All looking very cosy and festive this winter.

It is our lovely little pub on the edge of the Old Knebworth estate, so plenty of lovely walks around it. It is a perfect place for a home cooked meal and pint of craft ale (with lots of festive brew on tap).

CHARITY UPDATE - we have been a major contributor to this incredible house helping young homeless people in Hertfordshire. Thanks to our guests for helping us make this happen through their donations to StreetSmart. With it set to be a challenging winter ahead we look forward to supporting this amazing charity once again.

Herts Young Homeless – Future Roots Project

Using a 6-bedroom house rented from Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council, the charity is creating a home to help transition vulnerable young people, aged 18 to 24 years old, from homelessness to independent living.

These are predominantly young people who are leaving supported accommodation such as hostels.

The aim of the project is to help each young person achieve the social and financial stability and the necessary level of confidence and emotional maturity that they need to live independently.

A live-in Support Worker provides advice, guidance and support to assist these young people to overcome the emotional, social and practical issues they face, and which prevent them from achieving sustainable independence.
Our grant last year paid for carpeting throughout the entire house, providing a comfortable environment for the young residents.

We know how hard everyone works across ACI fulfilling our mission of making people happy. On top of that many of our team are completing qualifications at the same time.

James our Managing Director has graduated his MBA from with Distinction. This has involved more than 2 years of study, countless projects, essays and presentations (including a module on Crisis during the Covid crisis). He put in a huge effort and has been bringing his learnings back to the business, having successfully managed to persuade his group to do most of the assignments on the hospitality industry!

Congrats also to Phil, commis chef who passed his college course at with distinction.

Well done 👏

Megan and her mega watt smile. Megan joined us in 2017 as a member of the front of house team. She has risen up the ranks and is now Assistant General Manager at the very same pub.

During that time she has played a key role on how the pub has developed, winning repeat recognition from AA inspectors and Michelin Guide alike for the friendly bar, cosy rooms and impressive restaurant.

She has also helped us raise lots of money for and shone in our ACI Rising Stars development program. She is a total star.

Thanks Megan and congrats on this throughly deserved promotion.

Wow we are well on our way to raising £2k for

Our proceeds from coffee sales during Peace Awareness Week plus your donations on the “tapper” at the till have all gone straight to this phenomenal charity.

They are doing superhuman work out there right now, the money to being used to by the most urgent supplies that they need in the hospital. Follow to see where the money is going.

The tapper is still with our team so please keep giving generously

Amazing generosity from lots of businesses and people in the town, we came together to try and raise £10k for the medical supplies they need and I think together we must be very close.

Thanks for helping us take this pic of our little cups, they have done a lot of good. 🇺🇦 ❤️

The very first rays of sunshine feel wonderful. Time for us to dust off the beach huts and outside bars across all of our pubs as we get ready for outdoor drinks and dining.

We especially love the beach huts

It feels like every day is International Women’s Day around here. We have so many wonderful women who run and put huge amounts of love and care into it.

These are just a few, most of us are called Charlotte!

(Left to right) Charlotte Cherry, Charlie Brimelow, Izzy, Charlotte Jego and Charli (swipe across it’s like a Charlotte flip book!).

Thank you to you wonderful women for all that you do now. Thank you to our General Manager Gill who has so far dodged the camera (we will get you next time 😉) our matriarch Carol who has been at the helm of service here for over 2 decades, Ellené who makes our interiors so beautiful and to all the women that went before us (Jackie, Nicky the list goes on) not to forget the men who stand proudly shoulder to shoulder and recognise our contribution every step of the way.

Some brunch classics being given the finishing touches.

We love a great brunch date. It’s a perfect way to ease into the weekend, set you up for the day or recall memories of the night before over a Bloody Mary.

Happy brunching this weekend everyone.

Going, going, gone. Surely this view out across the fields of Old Knebworth is one of the best spots for a thirst quencher.

If you haven’t been it’s a great pub right on the edge of the Old Knebworth estate surrounded by wonderful walks. It’s a perfect pub for catching up with friends, spending time with family or providing much needed nourishment (& refreshment) after a good long stroll.

The team have a lot of fun with their beer selection featuring guest beers from favourite breweries.

Pop over and say hi.

An update about our sites.

What is happening out there? We are sitting here in shock. In our 25 year history never did we think we would have to be composing this message, or anything close to it. These are unprecedented times. We are bracing ourselves for the impact of recent announcements and as an independent family run business, we are having to take extraordinary measures in extraordinary times to protect our customers, our team and our business.

It is with a heavy heart that, from tonight, we have decided to close down public spaces in our business but some specific services will remain open, including rooms. This will include Mothers’ Day on this coming Sunday which should be a special celebration but it involves many of the most vulnerable and with all the disruption, there is no other option than to postpone it to a safer date. Weddings and private events we will host for as long as we are able to.

We know that pubs and restaurants are a vital part of our communities, which we need more now than ever, so we are looking at different ways in which we can still contribute. From deliveries to takeaways and other services, we are looking to continue to support our communities at this hour of need. More details will follow as we forge our ideas - we are lucky to have brilliant people devising some awesome plans. In all this chaos, we believe that kindness will prevail.

We would to thank everyone who has been in touch and offered to help so far. Your support means more to us than ever during these testing times. The decisions we have made have not been taken lightly and have been down to doing what is best in the public interest and protecting our staff the amazing people who give so much to this business. We are doing everything we can to avoid job losses and stand behind them through the stormy times ahead.

So thank you. Thank you for your loyalty over the years. Thank you for bearing with us while we get our heads round what is happening. Thank you for your understanding and patience. Corona will pass. We will reopen and we will come back stronger than ever. We look forward to seeing you to raise a glass here at one of our sites once this is all behind us.
