Cheeky treat before half term taking over 70 travel and tourism students to Drayton Manor. Great place to see a visitor attraction in action and witness customer service first hand.
The academic year 2022/2023 had gotten off to a flying start with Induction & Activate weeks all under our belts. The students are all amazing so far and Faye, Jo & Mark are looking forward to next Tuesday & getting stuck into lessons.
So enjoy your weekend & we hope you are able to take a pause on Monday and reflect on the life & achievements of The Queen as she is laid to rest.
RIP Ma'am.
Thursday was day 2 of the Big Bang Fair 2022 & easily the busiest of the three days. Our thanks go to EngineeringUK for inviting us back again and to all the Team Leaders who looked after us so well.
(Thought I had already posted this, but apparently Facebook has other ideas! Sorry for the delay)
Friday & day 3 of volunteering at the Big Bang Fair 2022. A chance for some of the volunteers to have a go in the accelerator before heading back out into the show floor to help look after 10,000 11-14 year olds & their teachers.
A fantastic effort from all involved & we can't wait to get back & help out again next year.
Wednesday was Day 1 of our Travel and Tourism students volunteering at the Big Bang Fair. First time there since the pandemic hit. Proud to say they smashed it out of the park, working in teams, with new people and sometimes on their own.
Day 2 here we come!
November already and this week we were very excited to hold our first student interviews for next year's 2022/23 cohort.

NWSLC trip to Drayton Manor 08.10.21,
to gain an understanding of how DMP implement customer service, run their business, and implement technology whilst being environmentally aware.
Oh yeah, and to have a real fun time!
Day 2 of enrolling - A lady who was on our travel and tourism course in 2007 brought her daughter in to sign up for our travel and tourism course.
Talk about making the tutors feel old!
Older, yes. Wiser, possibly. Still as passionate about T&T, most definitely!
Excellent first day of enrolling our new cohort of students. So great to be back in the college with students and fab to see so many parents coming along to support their children.
Looking forward to another good day tomorrow.
If you haven't applied yet, there's still time, don't worry. Just follow the link!

Nearly at the halfway point of the year, here's a great article about the summer solstice which answers some common questions.

Time today to say see ya soon to our brilliant level 2 learners. Sadly missing a couple due to appointments & work commitments, but great to catch up.
It's been a small group of level 2s this year, but they have been amazing in terms of ability, attendance & effort put in.
We are looking forward to welcoming some of the group on our Level 3 next year & to the others who are moving on to pastures new we wish you every success. It has been our pleasure to work with you this year.
Remember Jo & Mark are still around to help with any job searching/applications you want to make, through to running mock interviews with you if you feel the need for a practise before going for the real thing.
Keep being amazing & great things will come your way.
Have a fantastic summer
Mark & Jo
11 years to the day we set up this page to celebrate our students and their achievements and to record some of our adventures together.
We have had some amazing students pass through our classrooms and it's been fantastic to watch them progress into their universities and careers.
This group of 2nd years are no exception. Some have been with us for 3 years, some for 2 years, but each one of them has been an asset to our course, a genuine pleasure to be around and seeing them grow and develop has been such a source of pride for Jo and myself.
You have been an amazing group of talented people and have come through a very difficult 20/21 amazingly well.
We know only good things await you and we stand ready to help you in the future in anyway we can.
So keep in touch and keep on being amazing.
Mark & Jo
We haven't utilised our FB page for quite some time, so have decided to dust the old thing off & use it a bit more frequently to keep you up to date on our T & T adventures.
Starting with the end. End of year 1 for these guys that is and getting ready to start year 2 of their level 3 course. (Missing a few due to work commitments/appointments)
Well done everyone, in what's been a difficult year you have been amazing.
Here's to a much better 2021/22
Super day today visiting some of the Level 3 2nd years at their work experience employers. Roshni & Nandani were smashing it out of this world at the National Space Centre, Mia & Tamzin were styling it out at the Grand Hotel with Raluca & Tiago polishing up the Marriott like it's never been polished before. Courtney was stepping back in time with royalty at King Richard III visitor centre and Shehnaaz and Tahmara were benefitting from the knowledge and experience of our former student Nicole who has been working at the TUI superstore for since graduating from the college. Fantastic reports from all the employers and Mark & Jo could not be more proud.
Next week we will catch up with Toni, Holly, Jade, Megan and Izzy.
**IMPORTANT**
We have received word from the organisers of the Big Bang Fair 2020 that the event has been cancelled for all the scheduled days. This will obviously impact the Level 2 & Level 3 1st years who were volunteering at the event.
As it stands the Level 3 2nd years will still be going ahead with their individual 2 week work placement until we receive advise to say otherwise from our Health and Safety Department.
If you have any questions or concerns please follow the link below for information on the cancellation or contact the college directly on 0116 264 35 35
Thank you Mark & Jo

