Quarry Park Disc Golf

We have been busy preparing the course for the 30th Quarry Park Open. Great progress today with the new gazebo. Noah requested a couple of new mando posts, and as luck would have it there was a dead tree I was able to fell this morning. We didn’t get round to finishing the new podium, but that’s not essential until Sunday. With Andrew Malcolm and Luisa Bartolome supplementing the regular workforce of Ali and Aubrey we got lots done. One more day of prep and the course should be in really great shape.

Today at the course: Ali cleared the pruning from yesterday on the donut hole. I did some pruning on hole 1 and Helen’s Myre. We then did some pruning on 11 to raise the ceiling, then Ali carried on clearing the pond. After lunch we dug holes to put in concrete pads for the gazebo. Finally this evening, in consultation with Noah Smithson we extended the hazard on the donut hole to see how that plays. Then I finished off by doing some mowing. In between times we served customers and restocked the drinks. That was a day in the beautiful green office of Quarry Park.

New shipment from Latitude 64 is on the shelves. Finally I have lots of Rivers and Saints as well as lots of other lovely plastic on the shelves.
Meanwhile we had to pause work on the next platform tee for hole 8 due to (you guessed it) more flooding.

The rescheduled Winter Open 1 will take place on 24th March. The main course will be reserved for the event, and possibly the short course also.

Noah Smithson putting on hole 17. He recorded a 1064 rated round in the February Warmup tournament on Sunday. I think that’s the highest rated tournament round by a UK player.
Please note that the Winter Open takes place on February 18th and the course will not be open for public play on that day. Two weeks later on 3rd March is Winter Open 2 and again the course will be closed for public, although limited spaces are kept open for QP annual members to play the main course

There is now a Quarry Park Disc Golf Club which is a standalone association separate from the annual subscription to play the course. The club organises league rounds and tournaments and is looking to get involved in outreach and coaching etc. as well as social activities to bring people together. The website is under development and currently has just the form to join the league

The long course holes by the river are currently flooded. The river level may subside a bit by Sunday but my guess is that it will still be flooded. The short course is not affected other than it being a bit muddy on ghe final hole and as you head into the new field.

The course will be open on Monday 20th, but I didn’t change the booking system to enable bookings (we don’t usually open on Monday in winter) You can pay at the course - the shop might not be staffed but thrte will be details for Paypal or bank transfer, or a number to call for assistance, or there’s an honesty box for cash.

The long course is flooded by the river, so holes 7 to 12 are closed. If you want to play the long course you can repeat some holes or add in holes from the short course.
Please bear in mind that the ground is easily damaged by playing when it is saturated, so please keep off those areas to preserve them for future rounds. Floods normally clear after 2 or 3 days without appreciable rain.

More than 400 discs added to stock! We are approaching the time to start glow rounds, probably on Tuesday evenings. With that in mind I’ve stocked up on some lovely glow discs. We have a few DX glow Wraiths, TLs and Valkyries in addition to the models in the picture

The 28th Quarry Park Open takes place on 20-21st August. The long course is reserved for tournament play on both days. The short course is open to the public on Saturday, but reserved for tournament play on Sunday.

Local Noah Smithson improved with each round to finish tied for 46th and in the prize money.

The course is open from 1pm on weekdays for half term this week. The short course is all playable, but the long course has flooding near the river, so holes 7 to 12 are out of action for the moment. If we don’t have much rain in the next few days I would expect holes 7 to 9 to be ok by the end of the week. Holes 10 to 12 will remain closed until the ground dries out more fully, so please don’t play the holes in the woods for the time being. During the Christmas break, the plan is to open from 12 on weekdays in addition to the usual 10:00 opening on Saturdays and Sundays, except Christmas Day. After 3rd January, it will be weekend opening only until the Easter break, except possibly the half term week.

It's all change this weekend. The QP Masters tournament takes place on 25/26th September, and hence the long course is reserved for tournament play only. At the same time we are closing the old short course and moving baskets to the new short course, which will be open for play this weekend and beyond.
The new short course was a big investment and with the increasing popularity of disc golf it will help accommodate more players with less congestion, but it does mean that prices have been increased to allow for VAT.
