Had a lovely review drop in this morning, after attending a customer last week to carry out a potential bedbug infestation in Leeds centre, which was creating a lot of stress. Reading such positive words is always very rewarding and it's what we always strive to achieve at Ibbotson's Pest Management.

The detailed inspection revealed no evidence of bedbug activity and bites were being caused from seasonal midge/mosquito type flies, heightened by recent wet and warm weather.

Well an interesting wasps' nest callout yesterday in Guiseley round the back of a lovely row of cottages.

Wasps' had decided to set up nest in a unhabited birds' nest box, right next to the garden seating area and shed. Ingenious location considering the cracking supply of wood for their nest building.

The wasps' had progressed well and grown out of the nest and with new pupae emerging into adults this week, the customer experienced a wasp sting whilst enjoying the garden seating area.

Job attended yesterday, area assessed, nest treated and a return this morning confirmed control was successful and the nest and defunct bird nest box was removed for disposal.

Great job and the customers' can now sit out and relax in their lovely outdoor space.

Fleas', a real parasitic nuisance pest that don't just plague your lovely pets, but can rapidly infest your lovely home too and can be quite traumatic.

Advise; a reminder to keep your pets flea treatment to schedule and regularly hot wash their bedding coupled with thorough vacuuming of your houses.

As we are approaching the warmer months of the year (not going on this weeks temperatures :) ), the flea life cycle becomes much quicker and low level numbers can quickly increase.

Good morning,

Hope everyone is well.

Well had a cracking survey in LS29, it's a classic "got a rat in my kitchen", although not so humorous when the property is a business and rat activity is putting this at risk.

The one sighting was a lot more sinister than initially reported, this was an established infestation with the smell of rat latrines evident to ground floor areas, numbers of rats heard scratching and moving in voids to confirm this is not a casual intruder.

Several ingress routes observed to outer areas, although suspecting this property has a subsurface ingress concern and the outer louvre cover has been chewed from within.

Rat faeces noted under kitchen units, smear marks observed on cables and pipes, chewed extraction pipe seen in the subfloor cavity were interesting evidence finds.

Intensive rat activity riddance programme started to the property, a clean of the cistern void of contaminated insulation, proofing works and a CCTV drainage survey advised.

This is a really good example of how rats can be so damaging within a property and to a business and the importance of proofing maintenance 🪛 and pest professional services including routine inspections of properties.

Received a lovely present from a wonderful couple in Rawdon yesterday after concluding their internal rat activity riddance programme.

Always great to help people in a difficult, stressful time and leave knowing the customers' are extremely pleased with their service. :)

A lovely rats' latrine, nesting materials and general rat activity related detritus clearance and clean carried out recently from a kitchen.

Prolonged activity from a hidden ingress point found under the kitchen sink unit allowed rats to access the base of the units with the smell been quite horrible.

Detailed removal of nesting materials, droppings, gravel and a few carcasses, finished off with a biocide spray freshened this area up.

Ingress point inspected with the CCTV camera and sealed.

As grotty and unglamorous this may appear, there's nothing better than making an area clean and safe for a customer and really getting stuck in.

Waste removed and taken to the local trade waste transfer station.

Good morning,

I had a rat activity survey request land yesterday over in Rawdon within a beautiful cottage.

The client was devastated and had recent work carried out and was left really dissatisfied with poor service overall and a hefty set of payments made.

A rat infestation within the kitchen which was really quite terrible, the smell of the latrines was noticeable as soon as entering the property to the rear.

Inspection revealed an established rat infestation with a cracking rats' nest located under the oven in the dead space, bad smear marks on panelling and rat droppings under units from both juvenile to adult rats. The smell and visible evidence seen suggested this had been going on a period of time, which is not pleasant or healthy.

No ground level ingress routes noted on the external inspection, however the soil pipe was located to the rear elevation of the property, exactly where the kitchen wall is, so highly likely there is a drainage concern sub surface, which is allowing rats access to the foundations, up and into the kitchen.

-Rat activity riddance programme started
-Drainage CCTV investigation advised and booked
-Rat latrine and nesting site clean/disinfect work to be carried out post riddance work

The client is already at ease after a thorough investigation of the property and recommendations raised.

Good morning all,

Had an interesting commercial callout request yesterday down in Guiseley for a report of rat droppings behind/under a pallet in a storage warehouse, with a concerned client thinking they had an internal rat infestation.

Inspection of the area revealed the suspected rat droppings were not rat droppings, but spent Bluebottle fly pupal casings (from a distance you can see why the client was concerned a rat/rats were potentially within the area).

Next on the inspection was to find out what had been rotting close to this area and a shine of the torch quickly revealed some tail feathers under the pallet and a decomposed Wood pigeon carcass. Root cause to the problem found, carcass removed, pupal cases removed and area disinfected.

Client very happy there wasn't a rat infestation and area left clean and safe for their staff to work in and business products to be safely stored.

Good morning all,

Well another field mice survey and riddance programme started over in Baildon recently and again the external proofing inspection revealed a plethora of mice ingress route concerns.

Riddance programme started and a proofing job carried out to seal up outer points to the detached property. This should prevent further mice infestations within the property.

The outside inspection and carrying out proofing works is the key to preventing further issues.

More external proofing concerns revealed this week with a new customer reporting low level internal mice activity at a very tidy and well kept property in Yeadon.

After surveying the internal areas of the property, the most important part was getting outside, gloves and torch at the ready.

This wasn't a big property, however the rear of the house revealed a nice find indeed, an old boiler cupboard where the old boiler had been removed just over a year ago. A nice 2" gap to the base of the cupboard door leading off the decked area, with holes in the brickwork where the old water pipes run into the wall cavity and throughout the property. Root cause to the internal mice activity revealed.

Mice riddance programme started and proofing works to be carried out to the cupboard, should prevent a further infestation and reduce the risk of unwanted property damage also.

Well a cracking find and removal of a large adult rat this evening from an extension ceiling void on the first visit, one week in from initial survey and job start.

Was a large bu**er, managed to pull down through the spot light hole and get it out. Head first and straight down after 10 minutes of trying to move it round from its rear end (the joys!!).

A good find and removal for the customer.

If left, this would have been a major stinker for the festive season. :)
