talks were delivered by Kevin Pimbblet on , Robert Lewis on , Harriet Thiery on providing expert insight into the importance of each theme.

In the Business Hackathon, students worked directly with business representatives on real business issues to compete for the best solution.
Then pitched to the judging panel that included business representatives and Ehsan Khavandkar and Dr Savita Verma.

After our pizza lunch party there was a special performance from the Hull University Dance Squad. The networking event exclusively for business representatives over lunch was a fantastic opportunity to get together and discuss the current business climate and share ideas.

The afternoon saw a “Passport to Employment” session where students could speak directly to all the business stalls

Almost 30 students received employability boosting rewards, such as CV reviews, work experience and mentorship opportunities.

Day 4 of Welcome Week! 🎉

Our Good Morning HUBS session this morning focussed on Generative AI and the effects it is having on the business environment. Our expert guest Sue Turner delivered a brilliant about how AI is ever changing the world business as we know it and the effects it has on all of our lives. 🤖

Next, we had a mature student networking event hosted by Ryan Handley to introduce mature students to our Hull community about building and developing relationships at university. 🤝

Then, we had an event to celebrate the success of our placement year students who have returned from placement this year to congratulate them for all their hard work. We had some excellent conversations with the placement students about their experiences; it was great to hear that our students all did so well. 💼

Finally, Claire Carr and Fiona Walkley delivered sessions about Bad Habits and Stepping Up at university. 💪

Day 3 of Welcome Weel! 🎉

This morning’s “Good Morning HUBS” session, “Innovation: Empowering Future Business” offered expert insight into the challenges of innovation, how they can be overcome, and the importance of continued innovation in the business climate. 👍

Hosted by expert Dr Phininder Balaghan, Innovation and Engagement Lead at Naimuri and Global AI Capability Lead at QuinteQ, our fantastic and thorough interviewees, Antonio Malfense Fierro and Cathrine Ives gave some interesting insight into the importance of innovation across multiple industries. 🧑‍🏫

This afternoon, we had our brilliant post-grad event “Share your Culture and Make Friends” with our panel guests giving advice on well-being, accommodation, sports, opportunities student employment, careers and more! This was followed by refreshments and a dance off with a playlist of cultural music. 🎶🕺

The events hosted for day 2 of Welcome Week for the Business School were so insightful! 👀

This morning, we had the first of our three Good Morning HUBS☀️ sessions, ”Sustainable Business: Forging a Brighter Future”. Our special guests Diviya Thevarajah, James Norrison and Savita Verma discussed sustainability challenges and solutions for multiple sectors, providing expert insight into their fields. Our business students were also treated to an interesting news reading from fourth year logistics and supply chain student Tom Bews, regarding COP28, the Russia and Ukraine conflict, and sustainable fashion solutions.

Then, our students attended a technological induction to introduce new students to our systems, delivered by Kerry Dobson and Allison Price-Noir, followed by a “Know your degree” session hosted by programme directors. 🧑‍🏫

Finally, we had an exciting, informative, and interactive event aptly named “ChatGPT: Unleash the Bot”. This event was designed to empower students with the latest insights into the world of AI and automation, and it certainly did just that! 🤖

Hull University Business School is hosting the next in a series of professional marketing events in collaboration with the HEY Marketing Network. Hear from Mike Shields, an experienced, PR, comms and content specialist and Head of Digital PR at Lincoln-based eCommerce Growth Agency, eComOne.

Mike's presentation will show that everyone has the ability to engage with Digital PR. Mike will set out what is considered Digital PR, how to get started and will also provide tips on how to start, alongside providing real case studies. Expect to be equipped to take on new Digital PR initiatives which will build your brand’s reputation online.

Mike has more than a decade of experience in PR and communications as well as a past in regional journalism. He oversees content, Digital PR and more at eComOne for a variety of clients in the finance, home trends, outdoor and niche product spaces.
