Leeds CPD Event Recap: Highlights and Key Insights
Joe delivered an engaging session on Psi Values and the Future Homes Standard. If you missed Joe's session or need a refresher, drop us a message to re-listen to this section!
Key Points from Joe's Psi Values Discussion:
➡️Proving Compliance with Psi Values: Joe explained the critical role of accurately calculated Psi Values in proving compliance with building standards.
➡️New Building Regulations: With the new building regulations, it is now unlikely to pass using default values anymore. Joe emphasised the importance and effectiveness of having Psi Values calculated, specifically for your build.
➡️Benefits of Calculating Psi Values: As Joe said, "If you come to us and we can get those calculated, you are going to be saving yourself essentially time and money by not having to over insulate a wall or insulate a roof just because of how much better the Psi Value could be."
➡️Calculation Process: To calculate the Psi Value, we create a 2D/3D model of the junction and then insert the thermal conductivity each of the fabric conductivities. The software then calculates the Psi and fRsi Value, a process similar to calculating a U-value, which more people are familiar with.
Thank you again to everyone who attended and contributed to making this event a success! Keep an eye out for more key highlights from our event, which are crucial following the new building regulation changes across the construction industry.

Introducing our New Service: Whole Life Carbon Assessments🍃
A whole life carbon assessment is the most comprehensive way to measure a building’s total embodied carbon and environmental impact.
To calculate the final results of your whole life carbon assessment, we’ll add up the emissions from all of the life-cycle stages to get the total impacts for your project. This is typically referenced in kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalents (kgCO2e), and the results of our WLC assessment can help us to identify emissions hotspots and find ways to reduce impacts/equivalent CO2 emissions, at all stages of a project.
If you have a project with a requirement for this service, give the team a call on 0113 258 8445📞

The government has revealed the much-anticipated consultation on the Future Homes and Buildings Standard, outlining strategies to reduce carbon emissions in new constructions. The Future Homes Standard, set for implementation in England by 2025, is crucial for the government's commitment to improving energy efficiency in residential and non-domestic structures. Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland can adopt these standards as they see fit.
The Future Homes Standard mandates a substantial 75-80% reduction in carbon emissions for newly built homes in 2025 compared to those in 2013. New homes in 2025 must be 'zero carbon ready,' eliminating retrofitting and transitioning from fossil fuel heating to low carbon methods.
Released on December 13, 2023, the consultation outlines the technical standards for meeting these criteria by 2025. Concurrently, the government seeks input on the Home Energy Model (HEM), a new calculation methodology replacing the Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) in 2025. HEM, releasing alongside the Future Homes Standard, aims to demonstrate compliance and generate Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs).

Navigating BREEAM Pre-Assessments🌎
Before embarking on a construction project, many developers opt for BREEAM pre-assessments to gauge their building's potential environmental performance.
A BREEAM pre-assessment is an initial evaluation conducted before the formal assessment process begins. This proactive step allows project teams to identify potential sustainability opportunities and challenges early in the planning stages. It acts as a roadmap for integrating sustainable features into the design, construction, and operation of a building.
If you require a pre-assessment or wish to consult with one of our assessors, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. Feel free to give us a call, and our team will be more than happy to assist you on your journey towards sustainable building excellence.
Earlier this week, Richard was in Clitheroe performing two air tests for two holiday rental properties. He even had a lovely encounter with some sheep afterward!🐑
During a recent visit to a residential dwelling in Harrogate, our engineers performed a sound insulation test to evaluate the building's acoustic properties.
