! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO SIFU !
Thank you for all the teachings, wisdom, brutal amounts of riot police pressups, heaps of kindness, truth, motivation and friendship over the last 9 years, which is when this photo is from. After 5 days of knife combatives and defence with some of the most inspiring martial artists I've met I knew I had found a Master to follow. Deepest bows. Oss!
~ What a gift it is to be able to kick off every week by teaching Tai Chi! ~
I feel very lucky to be able to share and practice what I love with others. It's awesome. Have a great week! π

Matteo is new to Tai Chi and just received his yellow sash after his first grading with Sifu . Great work on your practice so far. A 1000 mile journey begins with your yellow sash...or something close to that! π

Philosophy we discussed in class last week. 4 words Thich Nhat Hahn wrote in one of his many wonderful calligraphies. Grading weekend for many students this weekend and what an inspiring 4 words to carry with you. What does it mean to you? ππ

~ Meditation, every morning, wherever you are ~
Zhan zhuang standing meditation by Corcovado National Park. 'Standing pole' practice holds so many key principles to your tai chi practice PLUS it's crucial for taking your calm tranquil practice from seated meditation out into the world in your everyday life. Giving you the chance to find calm when you might most need it. It's one thing to be able to empty the mind when seated and silent, it's another when your faced with the noise of everyday life or conflict. It also feels wonderful and gently strengths the body. Pura vida β―οΈππ
~ Tai Chi is best served like breakfast - first thing ~
Whether I'm at home in LoS or honeymooning in Central America my Tai Chi and meditation practice is early morning. Usually 6am but whilst away it was more pleasant to wake up with the animals of the rainforest around 5am.
That's the stunning Arenal volcano giving me some company. What a pleasure to train below it ππβ―οΈ
~ Been on an adventure ~
Practicing outdoors surrounded by the natural world is a must for tai chi and qigong but morning training above the rainforest was a new one for me. This wonderful wellness spot is literally end of the road. Nowhere to run to, no reception. As Lana the owner said on the first night, "Nature is the best medicine". Perfect π

~ What a wonderful way to return balance to your mind and body ~
Here's a video I made for a student recently who had to miss a few classes. Simply guiding you through the basics of the beginning of the form. Finding stillness in the mind, relaxing the body, moving as one. I β€ the gentle art of Tai Chi and it rocks to be able to share it with you. Have an awesome week!
~ Practicing stillness can allow you to see true reality ~
These simple 4 words by say a lot, but this morning they reminded me of the power of insight.
When we slow things down, turn down the volume of our story, lessen the noise around us and step away from other people's circuses we can sometimes see what is really going on and maybe even why! That means we can focus on what's really happening and not dissipate our energy in places it doesn't need to be. Enjoy your stillness practice, it's powerful π
~ Good Luck to all my students today in your live grading with Sifu ~
Your hard work and diligent practice with Part the Wild Horses Mane will pay off. You rock!
~ Mind calm & body at ease ~
We're all pretty great at rushing around and getting stuff done but we can often find it very difficult to stop. To slow down the body & quieten the mind. But all it takes is practice π

~ Practice 'stopping' daily. It is an investment in longevity ~
We can all pile on the stress, work hard, no pain no gain, kickass, push passed pain barriers, get the job done no matter what etc etc...but how good at stopping are you? Emptying your mind of all thought of 'doing' and just being. It feels awesome to do so! Don't run your battery to empty, you only get one of them π
~ Golden Rooster Stands on One Leg ~
Balance, strength & calm. Practice quietening the mind in the classic stance from the Tai Chi form. Follow the basics in the video and keep that kneed high. If you wobble, GREAT! It means you a leaning so keep going and enjoy wobbling less and less. If it's easy, just hold it for longer! Then time it for the same on the opposite side. But see if you can stay balanced in mind as well as body. We practice for a strong mind. Enjoy! π

~ Finding stillness of mind and body can be one of the most difficult aspects of Tai Chi practice ~
I was so impressed with the quietness of body and mind emanating from the students this morning that I took this photo! Superb focusπ€π
Stillness and quietness can be incredibly hard for us due to the noise of circus of our everyday lives. This is why we practice seated meditation in every class. To return us to the here and now. It is simply a practice and the more we practice the better we get! πβ‘
~ Some calm after online Kung Fu with Sifu ~
You don't need to light a candle or some incense for meditation but it can certainly help set your intention. Like a little ritual, as you say to yourself for next next 5, 10, 20 minutes "I am going to stop and sit". Have a great Friday.
~ Enjoy & Good Luck with your grading with Sifu today ! ~
All TaiChi24 students have done brilliantly looking in depth at starting posture, ward off and Peng along with working on your silent practice and being in the present moment...plus all the principles of tai chi we look at along the way. Enjoy your time with Sifu ππ
