My question is always โwhy is that so cheapโ when buying oils โฆ itโs critically important when working with the animals. Quality definitely counts
In 2001, I had one of my first introductions to the world of essential oil adulteration. I visited a large essential oil broker in France. When I visited their lab, they told me they could produce whatever kind of lavender oil I wanted. I told them that I wanted whatever lavender essential oil came from the plants in the fields. My assumption at the time was that lavender oil only came from lavender plants. I did not realize how wrong that assumption was.
The producers in France assured me that they could produce a lavender โessential oilโ that fit any aromatic profile and chemical profile I wanted. The price point could be determined in the lab. This was done by adding synthetic molecules to extend the oil or even natural components isolated from less expensive plant material.
I was devastated to realize the extent of essential oil adulteration in the industry at the time. This was unacceptable to me, and I vowed to do better.
At doTERRA, we are fanatical about ensuring that our essential oils are pure and unadulterated. It takes more work and more resources to do this, but it is absolutely worth it. Adulterated essential oils are ineffective at best, and dangerous at worst. Sadly, adulteration is even more rampant today. We have tested a plethora of lavender oils currently available on the market and have found that 80% of them are adulterated and those that are not adulterated are typically very low quality, which means they wonโt provide the results you would expect from lavender. This terrifies me to think that an good-intentioned mother might be putting an adulterated lavender on her child not knowing the harm it could cause. I want every mother to feel safe using pure and tested essential oils to benefit her children.
Over the next few weeks I hope to show you why this oil is so special and how we work tirelessly to ensure that we .

Rose is one of my personal favourite oils โฆ yes this oil is not cheap but wow is it beautiful- this is whyโฆ
The power of rose oil in supporting animals who have experienced trauma is phenomenal I witness such deep healing with my animal clients who select rose in their sessions.
Recently I participated in a meditation group led by Felicity Warner the author of Sacred Oils and the session working with Rosa Damascena was one of my favourites.

The right thing to do.
Horses, not to humanise them of course, are just like us in the way they cope with pain. Some of them react quite quickly to tell us something is wrong, others are very stoic and show no real signs. Part of my job is to look for patterns; is it always the same joint that is restricted? Is the tension always in exactly the same place? Whilst there might be an improvement after treatment, could there be some underlying condition causing pain? As a therapist we are not allowed to diagnose and so a referral to your veterinarian for a diagnosis and to discuss treatment options may be necessary.
This week I have had my share of vet referrals, 4 to be exact, and lovely owners who have immediately taken their horses to the vets. After one of these, the horseโs trainer called me out and said โI donโt know what's going on but something isโ. One treatment and a biomechanics session (to see how it moved on the lunge and under saddle) later and I too was scratching my head, letโs ask the Vet who said youโre right but Iโm scratching my head let's do a bute trial. Another horse has a condition that has ended its ridden career. The last two have conditions that are only going to progress and get worse and those two owners have made the ultimate decision.
So if you have a good physiotherapist, chiropractor, or any other professional and they say โlet's refer to the Vetโ, we donโt do it lightly as we know it will result in extra cost and possible expensive treatment protocols.
If you have any issues or questions about your horse please donโt hesitate to ask us we are always happy to help.
Itโs the right thing to do.
Interestingly โฆ I had exactly this conversation at the weekend โฆ
We often hear that removing equines from grass is unnatural, but the problem is that unlike the meadow pictured here, which is full of a huge variety of grasses and other plants/ vegetation, most pastures/ meadows are very monocultured or at best containing just five modern species of grasses, all of which have been cultivated for the use of putting on weight or milk production, the incidence of laminitis and foot rot in modern farming livestock is appalling and it is absolutely rife now in the equine industry.
With meadows that are full of variety of flora you have a huge range of root systems that go to different levels in the substrates and give a wider variety of bit/ minerals.
So if you want grazing for your equine then make sure that you are not subjecting them to modern limited species grazing which will make them ill.
If you have no choice then you have to make sure that they move enough, which means generally far more movement than you think, so that they use up the excess energy gained from the grazing they are exposed to.
A fabulous idea the cottage is beautiful โฆ.
Zoopharmacognosy can really help animals adapt .. chamomile and lavender are too of my favourite oils. Dried German chamomile is also often selected by horses .. why not book an appointment to discover how you can help your horse ๐ชด

The beauty of zoopharmacognosy is it helps us answer the question ๐
Iโve had a couple of enquiries recently re dogs peeing or pooing indoors.. ๐
Iโve been asked how can I be so confident that we can resolve this issue in less than 24 hours, usually immediately? ๐
The answer is because we innerstand the primal reasons for this behaviour & via our APEs trauma recovery process, using our unique neurological development techniques we meet the primal, biological, mental & emotional needs of the dog as an individual..๐
Itโs not magic but it can appear that way ๐คฉ

Fascinating facts for those whose horses can seemingly โlive on fresh airโ aka the โgood doerโ ๐ค
Where has all the grass gone?...
โBut there isnโt any grass on the fieldโฆโ We hear these words a lot at this time of year, from the exasperated owners of fat horses fighting what sometimes seems like a losing battle with their horsesโ weight.
Have you ever wondered why horses on a seemingly bare paddock can still gain weight?
It is worth keeping in mind, the picture of the un-grazed side of the field below. Of course, it can be very difficult for owners to monitor what a horse is taking in, but one thing is certain: when that side of the field is full of horses, it wonโt look like this! That grass would be nipped off as soon as it poked up high enough to be nibbled!
Sarah Stoneham BVSc Cert ESM MRCVS gives this very good explanation of the problem which helps us to understand and monitor the amount of grass that the horse is consuming.
โUK grass growth figures (grass check GB) indicate that over the last week (ending 16.5.22), average grass growth in the north west has been high. At the moment a small well-managed paddock, the size of a 40x20m dressage arena will be producing an average of 22.5kg of grass per day. The dry matter content of grass is currently only 20% which means it is 80% water, so a 40x20m area produces 4.5 kg of grass on a dry matter basis each day.
This has a calorie content similar to 4.5 kg of a conditioning hard feed. The grass is also high in sugar, 17.1% on average last week. So, the 4.5 kg of grass on a dry matter basis will contain approximately 770g of sugar!
If your paddock is still looking as bare as it did earlier this year it is because your horse has eaten all the new grass each day.โ
So, where has all the grass gone?... its inside the horse!
Currently, the accumulation of amyloid-beta peptide as plaque, the deposition of neurofibrillary tangles in brain cells (due to hyperphosphorylation of tau protein), massive cholinergic brain cell death, oxidative stress, and brain inflammation are considered the major causes of Alzheimerโs disease. The hippocampusโthe area of the brain associated with memory, feelings, thoughts, personality, and behaviorโis most vulnerable to these alterations.
Stem cell-based therapy has emerged as a potential solution for AD in the past few years due to positive results in preclinical trials. Researchers evaluated the benefits of ingesting rosemary CT 1,8-cineole essential oil in conjunction with stem cell therapy in a preclinical model of AD. Combined stem cell therapy and rosemary oil significantly enhanced learning and memory, reduced brain inflammation, improved antioxidant activity (CAT, GSH, and SOD), and reduced the expression of genes associated with the deposition of amyloid-beta plaque and the death of brain cells. The research suggests that rosemary oil can improve stem cell therapy and together they can reduce or reverse many of the key pathways that lead to the occurrence and progression of AD.
