parkrun Leeds

Leeds parkrun - For weekly, 5km, timed, free running! parkruns are friendly events organised by our fantastic local volunteers.

The run is open to all ages and abilities, it is a fun and exciting way to get fit and enjoy the park. Following the run we go for breakfast and a good old natter to Opposite Cafe, where everyone is welcome to join us.

34 of 34 - THE NEXT GENERATION - We're in our eight year of parkrunning on Woodhouse Mooor and we hope this is just the beginning. With many more years to look forward to we want to close this photo-history-series by celebrating the babies born to our parkrunners. The little bundles of joy in the collage below are Fraser, Henry, Isabella & Charles, Liam, Sam, Angus, Aston, Rosie, Jessica, Charlie, Louis, Luca, Athan, Poppy and Isla. (We're sure there must be many more too and if we've missed your parkrun baby please add them into the comments on our Woodhouse Moor page.) Every one of them is a blessing and we look forward to passing the baton on to them a few years down the line.

33 of 34 - OUR ELITE RUNNERS - If our parkrun was a country we'd be able to put a decent team into any Olympics, World Championships or Commonwealth Games. Many international class athletes have run with us over the years. The montage below shows just a few of them. How many can you name?

Ahead of our old page closing this Saturday we're posting a picture a day to celebrate some highlights of parkrunning on Woodhouse Moor.

32 of 34 - THE BUNNY RUN - We've done lots to support charities through the years. Santa Dashes, Sports Relief, Cake Sales and, er, cake sales and cake sales and cake sales - we like cake! One event that sticks in the memory particularly fondly for many was our Bunny Run on 10 April 2010 in support of St Gemma's Hospice. Were you there?

31 of 34 - CLUB VESTS - During our seven and a bit years of parkrunning on Woodhouse Moor we've been fortunate to have great support from our local running clubs. Hyde Park Harriers, Valley Striders, Horsforth Harriers, Abbey Runners, Kirkstall Harriers, Pudsey Pacers and Leeds & Bradford Tri Club have all recorded over 1,000 parkruns apiece on Woodhouse Moor (other excellent running clubs are available) and HPH alone will soon break through the 10,000 barrier! If you want to take your running to the next level then join a club, don a club vest, and roar your love of running just like today's cover model, Ben Forwood.

It's Valentine's Day on Saturday, so who's going to show a bit of parkrun l-u-r-v-e and volunteer? Either post here or email [email protected]. Looking forward to sharing that parkrun lurve! Anne.

30 of 34 - THE THREE LEG RELAY - "parkrun is a free, 5km, weekly timed run", so the strapline goes, but it's actually a lot more than that, it's a community builder, and communities can sometimes go on to do their own thing. Like our annual Three Leg Relay where teams of three come together to challenge each other on a relay run around our regular parkrun course. The young chap pictured today sums up the fun of this event (now in it's 4th year) as he flies across the finish line.

WE WANT YOUR BABIES!

We put out a request for photos of parkrun babies a few days ago. Thank you to those who have replied but we think there must be a lot more out there. So here's what it's all about ... For our photo-a-day history series we'd like to put together a montage of babies that have been born into our parkrun family whilst we've been parkrunning on Woodhouse Moor. So, mums and dads - if you've brought a parkrun baby into the world since we starter on 6-Oct-07 could you let us have a piccy of your child (at any age) plus his / her first name? You can post them here, message us on FB or email [email protected] Soon as you can please! (Frank)

28 of 34 - ONE SMALL STEP - On 31 May 2014 Neil Hall was our 222nd finisher. As he crossed the finish line he took the total completed distance of parkrunning on Woodhouse Moor up to the distance from the earth to the moon - phew! We don't normally do spot prizes but couldn't resist on this occasion gifting him a Haynes workshop manual for Apollo 11. We like practical presents.

We are still short of a few volunteers this Saturday so if you unable to run, come to cheer on friends or just fancy seeing it from the other side of the hi-vis vest, please let me know and we look forward to seeing you in the morning.

