Another exciting project in full swing🔥
Updates on this one to follow....
Long time no post!
After a nice break at the beginning of the holidays, we've been back all hands on deck managing our current projects.
A few photos here of some local school works that were scheduled and completed in the holidays🔆
This included some compliance work and emergency lighting repairs, along with some other repairs and minor installation works⚡
A bit of home gym envy😎
Here's a sauna we installed a supply to for a dear customer, earlier in the year🔥
Due to the siting, instead of damaging the finished decor in the house, we also had to lengthen and upgrade the flex to the connection plate - using a 4mm² H07 rubber flex⚡

Here's a bit of angle drilling from last week🎯
📌Listed buildings throw up many challenges. This is one of the easier ones, but still a big thing to consider when working out cable routes.
This building was built some time around the mid 18th century. So preserving features like the coving, whether completely original or not, is a major factor with any renovation works ✅
Another good week✅
Plenty of progress on this office rewire.
I normally have a general plan of what needs to be completed during the week, along with filtering in the needs of the builders as and when.
On any commercial or large domestic work though, I like to have a walk around at the end of the week, just to have a look in more detail what's been achieved and to plan out the following week.
This also included today, marking up the rough as fitted drawings for this site, which will get mastered as each floor is completed.
What is LSOH cable?
This cable can be sometimes referred to as LSZH, an abbreviation of 'Low Smoke Zero Halogen.
These types of cables are not made with the same sort of chemicals as used in standard PVC wiring and therefore emit less fumes when in a fire.
Quote from Eland Cables website: "Burning PVC has been found in tests to reduce visibility in the surrounding area by as much as 50% within 10 minutes. After 30 minutes, visibility can be reduced by as 90% making it unnecessarily challenging to escape the area."
If you consider the, in any substantially sized commercial building, there could be miles of wiring. Even a small fire around these could quickly cause a lack of vision with potentially fatal consequences.
In regards to this we are guided by each individual site or client specifications and there are no actual electrical regulations that cover it. Although generally, as a matter of course, we use this type of cable, across all of our commercial sites.
We believe in proving the best overall final product for our customers✅

5 Tips or businesses to reduce their energy consumption. (Link at the bottom)
The ones that stand out for me are to have regular lighting maintenance and to make use of natural light from windows and skylights.
If you're still using old flourescent style lights, now's definitely a good time to get upgraded to LED. At the very least, your new LED lights will use 50% less energy and even up to 90%! Plus, LEDs are more efficient, having less losses from heat💡

Swift rectification of an issue at a local school⚡
Some recent LED upgrades to lighting circuits that were on B curve protective devices, were causing three RCBO's to trip when being switched on.
This is due to the high start up current associated with LED lighting.
If anybody is interested I've put up the tripping characteristics of B, C & D curve miniature circuit breakers🤓

A good busy week to start the year off!
Here's the electrical fail of the week⚡
2.5mm² Singles tagged off the main incoming supply to energise L1 and L2 of the board!
Obviously this was swiftly rectified ✅
That's a wrap for this year!
We've had a great start in the business after opening in August. There's been some learning curves...and I'm sure more to come but couldn't be happier with my decision to 'go it alone!'
Here's to continued actions towards my goals in the new year, growth in the business and a growing team!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of my customers and followers!🎄🎅
We've recently carried out emergency light repairs and replacements at a local school 💡
This followed a duration test where we isolate the mains supply to the emergency lights, simulating a power failure, allowing batteries to illuminate the light for the test duration, then record any failures.
Tests you require to ensure compliance and to ensure safety of your business, school, staff, pupils and in the worst case the fire brigade would include; monthly functional operation or 'flick tests', and an annual 1 hour and 3 hour duration tests with a 6 Month period in-between each.
This one of many aspects of maintaining a safe and compliant building.
Is your business compliant!?🚨

