3D Printing Leeds assisted a local Artist to modify their clay extrusion machine to enhance a moment of discovery!

Whilst producing hand-crafted Pottery by extruding clay profiles Stella () noticed the wonderful random artistic patterns it created.

3D Printing Leeds worked from Stella’s brief to create several CAD modifications to the die to enhance and control this effect and then 3D Printed strong prints for testing.

Earlier this year we had the opportunity to provide Industrial Design and 3D Printing, Rapid Manufacturing, to make a real difference for a client.

Our client, Garolla, was stuck with a supply chain issue. Vital parts for their roller door mechanism were in low stock and within days of running out. The war in the Gulf, Pirates and the Suez Canal crisis caused worldwide challenges and months of delay in the delivery of products.

3D Printing LEEDS rapidly re-engineered new parts in quick iteration. We tested the successive prototypes to ensure that the new parts for the roller door mechanism were a perfect replacement for size, fit and material properties and that the parts also functioned better, were stronger, and were more durable.

We could then up-scale our production facility capacity for their needs from 180 parts to 800 parts per week.

3D Printing Leeds was approached by a company to do a quick turn-around of some product casings of their range of devices.

It makes such a difference to receive a nice clean water-tight .STL CAD file from a Client.
From these we could produce a test print and then provide a quotation.

3D Printing Leeds was requested to 3D Scan this small clip … but it was far quicker and exacting to go straight to CAD.

Within a hour we had a prototype and in the next hour 3d Printed a proof in PLA which turned out to be perfect first-time 🙂

There, we knew that would get your attention 🙂

No 3D Print is ever straight-forward so our project managers analyse each file to ensure the result is successful.

In this case the supplied .STL files and requested material print process did not have matching tolerance’s. So we re-did the CAD and did several test prints, to endure we could fulfil the order to the customers aspirations 🙂

3D Printing with Coffee … yes! Honestly.
‘Just put it in your 3D Printer and press print’ … ah, No…
Every form/shape and filament is different, and in this case we needed to rebuild a 3D Printer with a special nozzle and extruder settings in order to retain the colour and texture of the supplied filament resulting in a believable tactile feel too.
We also did the CAD and prototypes before the final batch run was perfected.
Anyway… WOW!
