Had an absolute blast working on this HM Strat!

Made in 1988 in the USA, it’s go so many cool details.

Originally hot pink (judging by the neck pocket, it was refinished and lacquered at some point).

It was wired poorly and incorrectly, so I rewired it with the ON-ON switch as a kill switch.

I gave it a fret level and crown to make the scratchy, pitted frets smooth and playable again.

The Spyder bridge has both “Kahler” and “Floyd Rose LLC” branding on it! The knife edges are on the posts themselves, not on the bridge system, which I’ve never seen before. The original springs were dead and stiff so we replaced them with high tension ones - this floating tremolo system is one of the most stable I’ve worked on!

We moved it back to standard tuning using a 10-46 set, but not before levelling and crowning the pitted frets. The pickups were also rattling in their harnesses, so I secured these with pieces of foam: whisper quiet!

WOOHOO! So, month one of self employment complete, and this is how I feel!

Going self employed has been the best decision I’ve ever made. I’ve no doubt there’ll be bumps in the road, and I’ve taken a massive pay-cut, but the trade off in terms of self-fulfilment & happiness is priceless. Plus, I’ve proven to myself that I can pay the bills by making my clients + their guitars play better!

To every single client who trusted me to work on their beloved instrument, to every one who has reached out for guitar tutoring and coaching, and to the wonderful staff and students at , I say a huge THANK YOU!

This is just the beginning: I can’t wait to keep pushing this forwards into next year, and take on the road as a touring tech (or session player / dep, if you’ll have me!) Until then, keep bringing me your instruments and keep booking in lessons 🎸
