Sweet by Name - handmade jewellery
I design/create handmade affordable jewellery/gifts in Yorkshire, including sterling silver/seaglass.
Handmade silver jewellery. New collection inspired by the determination, hard work and passion of
Has anyone else been so inspired by the determination, strength and passion shown at the Olympics this year?
I really wanted to make a small collection based on the symbol of unity.
I have so much respect and admiration for those athletes that made it to Paris through their hard work and commitment. What an achievement.
This olympics inspired collection is to remind ourselves that if we work hard towards a goal, overcoming challenges as we go, we will make improvements and become champions in our own field. Go for it!
These are handmade by me in sterling silver (on my own little determined journey to improvement) and will be added to my website very soon, but in the meantime message me to order.
I am also working on a ring design so watch this space.
I love the scorch marks that heating silver leaves behind. The ‘Turin shroud’ of silversmithing! 🤭
Happy international cat day 🐈 🐈⬛ Hope you are having a puurrrfect day. 😄
(Edit: I think the bird may actually be a fly! 🤣🤭)
I’d love to say that I’d framed this bird in the shot perfectly but it sneaked in!
What a perfect wedding anniversary day out - seaglass hunting, fish and chips on the beach, flask of Yorkshire tea, food festival, sunshine, sea air and my favourite person. 🩵
On holiday with black beaches and seaglass finds being very unlikely, I still managed to find pretty-coloured, tiny pebbles. 🧡💚🩵
I also had to buy a couple of pieces of local jewellery in traditional colours and pumice-stone beads as mementos …..obviously! 🤭
I really enjoyed the challenge of this one- a commission to make a cross and a bail which would fit onto the client’s own chunky silver chain. I also chamfered the sides of the otherwise flat cross to match the shape of the chain.
Sun’s out, ankles out! ☀️ That’s the saying isn’t it? Well it should be.
Just send me your approximate ankle size (see, you don’t even need to lose weight on your ankles!) and colour ideas and leave it to me. Price guide £14.
I’ve had a break from posting and making reels on here for a while.
I know that it does generate sales but it also gets in the way of the creative process as I’m constantly having to stop to take photos and do videos as I work rather than enjoying and getting lost in the designing and making.
I have been busy at my workbench though, working on some VERY special commissions (which I will be able to share with you at the end of August).
In the meantime, here is a silver Welsh dragon pendant which I made for a Welsh lady. The problem was that the Welsh lady has Welsh friend and then they wanted one! 😁

After starting off with my usual small torch, I realised that I had to bring out the big guns today for heating and soldering a particularly thick piece of silver. The problem with the big ones is that if you accidentally shake them as you work they turn into ACTUAL flame-throwers! 🔥
When you tidy your studio bench to make some jewellery and find a mystery brown envelope with your name on it hidden under the mess. Totally made my day. 🩵 🩵🩵
A sunny day in the studio today wearing my silver sea glass necklace AND, more importantly, the best shirt in the world for me and what I do. 🐚🏖️🌊💍💎
These are from my *new* sterling silver oak leaf collection, handmade from recycled silver, which stack beautifully with other bangles and bracelets or complement other pieces in the collection.
Message via DM or Contact page on website to order.
What does an oak leaf symbolise for you?
New life? A love of nature? Strength? The passing of time? Growth? Resilience? Unfurling of new plans? I think for me it reminds me to stop, take a breath in nature and appreciate life.
🍂🍂🍂 NEW ‘OAK LEAF’ COLLECTION 🍂🍂🍂
The inspiration behind this collection is my lovely friend Julie Louise who is beginning an exciting new career path with Nature Makers - Worthing, Horsham & Billingshurst helping families to connect with nature and appreciate our precious planet. Her daughter Abbie Caidan wanted to commission a piece of jewellery to celebrate this and together we decided that, as the mighty oak represents strength, resilience and potential growth, a pair of handmade, recycled silver oak leaf earrings was just perfect.
The collection grew from there with the addition of a smaller copper oak leaf, which together symbolise care and protection.
🍂I hope that you like it too. I’d love to hear your feedback. 🍂
The collection is now live on my website (link in bio) where you can find further details about each piece.
When your biscuit matches your new collection… 🍂
Or maybe it was inspired by a biscuit? Actually, it was inspired by a good friend of mine. Watch my social media for the launch coming soon.
(Of course I dunked my biscuit. I’m a Yorkshire lass). 😄
Following the revealing of yesterday’s exciting commission (and thank to everyone who messaged me or left lovely comments), it reminded me just how much I love making jewellery commissions for people’s special occasions.
I have a lovely regular customer who got in touch recently to tell me how, during lockdown, she had sadly lost her wedding ring and she felt that a handmade silver and copper heart ring would be the ‘perfect replacement’. What an honour!
Thank you for trusting me with this Jo. 🤎
She even sent me a photo of the second proposal (25 years after the first) to share with you, which this time wasn’t a down on one knee act but, ‘loving gazes over the breakfast bar.’
I flippin’ love this ❤️
What the heck are these?
As they used to say …’answers on a postcard’, but you can just take a guess in the comments.
This one was a very special commission for four identical silver textured circles for four incredible women who had originally met through their journey of tackling breast cancer. They still meet up years later and are still going strong! 💪🏼
They truly are ‘golden girls’

I had a little time out for my birthday and for some exploring, but don’t worry, I am always looking for inspiration for new jewellery designs. Can you see where I got my latest ideas? I couldn’t wait and had to start sketching them on the train journey home!
Black and white vibes for the ‘Spaghetto collection’ this weekend.
Have a great weekend everyone.
This silver and copper piece is special to me for two reasons- one is the transformation it took from starting as a humble sheet of silver (see the last image) and the second is what it symbolises- carrying a heart within another heart. I always carry a special someone within my heart.
Who do you always carry inside your heart?
A wrap ring is so versatile as,
~ it can be gently adjusted to fit any finger (or thumb) and moved whenever the fancy takes you
~it can be personalised or worn plain and simple (yes, even your unusual name or weird message)
~it can be textured
~it can have a copper embellishment (see previous posts)
~it can be worn by a child or adult ~it can be worn by any gender
~it can be made in sterling silver or aluminium
~it can be worn with any outfit, any mood, any event
~matching bangles, etc available
What’s not to love?
Message me to order yours in whatever form you’d like it to take. The choices are yours to make.
See my website ~link in bio~ for prices and options.
Didn’t get much jewellery made this weekend as I was far too busy cuddling the cutest doggy in the world.
Err…nope! Not glamorous at all!
Broken, dirty nails and minor injuries, despite the very attractive safety equipment is what it’s really all about. 😂
Welcome to the attractive world of a jeweller. How do some jewellers manage to have beautiful hands and stay clean? What’s the secret?
I think that despite being the most fiddly to make, this is my favourite from my new ‘copper heart’ collection. Somehow the earrings are delicate, small, yet chunky at the same time. I’m sure there is probably a word to sum that up but I can’t think of one.
Message me to order (you still have time for Mother’s Day…just).
Details on my website. See bio above.
Bar of chocolate anyone? Bar of gold? Bar of soap? See- all the best things are in a bar (not to mention the obvious 🍻🍷🍾).
Well this is your very own ‘copper heart’ bar necklace from my new collection and is striking on its own, layered with other necklaces or with other pieces from the ‘copper heart’ collection.
All silver jewellery comes nestled in beautiful recycled, eco friendly packaging to keep it in forever. 🤎
Available now (details and prices on my website) - message me to order yours.
