Chris has been working in the energy industry for 15 years, working in management and sales. Chris joined Omni Energy in June 2020, bringing along his extensive knowledge and expertise. Chris focuses on a number of different customer focused areas of the business. Chris' main focus is sales and marketing, working with energy switching partners trying to encourage more prepayment customers to switch to Omni Energy. Chris is also an excellent trainer and gives all the new staff the best insight into Omni and the energy industry.

Power Cut?⚡️

Contact your local network operator by dialing 105.

If the power cut is not believed to be network related and you are off supply, this is mostly likely because:

-You have no credit on you electric prepayment meter
-You have used all of your emergency credit
-If the power cuts out shortly after 9am you could have been using friendly credit.

To get back on supply you can look at screen B on your electricity meter, this will show you the top-up amount needed to get back on supply.

As the days will start to get warmer, (we hope!) and the heating being used less or not at all. You will use less gas, meaning you could forget to top up your meter.

Do not forget to regularly top up or top up enough to cover your daily standing charge for the summer months.

Winter will soon be here again and we do not want you to have issues with your meter or incurring a daily standing charge debt on your meter.

Embrace the outdoors 🌳☀️

The summer months are a great time to enjoy being outdoors. Spending most of your time outdoors in the summer months will help you save on your energy use by using fewer appliances and lighting. This means that your credit will last you a little bit longer.

Replace watching TV inside with the lights on by going outside and exploring, if that be in your own garden or a local park. With the nights being warmer and lighter, you can enjoy those evening barbeques, which will save energy by not using your oven.

Emergency Credit💸

Emergency credit is a function on a prepayment meter, which you can use when you are running low on credit and cannot top-up for a short period of time. At Omni Energy, we offer £5 per fuel.

Do not forget, when you top up after activating emergency credit, the emergency credit that you use will be deducted. So always make sure you top up enough to cover the debt and to have remaining credit.

Smell gas? Follow these steps 👣

First of all, contact the National Gas Service Emergency Line on 0800 111 999 to report a suspected gas leak.

In the meantime:

Open your doors and windows so the gas can escape.

Don’t smoke or use a lighter or matches.

Do not turn light switches or anything electrical on or off, including mobile phones.

If you can, turn off your gas supply at the meter and leave it switched off until you’re sure it is safe to turn it back on.

Scott has been in the energy industry for four years, specialising in metering. Scott joined Omni Energy in May 2021 as a customer operations advisor. Bringing along his knowledge in metering, Scott's main task is to ensure that our customer metering details are correct and checking all invoices. This keeps our costs down, meaning we can offer our customers a fair tariff, always remaining below the price cap.

Have remaining credit on your meter when switching?💸

Any existing credit on your meter will not be wiped when switching to us. When you activate your new electricity key/gas card in your meter, your credit will still be there. We do not wipe existing credit

Fridge habits to save you energy⚡️

Clean the fridge every now and then so that the coils are clean and working efficiently.

Keeping your fridge full actually means that your fridge does not have to work so hard to chill warm products.

Don't leave your fridge / freezer door open. The longer it’s open, the more energy it takes to get it back to its correct temperature.

Never put hot or warm food into a fridge or freezer; let it cool down thoroughly first.

On an Omni Energy prepayment electricity meter, you will have friendly credit. Friendly credit automatically kicks in when you run out of credit between the hours of 5pm and 9am the next working day. This is to make sure that your supply stays on overnight/the weekend while our offices are closed, in the case of you having any problems topping up.

*When topping up after using friendly credit, the credit you have used in friendly credit mode will be taken from your top-up. (Always check screen B to see how much you need to top-up in order to cover the friendly credit).
If you run out of credit before 5pm, friendly credit will not activate.

Naturally dry your hair to save money🙆‍♀️🙆‍♂️💸

If you want to save energy, money and your hair, put the hair dryer away and naturally dry your hair when you can.

Hair dryers consume a lot of electricity and drying your hair naturally is better for it.

If you dry your hair for 10 minutes everyday for a year, on average, by putting the hair dryer away, you could save £30 a year on electricity.

Lighting choices to save you money💡💸

Install energy efficiency light bulbs. Light emitting diode (LED) bulbs are the most efficient option.

Dimmers save electricity when used to lower light levels.

Dust your bulbs regularly to brighten the room.

Turn the lights off.

Top tips for energy-efficient washing 🧦♻️✨

Cut down on the number of washes you do by filling your washing machine up each time. You can also choose a shorter cycle time. This will save you £5 on your annual energy bill plus a further £7 on your metered water bill.

Another way of saving energy is by washing your clothes at 30ºC. (Include occasional hot washes if you mainly do low temperature ones. This will get rid of bacteria and prevent the build up of odours in your machine).

Soak heavily soiled items before washing, and rub collars or other stains with household soap.

Where possible, use a high spin speed so clothes come out of the washing machine almost dry, with little need for tumble drying.

Use your tumble drier sparingly. Instead of using your dryer, Line-dry your clothes, especially in the summer, this will pocket you £30 a year.

Use the retained heat in your tumble drier. If you have a lot of clothes to tumble dry, consider dividing them into more than one load. The tumble drier will retain heat after each load so it will use less energy during the second and subsequent loads.

Clean your tumble drier filter. Do this regularly as it helps your dryer operate at its most efficient.

Use Eco balls in your tumble drier. These create gaps between your clothes, allowing the heat to move freely around and dry your clothes more quickly.
