We Are

Iv been putting off writing this post for a few weeks as quite frankly I don’t want to believe it’s actually the truth. Our last day of trading will be Saturday 16th of September. We Are has been on an amazing adventure and I have put my heart and soul into making it work, from humble beginnings in the basement on Humberstone gate, to our last home at James’ cafe. But it’s unfortunately come to an end. Thank you to everyone who has been apart of the journey, artist, customers, friends and everyone else who has stepped inside and appreciated the incredible talent leicester has to offer. I have learned so much from this experience and I hope I have done what I set out to do, which was to create a place where artists and makers of Leicester could come together as a community through what we love doing, and create a beautiful space for all to enjoy. On this day 4 years ago I open the doors for the first time in the basement on Humberstone gate. I had no money, no clue how it would go, but so much support right from the very beginning that gave me the confidence to go for it. Covid hit before I’d been there a year and We Are nearly closed down, but we hung on, and now going strong in Thank you to everyone that has been to visit and support the 60 plus local artists by buying there work. It’s heartbreaking to say that one of our amazing artists and friends has sadly passed away. . I still have a few pieces of her hand woven fabric creations and as requested by her family will he donating all the money from sales to who helped her immensely for the last few months. So if you knew her and you would like a piece of her work, I have a few pieces left.

Amazing news! Thanks to the incredible outpouring of support we received in the run up to and during our closure, our landlords have had a change of heart and agreed to renegotiate our terms.

That means that James' Bistro is rising, phoenix-like, from the ashes 💥 But we need your support one more time to make it happen. We are launching a Crowdfunder at midday today, to raise much needed funds to do all the repairs, make the joint more accessible and generally make James' more delicious, more fun and more diverse.

We'll post the link to our Crowdfunder at midday, but rest assured your help will be rewarded with tasty treats. And Leicester's quirkiest cafe and venue will be home in time for Christmas.

We cannot express our thanks enough to everyone who showed us so much love. It has made such a difference and we can't believe we have the chance to reboot James'!

It’s with a heavy heart that I let all my lovely customers that James' Cafe Bistro the current home for around 60 local artists that We Are current represent is closing its doors on Saturday. Iv truly loved sharing a space with this amazing cafe. It’s not the end for We Are Leicester and I’m working on finding us a new home. Please keep following us to see our plans for the future.
