Now that we have some sun here in Leeds (or wherever you're currently enjoying the rays) it's time to get this new delivery of Archie's 👣 on your feet.

Happy to have served two-time world champion boxer, Josh Warrington who was buying some new running shoes to keep his fitness levels up between fights 🥊

Emma, who's celebrating her 11 year anniversary at Up and Running this month, is running the Rasselbock Running half marathon this Sunday in the very beautiful setting of Sherwood Pines.

Emma is also a daily runstreaker and will hit 1️⃣,3️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ consecutive days, the day after the half.

Emma's daily runs are in either the Brooks Ghost or the Glycerin, or Mizuno Running Daichi trail shoes.

She'll be using Clif Shot Bloks on the day and also OTE pineapple hydro tabs. Salt sticks might be used too if it's warm! ☀️

Not running golden acre relay tonight? Join us tonight for a 5k run instead.🏃

We'll be leaving the shop at 6pm, heading out for 5KMs, and finishing at the Northern monk brewery.

Altra running will be providing try-on shoes and a free beer at northern monk afterwards.

The Iliotibial Band (IT Band) is a thick band of fibres that runs on the lateral side of the thigh, from the top of the hip at the Iliac Crest, down to the lateral side of the Knee at the Femoral Condyle, appearing at the Tensor Fascia Latae and Gluteus Maximus muscles.  And Surrounded by the Glute Minimus, Medius and Hip Flexors.
 
IT Band Syndrome (ITBS) is when the band becomes so tight, it causes a friction and compression of the highly innervated fat pad underneath the femoral condyle, causing a sensation of pain and discomfort.
 
Usually caused by a weakness in surrounding muscles, causing the hip to hyper-abduct and forcing the band to tighten along the thigh. This can sometimes feel like a snapping or flicking sensation as the band rubs, sometimes this can be audible.
 
The main symptom of ITBS is a sharp pain on the outer aspect of the knee, particularly when the heel strikes the floor, that can radiate into the outer thigh or calf and may be made worse with running or walking downstairs.
 
Because of this, it is often referred to as Runner’s knee although this is slightly different and will be the focus of the next video.
 
There is a high prevalence of this injury in runners, primarily due to the increased amount of repetitive knee flexion and extension they experience within a continuous running gait cycle.
 
 
Common Causes:
-       Weak surrounding muscles (glutes mid and max, hip flexors usually culpable)
-       Tightness in surrounding muscles causing the band to tighten.
-       Over pronation causing the band to tighten
-       Loss of strength after a long run
-       Overuse, from an increase in training or being new to running.

This weekend staff member Emma took part in Endure24 at Bramham Park and completed 40 miles of stunning trail running, laps run during both the day and the night.

The forests are Emma's favourite place to be and she is also the Ambassador for Rasselbock Running who are hosting their first half and full marathon on 21 July this year at Sherwood Pines 🌲
