No Frills Cosmetics

In a bid to escape the worst of the rain we travelled further afield and did a 7 mile walk along the granite way. We sat for a rest half way watching buzzards. Not one but six enjoying the balmy air currents. Also saw dragon flies near the many ponds along the route. An awesome day. Thankyou to for telling us the best place to park and access it.

First day of the summer holidays and we haven't seen a soul. Why not? It's lovely in Cornwall!

My lovely Uncle, recently retired Professor of Gastroenterology has been having a clear out (no pun intended!). He has bequeathed me this brass Suppository Mould.
I has a chuckle to myself and reminisced about my training. I remember making Suppositories at college. Glycerin Suppositories were Easy and fun to see if they stuck to the ceiling! Mixing dye into zinc oxide with a theobroma oil base proved more difficult. If you didn't grind the zinc oxide and dye thoroughly, and mix into the theobroma oil (cocoa butter) at the right temperature it all sank to the bottom.

This was all a good base for my journey through manufacture of pharmaceuticals to manufacture of cosmetics. And interestly I still use cocoa butter. It is very versatile and extremely good for our skin. It hydrates and nourishes and helps form a protective barrier to lock in moisture.

Have you got any memories to share from your training?

I am gradually making the switch over to glass jars for my Moisturisers.

Although the airless dispensers were not single use and can be recycled, I feel uncomfortable about using them.

I'm very excited to be back in the finals of the Free From Skincare Awards 2023 with Ann's Natural Range, Natural Moisturiser (Moisturiser N with no essential oil). I formulated this for sensitive and problem skin whilst I was undergoing treatment for breast cancer.

I am a Pharmacy Technician by profession and have worked in Pharmaceutical Production for most of my career. Going back to my roots of non-sterile manufacturing enabled me to transfer my skills into the world of cosmetics.

This is why regulations are important and why small manufacturers like myself have to put a higher price than we would like on our products.

In addition to the research and development I carried out, my Moisturisers have a safety assessment and a preservative challenge test. This is in compliance with the cosmetics regulations.
I adhere to good manufacturing practice throughout the process.I use sterile water as part of the formula. I prefer to ro this rather than heating it at a certain temperature for a specified time. Water can be a major source of contamination and by using sterile water, it give me assurance that this starting material will not contaminate my product.

All ingredients I use are from reputable sources and technical data sheets are requested to ensure they are appropriate quality.

Moisturiser N natural with no essential oil

I am suffering with extremely sensitive eyes (and blepharatis) and yours is the only Moisturiser I can use.

Moisturiser N is a natural cream with no essential oils in. It contains cocoa butter and shea butter amongst it's ingredients. It has an aroma of cocoa!
