Mealey Electrical Contractors Ltd are a Leicester based company actively seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join our growing team. We are looking for an Electrical CAD Designer to create Electrical designs, drawings and schematics for our upcoming projects, mainly in the industrial sector but also in educational and commercial. We are offering a competitive salary based on both experience and qualification.

Key responsibilities:

Produce and review electrical schematics in accordance with relevant standards and internal Computer Aided Design (CAD) processes using AutoCAD Electrical.
Work with client and team to successfully deliver electrical design deliverables with agreed programme and budget.
Work with client to determine design requirements, deliverables and communicate where blockers, delays and insufficient information is evident.
Liaise with BIM engineers to ensure design and installation will meet client satisfaction.
Provide engineering checks including production of checking calculations, details, drawings and schematics, to determine accuracy of design consultant work.
Work in AutoCAD, Navis and BIM- investigate and enquire consultancy design, occasionally making first-hand design amendments if required.
Monitor progress of projects, providing regular updates to client and team. Able to determine amendments and tech subs where necessary in order to meet client satisfaction.
Work alongside Procurement and Commercial teams to produce tech subs, issuing to design consultancy for approval.
Receive and review first issue design consultancy deliverables (drawings, calculations and tech subs) and return to design consultancy as necessary, for revision.

Skills and Experience:

Strong Experience in an Electrical Design Engineering position.
Engineering Degree in related discipline (experienced Electrical Design Engineers without a degree will also be considered).
Proficient user of AutoCAD Electrical or similar (2+ years).
Proficient user of MS office for.
Knowledge of electrical systems design and analysis techniques.
Strong organizational skills, able to engage confidently with a range of professionals.
Strong understanding of Electrical Safety Standards and Health and Safety practises.
Strong Customer Focus.

Here is a look at a job near completion, Airedale hospital, well done to everyone working on this job.

Mealey Electrical contractors were instructed to carry out the refurbishment of a first-floor open plan office area where individual meeting rooms were created, along with reception and kitchen areas. Mealey Electrical were employed in a sub-contractor capacity.

The works consisted of modifications to the existing lighting as per the new office plans. The existing movement sensors located in the ceiling were used to operate the lighting in the open plan areas whereas switches were used in the meeting rooms. Small power to all areas consisted of new Dado trunking installed above the desks to allow for easy access to the socket outlets. Existing circuits were retained in around the perimeter of the offices, with additional socket outlets added. TV locations were installed to the meeting rooms and reception area.

Door access system was installed to the reception and rear emergency exit door which are operated via keypad and fob. The system is also linked to the fire alarm system and will release in the event of a fire. The existing fire alarm was altered/added to in order to accommodate the new meeting and office area layout and then commissioned.

Throughout the duration of the contract communication between the client and Mealey Electrical was efficiently maintained, enabling the successful completion of the various installations/ modifications on time.

Mealey Electrical Ltd. were commissioned to carry out the refurbishment of Ward 34 at Glenfield Hospital. Mealey Electrical were employed in a sub-contractor capacity.

The mandate for the job consisted of removing the existing bedhead trunking in 6 bays and installing new bedhead trunking in 7 bay locations.

The existing small power circuits were isolated (LOTO) and reconfigured when the new trunking was installed. New inspection lights were also installed to each bed location. The existing main lighting above the beds remains in place but the switching needed to be moved into the new bedhead trunking. This was accomplished by discussing the requirements with the manufacturers of the trunking system and a switch was provided within the trunking at various locations.

The contract was carried out over a very short period of time, with a deadline to adhere to, which we were able to complete to the client’s satisfaction. Testing and commissioning were carried out during the installation and at the final stages.

Responsibilities will include contract management through to completion, control of site labour & materials, control of sub-contractors and attending client meetings.

You will also be one of our NICEIC qualified supervisors responsible for signing off electrical certificates.

The successful applicant will have a sound knowledge of construction health & safety, have good communications skills and be competent with Microsoft office applications, e.g. Word and Excel.
