Carr Primary School
At Carr we use our unique position of being a small rural school to educate the children in an enriching family atmosphere.
The school motto ‘From small beginnings come great things’ embodies this vision.
Carr Choir on Tour
Yet another outstanding performance from our choir tonight at Drumbo Christmas Tree Light Switch On!!
Great night meeting Santa, enjoying a hot chocolate and watching the lights go on! Lovely seeing lots of past pupils too! Thanks to all who braved the bad weather to support us. 🎄 🎅

Well.....
Carl the Elf has certainly enjoyed his first week back at Carr Primary School. His farm machinery choices certainly didn't please everyone but his no work for P3/4 went down a treat! 🤣
I wonder what he could possibly get up to next week??
Wheelie Bin Challenge 🗑🗑🗑
Zara Live Here Love Here came to school today and taught us all about waste management.
This fun and interactive lesson definitely refocused our thinking on recycling and how as a school we could do more. The pupils had some great ideas which we will discuss further at the next Eco Committee meeting.
Did you know it can take up to 400 years for a plastic bottle to decompose and even then it never fully dissappear? 🤯

Rehearsals for our Christmas Shows are in full swing and today the Choir performed at Comber Care Home!
These are just two of the experiences and opportunities we provide for all children at Carr!
See you on Friday 8th December at 10.30-11.30am for our Open Day!
We had the great pleasure of going to Comber Care Home today where a selection of our choir sung to the residents.
It was a lovely afternoon with audience participation of the well known carols as well as showing off some of our new show pieces too.
Thank you to the pupils for their wonderful singing, parent helpers for lifts and to Comber Care Home for making us so welcome.
How proud we were of these guys tonight at the United Community Carol Service at Loughmoss. It's a big deal to get up on stage in front of all those people and our choir did a super job.
Well done to Carryduff Primary School and Millennium Primary School for equally brilliant singing!
Definitely feeling festive now ✨️

Just over a week to go until Open Day for Carr Pre and Primary School!
We hope to see you there on Friday 8th December from 10.30-11.30am 😊
We were a little surprised to receive a letter on Monday from the North Pole asking if Carl the Elf could return to Carr Primary this festive season.
If you remember his antics last year included ripping up our pantomine ticket, covering Mrs Buchanan's office in toilet paper, drawing all over the teachers pictures and tipping out all the dinner money, to name just a few!
However, in his letter he has apologised and said he will behave this year if we allow him back. In Carr we believe everyone can make mistakes and everyone deserves a second chance so Mrs Bryans wrote a reply letter you can read below.
I really hope we don't regret her decision!
A very interesting read at what can be a wonderful but also a difficult and stressful time of year.
Christmas can be a wonderful time of year filled with lots of celebrations and fun for families, but it can also be very stressful for many parents. Parents can feel the pressure of managing their children’s expectations alongside managing the financial stresses that the time of year brings. Here are our six tips for managing stress at Christmas.
P6 enjoyed a morning at Saintfield High School today. They made a Christmas craft, got a tour of the school and a tasty snack!
It was also lovely to get to chat to many of our past pupils, who all enjoyed reminiscing about their time at Carr Primary School. ❤️
This weekend it’s all about Carr Kids! Yesterday’s post was the starter…check it out if you haven’t already!
Today’s post is the main course!! This is a snapshot of all the clubs provided by Carr Kids over the course of ONE YEAR!!!
Clubs cost on average £3 per week - so lots of fun and a bargain as well!

