I savoured this month’s Waterstones Nonfiction Book of the Month, and it was a wonderful little bonus to see that it includes a discussion of J.L. Carr’s A Month in the Country. I would wholeheartedly recommend this book.
Have you met Evelyn Hugo?
I’m certainly ready for our next meeting on 29 February. 😃

Our resident Jelly Cat Octopi wanted to let you know that copies of our January book, Remarkably Bright Creatures, have arrived.
I’ve heard so many great things about this book, so I’m looking forward to reading it.
⭐️⭐️⭐️Reminder⭐️⭐️⭐️
We hope to see you this Thursday night from 6:00 PM for our Christmas Evening.
Our Booksellers will be on hand to help you choose the perfect gifts for those on your list. 🎁
There will also be some festive treats. 😃
Thinking back to last night’s discussion about JL Carr’s A Month in the Country, I thought I’d share some lovely books we have about church buildings and architecture.
They’d make great Christmas gifts. What bookish things are on your list?

Poetry and Horrorstor
We’re currently sold out of October’s book, but more copies are on their way.
We spoke about poetry last week so I wanted to let you know we’ve created a special poetry display for National Poetry Day on 5 October. This year’s theme for the event is Refuge.
I hope to see you soon. I’ll post our Book Club recommendations later this week.
We’re delighted to announce that our October book is Horrorstor by Grady Hendrix.
I can’t wait to hear what you all think of this one. Can horror and humour mix? Absolutely. 👻

I hope you can join us tomorrow evening.

This is a sharp little scalpel of a book, isn’t it?
I finished it this weekend and I think there will certainly be plenty to discuss.
Word of warning: read the Introduction last. Spoilers! 🤦🏼♀️

📚Member Recommendations📚
Our Book Club Members recommended some fantastic books at yesterday’s meeting.
Marty has enjoyed Get Shorty by Elmore Leonard and High Fidelity by Nick Hornby.
Veronica recommends The Heart’s Invisible Furies by John Boyne.
Toni said Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin is the best book she’s read all year.
Waterstones staff recommended Winter’s Gifts by Ben Aaronovitch and The Book of the Earthworm by Sally Coulthard.
We’re certainly an eclectic bunch!
⭐️⭐️⭐️Our August Book⭐️⭐️⭐️
We had a great session last night discussing Fahrenheit 451. I hope to see you all on 31 August to chat about Paperboy!
For those who had to leave earlier - the winning book for September was The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie by Muriel Spark.
Hello from Helsinki!
I was able to find some Finnish versions of some of our previous Book Club selections. It’s fun to see familiar books in different formats.
I hope you’re all enjoying this month’s choice, Fahrenheit 451. 😃
