Latest update for you all...

As many of you will be aware the Prime Minister recently made the following announcement: "Indoor performances with socially distanced audiences will be able to take place across the country from 1 August."
This guidance sets out how performing arts organisations can prepare for and deliver their activities at each of the five stages outlined by the Culture Secretary, but notes that "where a premises or venue delivers a mix of services, only those services that are permitted to be open should be available".

For The Nomads, the following statements are key:

* Professionals working in the performing arts are permitted to return to their activities in line with this guidance.

* Non-professionals (meaning those participating in performing arts other than for work purposes), or groups which include non-professionals may refer to this guidance for their activities, but must at all times do so in line with government legislation and guidance on meeting people outside your household.(https://www.gov.uk/guidance/meeting-people-from-outside-your-household-from-4-july)

This means that we should not currently engage in singing (research is ongoing), and for acting rehearsals - only four people from two households can rehearse indoors, or only six people can rehearse and perform outdoors.

As members of NODA South East and The Little Theatre Guild, we are encouraged by the campaigns these organisations have launched to request further clarification on the guidance from the government. For now, we will continue to hold virtual play readings, to begin virtual rehearsals where needed and we will hold the AGM online (if guidance on gatherings does not change before September).

In many ways, we are lucky to be in a position where the cost of opening will not be prohibitive, so we have every confidence in the continuation of The Nomad Theatre and all our groups.

We can’t wait to welcome everyone back, as soon as it’s safe to do so.
