Wiff of the Woods Wiff of the Woods comes from a childhood nick name born from my inability to say "if" properly. It feels more vibrant.
The name was the source of a few leg pulls as a child but has followed through into adulthood. I have always had a natural connection with wood, from making my first

Mini me and my mates the Corvids having a chat and swearing at the 🌧️.
Ashley Iles no 3 sweep monster palm tool. Getting good whittling tools in the UK is a pain but come up trumps again.
I have been loving these for so long but I hate to copy anyone's work without permission so I was thrilled to see this project in my copy of Woodcarving illustrated inviting me to have a go. The scrollsaws obliged by cutting the 4cm thick timber so the omens are good
Today's mission was to make a whittling group happen in at the beautiful ILKON gallery. I run a whittling group over on Facebook called the UK Whittlers and it's has been my plan to create a real supporting community. We are on the way!
Decided my chicken needed a folk art finish.
Working my way through Caricature Soldiers by Floyd Rhadigan. I particularly enjoyed carving the uniform and the dogs hat.
Cutting out a stack of James Miller chicken shapes for a whittling group I run. It's great to share my hobby with new carvers. We make kindling and company and that's fine.
I love a nice bit of architecture in a building full of sculptural machines, all doing their bit for cutlery manufacturing in Hathersage
4 degrees and a tepid pool temperature. Our head gear is red hot though
Think I have all my whittling knives properly protected now. I may get the chance to do some carving soon!
Bit of leather and a touch of saddle stitch keeps my tools snuggly!
Carving inspiration, blessed with getting a copy of for Christmas now I am seeing inspiration for my own chip carving designs based on local monuments
Today's creation is lentil bread. Surprised how good this tastes
Well I am a bit of a Goldilocks! When I am not gardening I am whittling. I run a Facebook group called the UK Whittlers and on a Tuesday night I run a whittling group in Leek. This month we are carving polar bears.

Our Story
Wiff’s Wood comes from a childhood nick name born from my inability to say "if" properly. The name was the source of a few leg pulls as a child but has followed through into adulthood.
I have always had a natural connection with wood, from making my first
go cart, to carving a face, walking stick handle, coat hook or spoon.
There is always a new personal discovery and design challenge I can form with the material.
I like to work with locally sourced timber from nearby woodlands and enjoy giving a product to customers that they can have a real personal link with.
Nothing beats finding a freshly cut lime wood log at Ilam Hall carving it by hand and selling the made coffee scoop to a customer who will cherish it.
In addition I also have a micro print works based around a collection of Adana printing table top presses and a few trays of old type faces and printing blocks
(many are in Wood!) My father was a printer in Leek and the smell from those ink cans just takes me back.
The creation of your own printed material in a digital age, it involves all the senses.
It feels more vibrant.
I also enjoy making pick up and go gifts from small badges to my always popular maps of the local area mounted on wood
