TRIP's approach to Wimbledon exemplifies this idea; they may not be an *official* sponsor, but that doesn't mean they can't do it in their own way.

All you need?

✍️ A slogan that is relevant and on-brand: see TRIP's "The unofficial sponsors of Britain's calmest queue"

🧋Your product: grab a bag full of freebies to give away- don't just tell people how great you are, let them find out for themselves!

Another ingenious billboard example from Specsavers👓

Why is this simple copy so effective? Because it capitalises on a psychological fact about the human brain. Humans remember words in "chunks", so some words are stored together as units in our brain. For example, if you are a native English speaker and somebody says "that's a blessing in...", you will likely finish that sentence in your head with "disguise"🧠

The same is true of this billboard; you finish it in your head before you even complete the sentence. The copywriter knows that readers will assume that the sentence reads "We look forward to seeing you" before realising their error and chuckling. The implication, then, is that you have made a mistake and therefore need glasses🥸

Clever advertising doesn't have to be complicated- you just need to understand your audience!

What exactly is a 𝗦𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗰 𝗜𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘆?🔊

A sonic identity, sometimes known as "audio branding", is a combination of sonic elements that are embedded in brand communications alongside visual components.

Sounds elicit emotional responses, and businesses can harness this by tying sounds to their brand. Over time, mental associations between sound and brand become automatic, and the simplest sonic element will trigger a person's memory (you'd recognise Netflix's iconic "ta-dum" anywhere, wouldn't you?).

A brand's sonic identity can be made up of:

🔔 Jingles
🎤 Voiceovers
🔊 Sound effects

1. Gymshark's kettlebell bags, seen at the opening of their new Stratford store. It's a simple but effective design that will capture the attention of passers by. This design is a part of their wider "We do gym" campaign, created to help increase brand awareness and affinity🏋️
2. VITHIT X Among Equals billboards. We're huge fans of the double billboard technique, and this is a great example of how to optimise it🍊
3. McVitie's "We're a cake you biscuit" Jaffa Cakes campaign. An excellent design that exemplifies the value of social listening; McVitie's tapped into a national debate and settled it themselves🍰

What makes an excellent graphic designer?

Resilience.

As any experienced designer will know, it is not uncommon for a design to get sent back and forth tens of times with tweaks before the client is satisfied. This process can feel disheartening for the designer who has worked hard to create something they feel proud of.

"Cheap enough to say, Phuket I'll go."- Fly AirAsia ✈️

In this campaign, Bevan Lewis and Lars Vester capitalised on the common mispronunciation of Phuket ("poo-ket" is the correct Thai pronunciation but "fu-ket" is often used by non-natives). With this cheeky ad, they aimed to appeal to a younger, more adventurous audience and position AirAsia as a fun and modern airline. By leveraging such a bold innuendo, they gained the interest of those interested in spontaneous, low-cost travel (primarily backpackers and young, middle-income families)🗺️

The billboard design was vibrant and uncomplicated, which meant that it was both eye-catching and easily readable for passing drivers and pedestrians. By keeping the colour palette simple and focusing on their iconic bright red, they strengthened mental associations between budget flights + AirAsia.

Our favourite part? This is an Australian OOH campaign from 2008. Sixteen years on, the wordplay is still just as effective🏆

Yeah, logos are important. But they are only one part of a brand's visual identity. Typography, colours, shapes, patterns, imagery, and graphics should all combine together to make a cohesive and instantly recognisable brand identity⚡

When designing the custom typeface for the 2024 Olympic Games, French designer Elliot Amblard decided to ditch the standard sans fonts in favour of something far more exciting. The bespoke font draws inspiration from the Art Deco movement of the 1920s in a tribute to the last Olympics held in Paris exactly a century ago. Amblard's design has also been deliberately constructed in a way that limits the amount of paper and ink needed for print materials as well as the power consumption required for digital media💡

The Paris 2024 Olympics are already proving to be ground-breaking in every way, from their outdoor (and free!) opening ceremony along the river Seine, to their accessible celebration venues in which medal winners will be invited to meet and celebrate with their fans. It only makes sense that their visual brand identity represents the essence of the event by being equally as bold🎨

We know great brand design when we see it, and the Paris Olympics team have aced theirs🏆

Paris 2024 is a brand just like any other; years of hard work have gone into the creation of their branding, including their logo, custom font, and mascot. And we happen to think it looks pretty great.

What makes this logo so special is that, for the first time ever, the emblem is shared by both the Olympic and Paralympic Games. In an unprecedented move, Paris have made it clear that accessibility and togetherness are cornerstones of these games.

The simple logo is comprised of three key elements:

🏅 The Gold Medal- a symbol of opportunity; Olympic gold is available to all who dare to try.
🔥 The Olympic Flame- an icon that represents the near century-old tradition. The flame of Olympia has been present at every Summer Olympics since 1928.
👄 Marianne- an homage to French heritage, Marianne is considered to personify the French Republic. She also represents humanism, generosity, fraternity, and sharing; values that underpin these Olympic Games.

The elements combine together beautifully to represent the essence of the games, while clever use of negative space ensures that the emblem remains uncomplicated. Great design work will communicate a complex concept in the simplest way possible. This logo clean and minimalistic, and yet representative of centuries of French culture and community spirit.

When creating logos for our clients, we always emphasise the importance of simplicity in relation to scalability; an intricate logo is no good if it won't scale well. In their mock-ups, Paris show just how well their logo scales without losing communicative value or iconicity.

This campaign by Oatly campaign demonstrates the value of bold and unapologetic marketing. The concept is simple but impactful- by publishing their own climate footprint numbers and challenging dairy manufacturers to do the same, they advertise their advantage over their competitors.

Great campaigns are often very niche, and only focus on one aspect of the product. Here, there is no mention of the taste or even the quality of the product itself; instead, they focus on their environmental ethics alone. They imply that dairy products cause more harm to the environment than their plant-based alternatives and, in doing so, they appeal to the conscience of their audience and ask them to be mindful of the this fact when making purchasing decisions.

Visually, the content is striking. Oatly's brand imagery is always very simple, bold, and usually monochrome. They always manage to get their point across in a way that is both clear and concise- in just two simple sentences, they say all that needs to be said. The copy is uncomplicated and fearless, and it communicates their brand message effectively, while the simple Oatly carton graphic reinforces brand recognition. An incredibly simple yet well thought out piece of advertising.
