I’ve been workshopping a version of Slash‘s iconic solo from Sweet Child O’ Mine for one of my students at The Marshall's School of Music, so I broke in this freshly set up Gibson Guitars 2022 Antique Natural Flying V with it! What I love about Slash‘s playing is that it’s expressive, tender, fiery, nuanced and controlled all at once! I also love the mix harmonic minor, natural minor and pentatonic flavours on this solo in particular. ESP E-II M-I Thru NT in Black Satin. Setup in A standard (ADGCEA) - the 25.5” scale length meant that this low tuning without a seriously heavy gauge wasn’t going to cut it, so we opted for some @ernieball Baritone Slinkies! I always end up writing something when I sit down to practice - I believe this is because I’m not TRYING to write, and whatever needs to come out comes out! Rather than trying to write and getting frustrated, just sit down with your guitar and give yourself space to practice and mess around - who knows what will happen!