Here's a couple of lights replaced at a small commercial building in Leicester last week.
We went for Robus Falcon 30w LED lights from , which coming pre flexed were quick to install.
With a junction box aside it to pick up the old wiring and connect⚡
There's an increased demand for external lighting repairs and additions at this darker, colder time of the year ❄️
Contact us for any repairs or replacements; or if you want to upgrade to LED, brighten up your building and save on that electric bill💷 💡
Sparkies might notice on this I've not used a cable gland for the cable entry.
As well as a 20mm thread, the Wiska junction boxes also have the piercable self sealing membranes on each entry. This still gives you an IP66 seal.
Depending on the job I tend to use these instead of glands as I think it reduces the impact on the eye👁️
Just make sure if you are doing this that you're using the Wiska strain relief ring to stop the cable being pulled out and putting strain on the connections.
The product codes are ZER 4-12 LG or ZER 11-18 LG, depending on the diameter of the cable.

Here's a potentially life threatening reason why.....
a) You should have electrical work carried out by a competent person
b)have an safety check or EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Report) carried out routinely
This applies in commercial and domestic settings but moreso in the home🏘️
According to Electrical Safety First, electricity is the cause in the UK, in over 20,000 homes🔥
Couple this with, from the Home Office National Statistics, that "In the year ending March 2022:
fires where a smoke alarm was not present accounted for 24 per cent (6,449) of all dwelling fires and 37 per cent (76) of all dwelling fire-related fatalities", you have a potentially fatal combination🚨
Don't risk yours or your family's lives 👨👩👧👦 If you need any advice please get in touch, we'd be happy to help🤝

Not the best install from the previous electrician here, who had somehow managed to install a recessed light into a cut out with a joist running across it 🙄
This adjustable downlight from though, was perfect for the job.
Perfectly covered the existing hole and the slim design makes it a lot easier on the eye than a standard surface bulkhead💡
One of a few lighting repairs and upgrades for a HMO landlord in Leicester...
Used a 10w Robus Golf fitting here which really brightened up the room💡
Landlords...it's your last day!🚨
Homeowners...Please take note!
From tomorrow (1st October 2022) you'll need to ensure a carbon monoxide alarm is installed in any room used as living accommodation which contains a fixed combustion appliance (excluding gas cookers).
This is in addition to your smoke alarms which should already be fitted on each storey🔥
The ideal system would use hard wired mains powered detectors, with a wired interlink, however the regulations do not stipulate a particular type.
If fitting battery powered detectors, government guidance, and I personally, would recommend detectors with a 10 year sealed battery.
This event should also just give landlords or letting agents a nudge to ensure the correct protection is in place, that all detectors are in date and to test and check for any faults.
All though this information applies to rented accommodation, it's worth having a check, if you are a homeowner - have you got smoke alarms, one on each floor as a minimum? Have you got any detection for carbon monoxide? And are your detectors tested regularly and in date?
Here's a couple of links with guidance for carbon monoxide and fire awareness in the home. If there's anything else I can help you with, send me a message📨

Fitted this 2 camera wireless CCTV system recently, from , the EufyCam 2 Pro 📸
Really nice modern design and the cameras feel like they're built well.
Simple to set up and some brilliant features within the app, being able to differentiate between humans and pets, and has facial recognition!
Let's see if it lives up to its advertised 365 day battery life!🔋
Look at this mess! 🚨
I came across this whilst on another job in a loft, buried under the loft insulation.
Not only is this a danger to anybody in the loft who might unknowingly touch exposed live terminals⚡it's also a fire risk, a heightened risk as well being covered by insulation and located right next to the wooden joists! 🔥
This fed a light via a photocell which had been wired using the CPC of the flex as a live conductor🚩

Recification:
Reterminated connections into maintenance free junction box in the loft. Replaced with a photocell and the replaced cable with a flex with enough cores to provide an earth at that point🌍💡

Great morning for fault finding yesterday out in the☀️😎
Quick fix for these outside lights that were not working💡
Being switched from inside the house, the wiring then went through an external photocell before going to the lights.
A faulty photocell being the outcome!✅
Joined out and bypassed temporarily so the customer can operate their lights from the switch, until we find a suitable replacement ⚡
A few photos from a little install this morning. Additional sockets installed in galvanized conduit as requested by the customer. Also a CAT6 network point to extend the WiFi to the bottom of the garden.