Beautiful singing from our Christmas Choir today. Thank you to all who came, sang and supported us. Well done also to some of our pupils drumming in the band too!
Tomorrow sees our P7s complete their last SEAG test. How wonderful it will feel as you walk out of that hall and it's all behind you!
Every P7, regardless of sitting the test or not, have worked their socks off these last few months. We at Carr Primary School are extremely proud of you and your families for the dedication, perseverance and resilience shown.
Each of you are amazing, we don't need a test to tell us that. Now go, get it done x
📖📖 World History comes to Carr 📖📖
The Geneva Bible, thought to date back to 1615, was brought into school today by Rev. David McLaughlin. This Bible was the first mechanically printed Bible.
He told the children all about its exciting history and how it travelled with Elizabeth Pole from England to Massachusetts in 1633 and how it made its way to Northern Ireland in the 1990s. It more recently sold for 20,000 at an auction and the people who purchased it kindly allow it to be taken into schools and shown to pupils.
Amazing how it is in such good condition. The children were fascinated by it and had the opportunity to ask lots of questions.
Thank you for bringing it into school and for sharing its long and very interesting history.
I was delighted to receive this email this evening!
Congratulations to Aislinn who won second place in the Mayor’s Remembrance Day competition 🎨🎨
An exhibition of all the entries is running at the Island Arts Centre until the 30th November 🖼️

For the past two days, Mrs Bryans has been undergoing Mental Health First Aid training.
In the same way that being a first aider doesn’t make you a nurse or a doctor, being a mental health first aider doesn’t make you a counsellor or psychiatrist.
However, by doing this intense course she hopes to be able to support mental health issues and signpost help and support for the children and adults in our school family!
Every day’s a school day!
New Skills at Carr!
Cricket coaching started for Key Stage 2 as part of our physical education. Throwing and catching was the main skill today, thankfully using light weight plastic balls!
Most children had never played cricket so this was a great introduction and everyone seemed to love it!! 🏏
We would love to welcome you to our Open Day at Carr Primary School. If you require further information call 028 92638615

To Our P7 Class of 2023/24
It is the night before the first SEAG test.
1. You've got this
2. You are ready
3. You are awesome (we don't need a test to tell us that!)
4. Breathe and just do your best
We are so proud of you all (if you are doing or not doing the test!) Each of one you have put in the work, learnt new things and most of all, given your best effort these last few months.
This is not easy stuff (parents I challenge you all to do a SEAG test and see how you score - your kids are amazing!
https://seagni.co.uk - if you want to download one.)
Let's get this done - sleep well and absolutely no stressing allowed!
Mayor's Remembrance Art Competition 2023.
KS2 had a great morning completing an online art competition run by Mayor of Lisburn Councillor Andrew Gowan - Downshire East.
The children, led by Sinead McDermott/ The Art and Design Factory, created a Monet inspired landscape picture to include a field of poppies.
It was amazing to see how each picture developed as the children used different techniques demonstrated by Sinead.
The Mayor himself even popped into school to see how our art work was progressing!
The end result was 36 unique masterpieces. 🎨 Each painting was very much in their own individual, artistic style but with the common theme of poppies and remembrance.

Peace Proms 2024 starts here…our first rehearsal at the SSE Arena with hundreds of other children from right across NI!
Lots of songs and dance moves to learn 🕺🎶🕺
Nice to get some figures from AR about the progress of all pupils since September 2023. We are delighted to see such great achievements from the pupils in P4-P7.
November and December are very busy months but keep a focus on reading if you can. Let's try to achieve even more next time!
We are not all natural readers and that's why we love AR as our targets are set individually and we can all achieve success at our own levels.
Well done
Harvest Service 2023
What a turnout! It was really lovely to see you all this morning to celebrate harvest with us.
Every child in the school was on the stage and we were incredibly proud of every one of them.
All food items have been packed up and will be donated to Ballynahinch Food Bank this week.
To those of you who donated to our sponsor children we are very grateful - this money will help these children receive an education for another year.
Enjoy half term and we will see you all back in school on Monday 6th November.
Twilight Parade Lisburn.
Great fun at the Lantern Parade through Lisburn and to Wallace Park this evening.
Lovely to be asked to attend by Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council. It is an event we all really enjoy!!
Remember tomorrow is PTA Coffee & Catch up from 9am, Parent Forum and then our Harvest Assembly after which the pupils will go home. Who is ready for half term?? 😴😴😜
