We came 3rd!!

Henry our mechanical engineer recently entered a competition for Venta Global 2023 Best Product Application Award and came third.

We had used some RL.90 Series 90mm LED headlights supplied by Venta for one of our U1300L Unimogs we had restored and converted to an expedition vehicle which has made it's way to new owners in USA.

We're excited to announce that we can now offer 43:10 crownwheel & pinion sets to suit the Mercedes 917-1124AF 4x4 trucks.

This ratio is the same as the fastest ratio available from Mercedes Benz.

We believe that this ratio is the most optimum when combined with 385/65R22.5 tyres.

The parts are made to exacting standards in Europe.

Busy day at AV yesterday with Unimogs landing in for work.

1st Unimog - This U1300L arrived after we had agreed with our customer to carry out a vast number of upgrades to his Unimog which include our "superfast" Crownwheel & pinion upgrade, Intercooler kit, Sound deadening kit and rooftop A/C unit to name a few.

2nd Unimog - The white U2150L is here for an assessment and service, following our 150pt check in our workshop we can then report back to the owner with what repairs we have picked up on to decide the scope of work moving forwards.

3rd Unimog - Lastly the U1300L at the back was here from our customer Patrick who has been a rather frequent visitor in the last few months asking us to install various upgrades to his camper, this time around we had fitted one of our AV compact exhaust systems.

WORKSHOP TIME

Super Rod have been a customer of ours for nearly a decade.

They have a fleet of 5 Unimogs which are used on the railways, so it is really important that they are in excellent working order.

We have the honour of seeing each Unimog at least once a year for a full service, check over, MOT and any additional repairs.

We know how important your Unimog is to you and keeping it safe & reliable is a priority. We also know that it is not always easy to carry out some important checks without access to a fully equipped workshop like our facility at Atkinson Vos.

The Atkinson Vos Workshop Inspection

Our workshop inspection, carried out by our highly skilled and experienced workshop team, covers the following high-priority general maintenance areas:

- Road test on multiple surfaces.
- Rim and tyre condition.
- Brake pads, discs and callipers.
- Oils, fluids and coolant levels.
- Wheel bearings and kingpins.
- PTO condition (when fitted).

This is all followed up with a detailed report summarising our findings and, where appropriate, offering recommendations for additional maintenance with an estimate of the price. Peace of mind guaranteed.

We have been made aware from Electricity North West that on Thursday 2nd November they will be carrying out work and will need to switch off our electricity between the hours of 09:00-16:00.

Unfortunately we will be without power for part of the day and whilst we'll be running from a generator there may be times where we're temporarily without phones or internet so please bear with us if you cannot get through.

Normal service should resume on Friday 3rd November and we apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.

Dave came to us with his lovely Land Rover 101 and the idea of fitting some larger rims and tyres so he could do more off road driving. With the aid of cardboard templates Dave was able to chose the right size for the tyres and rims. Once the rims had been refurbished he was keen to get them fitted quickly and we were happy to oblige.

WORKSHOP TIME!!

Our customer Fred had made contact with us recently, he had asked if we could assess and carry out some repairs on his 1990 Mercedes Benz fire truck.

Here is what he had to say:

"Several years ago, when we bought a camper built 1990 Mercedes Benz fire truck, we knew that we would face a challenge finding parts and skilled mechanics for such an old vehicle in the United States. Thus, immediately after arriving in the UK, we trekked north to Yorkshire to visit Atkinson Vos Ltd. Not only did they have the talent, tools and parts we needed, they spoke English (and big truck!).

We began with a thorough inspection and then set up an appointment for the truck to spend a week at the "spa". The projects ranged from the nice-to-have (a working speedometer) to essential, like addressing air and fuel leaks. Many of the tasks were especially labour intensive, but all were performed perfectly. The truck is totally transformed. Many, many thanks"

Busy day here at AV as equipment and vehicles recently sold make their way around the UK to their new owners.

x2 Mulag mowers recently sold to a customer in the South of England were loaded up today ready to be delivered and start their new life.

U900 (406) which had sold last week will be heading to our customer Chris who had agreed to purchase the vehicle for his business and also for nostalgic reasons as his father had owned a 406 many years ago.

Finally the LWB U500 has left the yard, our customer had come to collect this vehicle today ready to start it's life doing tree work & forestry.

DISC BRAKE FAST AXLES

Disc brake axles with 23:9 fast crownwheel & pinion ratio.

To suit 406/416 (U900/1100) models.

U1300L on it's way to our customer in the USA.

Our customer Ben contacted us earlier this year looking for a Unimog to use as transport for back country buildings in the US.

We had discussed various models of Unimogs and eventually landed on a U1300L as a base vehicle for his requirements.

Next on the agenda was to discuss ay upgrades and accessories he may like on the vehicle and Ben decided to go with our 24:11 crownwheel & pinion upgrade, Turbo kit, Intercooler kit, Heavy duty radiator, cab shock absorber kit and for us to do some tweaking with the fuelling.

Ben then decided he would like to go ahead with a repaint of the vehicle, plus fitting an ISRI air seat we had in stock removed from a U430 model Unimog.

This was loaded on to a low loader earlier this week to be delivered to port before setting sail to USA and Ben finally getting to enjoy her.

A German Customer Rene dropped in with us with his U1300L whilst in the UK.

He'd been experiencing some charging issues. We carried out some basic tests while he waited and sent him on his way to catch the ferry.

The Unimog is an Ex-German military ambulance with the OM366A engine and fast axles. The self-built camper box is a permanent home for Rene & his partner.

Dave visited us in this lovely Land Rover 101. He wanted to increase the wheel & tyre size for off roading.

These Land Rovers have the same 6 bolt wheel pattern as the smaller Unimogs.

Dave is going to try out some CAD (Cardboard Aided Design) to determine the best tyre size and he’ll be back for the tyres!

Workshop Time.

Our customer Patrick recently brought his Unimog in for a service, injection pump upgrade and a set of reconditioned injectors.

While the Mog was with us, the list grew and we also replaced the 2 front tyres, relocated the fuse box to make future electrical upgrades easier, fixed a fault with the headlight and fitted an air reel and hose.

Patrick was delighted we were able to get the work done within his timeframe, so he could make the drive down to Southampton the very day he collected the Mog.

Following the work being carried out Patrick has said "I am no longer the slowest lorry on the motorway and it no longer struggles up hill - it stays at a constant speed rather than dropping off as I climb"

We design and build Camper boxes for all kinds of 4x4 trucks and we’re making decent progress on 2 Camper box builds in our workshop at the moment.

The box with the Outbound windows will be fitted to a Mitsubishi Canter 4x4. All our panels are CNC cut including apertures.

We’ve recently added a passthrough from the cab to the camper box and repainted the chassis on this truck. (photo attached)

The smaller box without windows is for a U1300L Unimog which we’re shipping to the USA.
