One of the most “spiritual” people I have ever had the absolute honour of knowing was so far removed from the media image that we’ve all been led to believe over time. She drank and smoked (occasionally) had never done yoga in her life or so much as opened a journal to pen her passing thoughts. But oh boy was she enlightened, a wise soul that was always, always kind but not always perceived as “nice”. Every opportunity she uplifted and inspired, had you dig that little deeper to peel away the hard layers to get to your light. And most importantly she Empowered. Not from ego but from a place of love, of compassion. A true teacher, mentor and guide. Each day she is with me, a part of her never gone for that was the legacy she left behind. It’s all so easy to get caught up in a constant state of striving, modern society is founded on just that and I too grew up partly believing that if worked hard and got a good job and looked after myself then I would have freedom and peace of mind. But I didn’t know then that it didn’t quite work like that. And I quickly learnt that you don’t have to strive or search outside. Because all those things you are striving for are in fact your natural states of being. Think of babies and young children, they are nothing but beautiful beings of love, freedom, peace and joy. Completely content with the moment and totally unafraid of expressing themselves. But along the path of life, stuff comes along and you get caught up in the rat race, causing you to forget who you really are. ✨When I have ___ I’ll feel free. ✨I’ll be peaceful when ____ . ✨___ brings me Joy Sound familiar? Well, I’ll let you into a secret… If you keep looking to the external world to find peace, freedom and joy, it’ll never happen. Why? Because they are states of being, they are who you are and not just things to aquire or experience when things are going good. There is no magic formula or magic wand, and there doesn’t have to be because life is much simpler when we take away the noise. True freedom comes from being at peace with whatever is happening within your life and living from a place of joy.