If you have never volunteered as you are not sure what to do, don't worry about it as a full briefing is provided. The most important skill is enthusiasm :-)

20 of 34 - JUNIOR VOLUNTEERS - We love to see children taking part, but that doesn't just mean running, they can volunteer too. Like our regular token collector George, pictured here, who always makes sure we get all our finish tokens back. All done with a smile and lots of encouraging cheers. Thank you George, you're a star!

IMPORTANT MESSAGE
We love to see happy children taking part and they are welcome to join us at parkrun events.
However, all under 11s must be accompanied by a responsible parent or guardian throughout the run and/or when volunteering.
This is an insurance requirement and a non-negotiable rule.
The majority of our Under 11's are accompanied responsibly, but despite making the above rule clear before today's run, (and before previous runs), there continue to be parents/guardians who are not acting responsibly, and failing to comply.
Event Teams have the authority to remove the results of persistent flouters of this non-negotiable rule. This is being firmly applied.
If you are running with an under 11, please make yourself known to our volunteers when you and your youngster have your barcodes scanned. Hopefully this will ensure that both your results are processed. If you do not do this, and we are unable to determine an obvious parent/guardian from the results, then the result of the under 11 person will be removed.
If we wrongly expunge a result, please let the event team know by e-mailing us (not through facebook) and let us know the details of the under 11 that has been deleted, and the details (name and barcode number) of the accompanying adult and we will rectify any errors.
I look forward to welcoming all young runners, and their responsible parent/guardians throughout 2015 and beyond.
(Sam)

18 of 34 - 24/7 VOLUNTEERING - parkrun couldn't happen without volunteers. Our volunteers aren't just active on Saturday mornings, they can be doing all sorts of behind-the-scenes any time any day, and their rewards are just as varied. Today's picture was taken by one of our volunteers one evening last year whilst doing a parkrun-related errand when he was rewarded with this stunning Hyde Park sunset.

17 of 34 - PACERS - Every PB is a magic moment. The air punch, the under-the-breath "Yes!", the justified reward for all that extra training. We've had 17,307 of these little dollops of joy in our seven and a bit years. So, today, we celebrate the pacers, who've done their bit to encourage many of our parkrunners on to their moment of glory.

16 of 34 - AGE-GRADE AWESOMENESS - Yes, parkrun is about inclusiveness and participation but that doesn't mean we can't celebrate achievement too. That's why we want to shout out loud about our age-grade record holder, Treena Johnson, pictured here on 13 September 2014 when she stormed to a phenomenal 91.83% age-grade result with her time of 18:58.

15 of 34 - THE RIDDLE OF THE DUKE - Who has stood on the start line of every one of our 385 parkruns but never ran a step? The Duke of course! We began thinking he couldn't get off his pedestal, then, on 13 June 2009 he just looked a little different. We couldn't work out what had changed but we felt sure he'd come off his perch and over-celebrated the night before. Thank you to Helen Williams for this photo.

Is it Wednesday already? What, only three more sleeps until parkrun?
Who'll join our band of volunteers this week? Early indications are that the parkrun microclimate will kick in and it will be a sunny 9am.
Post here, or email [email protected] if you can help out. Thanks. Anne.

7 of 34 - AGE GRADE INSPIRATION - The parkrun abacus does some clever sums to adjust your results for age and gender and put everyone on a level playing field, as it were. These "Age Grade" percentages are displayed alongside your results. Woodhouse Moor parkrun stalwart Malcolm Coles (pictured here) has earned an average Age Grade of 77.7% whilst clocking up more than 200 parkruns. If we sorted the results by Age Grade (and perhaps we should) this means Malcolm would regularly feature in our first five finishers. A truly inspirational performance.

6 of 34 - THE WHITE STUFF - If the forecast snow hadn't decided to stay in bed this morning we'd still have taken it in our stride. Just like we did on 19 December 2009 which provides the subject for today's photo showing our Event Director, Sam Dooley, cruising to a 4th place finish.
