Shocking admission by Lafarge’s parent company, Switzerland’s Holcim, that has issued a statement saying that Lafarge had pled guilty to one count of “conspiring to provide material support to designated foreign terrorist organisations”, brought before the US Courts, after which Lafarge Cement Syria (LCS) stopped operating.
Lafarge had paid Isis to allow them to carry on trading while expecting the terrorist group to prevent other cement manufacturers operating in Syria.

Two Former Directors both received a 14-month sentence, suspended for two years, and was ordered to carry out 120 hours of unpaid community work within 12 months. Both were suspended as a director for 10 years and both ordered to pay costs of £44,774.21.
Hopefully, this latest case and convictions may act as a heads-up to Developers in the Group, especially those involved now or in the future with Commercial to Resi Projects.

Steel prices continue to rocket as British Steel, who had early stopped taking new orders, have now annouinced to they have now recommenced taking orders, BUT at an extra £100/ tonne!!
This is the second hike this month alone. With some steel prices are now approaching £1.000/tonne.
Specialist Contractors without means of passing on the cost hikes to their Customers are being badly hit by these price hikes.

The UK’s first hydrogen-powered homes provide a glimpse into our greener future.
The pair of semi-detached houses will be fitted out with hydrogen-fuelled household appliances including boilers, hobs, cookers and fires that release no carbon emissions into the atmosphere.
The houses are funded by the help of the UK government’s Hy4Heat Innovation programme and are expected to be completed this Spring.
The Government hopes that the homes, fuelled entirely by hydrogen, will demonstrate how the most abundant element in the universe could help the UK meet its commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, thereby contributing to the global effort to stop climate change and global warming.

Leeds City Council announce ambitious £100m investment plans in new technology, that reaffirms this council’s commitment to tackling the climate emergency, over the next five years.
Local Green Energy Contractors are to be used to install Ground and Air Source heat pumps; district heating networks; external wall insulation; and solar panels to reduce the UK’s 3rd City carbon omissions. Currently almost 25% of which comes from the energy used to heat homes.
What makes the investment even more commendable is this announcement comes aafter Leeds City Council have been forced to make another £115m worth of cuts to their budget by Central Government.

Fundamental issues for fixed price contracts have been highlighted by bad news of building material delays and significant price hikes continue for the Construction Industry. This is unwelcome news as the Industry fights for a sustained recovery from the impact of COVID-19.
Demands for building materials remain high and are forcast to only increase during the 2021.
As previously reported Steel price have risen 40% in recent months and timber prices have now risen by 20%.
Supply issues of roofing materials to the Building Merchants are reported to have alreay effecting supplies to sites and impacted on production outputs.