The Big Bang UK Young Scientists and Engineers Fair 2020 has been cancelled | The Big Bang Fair The Big Bang UK Young Scientists and Engineers Fair has announced today that this year’s Fair - due to take place 11 to 14 March 2020 - has been cancelled.
After soaking up the views from the Sky Garden we headed towards St Paul's Cathedral then across the Millennium Bridge and a walk along the South Bank, mingling with office workers and tourists and enjoying the sights before heading to the West End and the marvellous Novello Theatre to watch Mamma Mia. Amazing production with a very talented cast. The students were brilliant all day, taking every stop in their stride and soaking up as much knowledge as they could along the way. A brilliant experience of a day all round.

Busy day in London following some of the popular tourist trails. Our Level 3 2nd years experienced the delights of travel by mini bus, train (we even managed to all get a seat!) and underground, before heading to the 'walkie talkie' building and taking in the views from the amazing Sky Garden. We experienced some excellent customer service whilst there and the range of nationalities of visitors really demonstrated what an international hub for tourism and a gateway to the rest of the country London really is.
Time for a coffee. How's your break time today?
Underground done, onward to the Sky Garden!
2nd year level 3 Travel & Tourism experiencing the touristic delights of London. 1st stop Rugby Train Station and a direct run into London Euston.
A super way to end the week thanks to Stacey and our friends at HRG Leicester. We caught up with 6 of our former students who are currently working for the HRG, the world's largest business travel company. Pictured are Senior Consultant Darren & Tabatha, one of our 2019 cohort who has just successfully passed her 6 months probation period. They, along with other departments, gave our students a fascinating insight into the often unknown world of business travel. Knowing that so many of our former students have successfully progressed into this area has inspired many of our current cohort to consider following in Tabatha & Co's footsteps. Thanks again to Stacey & all her colleagues at HRG.
Level 3 2nd Year Travel & Tourism students spent Monday this week at the TUI Superstore in Beaumont Leys as part of National Apprenticeship Week.
Apprenticeship Coach Carol Sage & Retail Trainer Annika Joul have our sincere thanks for making the day the day so informative & interesting. The students enjoyed an insight into the inner workings of a travel agency and were able to spend time learning some of the systems used to help sell holidays before sitting on the shop floor with members of staff and engaging with customers.
We were also able to catch up with Nicole a former student of ours who has been working for TUI since leaving the college 3 years ago.
This is the 3rd year our friends at TUI have invited students from the college to take part in the taster day and we look forward to continuing our relationship in the future.
Our Level 2 Travel & Tourism students have spent the last couple of weeks developing their team working & organisational skills to create a range of different activities designed to fund raise for a charity chosen by the group. In a great demonstration of democracy in action the group could not decide on just one charity, so voted for two, which are Cancer Research & Mind.
Our principal Marion Plant OBE drew the raffle ticket for the hamper which was won by staff member Amarjit.
Thanks to the support of the college community our students raised a fantastic £156.02 which will be divided between the two charities.
Well done to everyone for all your hard work.
Brilliant to welcome Stacey, Hayley & Nicola to the college today for a guest speaker spot. Stacey is the Operations Manager at the Leicester branch of Hogg Robinson Group. She gave an insight into the roles they perform in the world of business travel and explained how their recent merger with American Express has made them the world's biggest player in business travel.
Hayley & Nicola are former Travel & Tourism students of the college and are amongst a growing number of former students who have carved out a successful career at HRG. It was great to see them in the classroom as they shared their own advice with our current cohort.
Thanks to all 3 and we look forward to seeing them again next year.
