Fox & Medcalfe Pharmacy
Pharmacy in Central Lancaster offering various NHS and private services
You may be aware of technical issues impacting services worldwide.
After a system check this morning, we can confirm all our services are running as normal at the current time. However, there may be a knock-on effect on ourselves should our suppliers or other companies on whom we rely be experiencing issues.
We are aware of the issue impacting Lancaster Medical Practice, and would advise telephoning ahead to check if your prescriptions are ready.
Please note that, due to the overwhelming demand, the NHS Contraception Service is strictly by appointment only until further notice. We ask that patients plan well ahead as we are unable to offer walk-in appointments at the current time.
To book, please telephone 01524 32933 or call in at the branch.
Call into F&M Pharmacy for these conditions: free under the NHS ( includes antibiotics if appropriate)
Save waiting for a GP appointment
Each pharmacy has been underfunded by an average of £100,000 a year, a figure that appears in a House of Commons Committee report
Since 2015, the government's own report acknowledged that funding has decreased in real terms by 30% since 2015.
Our day of action is as close to a strike that community pharmacies can get, without being in breach of our NHS contract and the trust our patients put in us to be there for them, day in, day out.
We hope action will be taken by MPs such as Cat Smith MP at the earliest opportunity to keep pharmacies open and viable

We are observing a national day of protest against the current state of pharmacy funding by blacking out our windows and turning our lights off.
This pharmacy WILL join the hundreds of pharmacies that have done so already in closing down for good, should funding not be significantly improved. That is the reality.
Please call on Cat Smith MP to join the cause. Pharmacies are supposed to be the 'front door' of the NHS, but only attract 1.6% of the NHS's total budget, down from 2.4% a decade before. A new pharmacy funding contact was due to be agreed with the government in March, but has been delayed now until after the election. In the meantime, the contract is not fit for the role pharmacy is expected to play.

One Day to
Thursday 20th June is the Day Of Action - a day where community pharmacies across the country come together to share the grave concerns we have about our future.
Did you know that an average of 10 pharmacies a week closed their doors permanently, every single week between January and April this year? That's 177 pharmacies in just three months, a rate never before seen in the history of the NHS and nothing short of a crisis.
Without urgent and drastic action from the new government, whomever it may be, pharmacies like this one will be a thing of the past. We have previously voiced concerns to Cat Smith MP about the state of neglect community pharmacies have been subject to, and we need you to do the same.

We would like to express our gratitude to ITV for their short documentary shedding a little light on the difficulties pharmacies like ours face on a daily basis, navigating an extremely difficult landscape as part of a hugely strained NHS in England. It offers a good overview of the ways in which the system is dysfunctional at its core and it is good to see small and medium sized pharmacy businesses heavily represented in the coverage.
We hope this is just the beginning of ITV's attempts to draw attention to the dire reality community pharmacies are currently grappling with, and that pharmacy's voice is heard more loudly in opposition to the government's insistence that there is simply no problem to be addressed.
We will continue to serve our customers and our community to the best of our capabilities, and appreciate the support we receive as we do our best to remain sustainable while balancing the needs of our patients, our NHS, our community and our staff.
