Morning , over the years we have had some financial kindness from unexpected quarters so as many of you will know the desperation of mental health circumstances having increased since lockdown and funding budgets dropping...again, I decided to try our crowd funding. I'm sorry to ask but perhaps you know someone who can help. Thanks!

Today is National Stress Awareness Day – time to monitor your stress and see what it is that gets you all in a tizzy. Spending too much time stressed out can harm your brain and body, so let’s take a few moments throughout the day for some mindfulness… 😌

Here is an article I wrote on the theme of being busy. Read through to understand why we feel the need to be so busy all the time, which only serves to up our stress levels 👇

Today is the day of ghosts and spooks, so what can you do to acknowledge your fears this Halloween? 🙀

1. Breathe – when you get scared, focus on slowing doing your breathing, which will slow down your heart rate.
2. Tell yourself some positive affirmations to ground you
3. Think of a place that makes you feel cosy and happy. Imagine yourself there now.

Remember, we all have our fears, and they are not often related to the supernatural. Sometimes it can be the fear of an important meeting going wrong, losing your job or getting ill.

We all have our coping techniques, but I would say it’s important to find your place of calm within. We can help you to do that at A Quiet Place.

Relaxing and unwinding is a tricky business when your life is full of frenetic activity, you’re up against deadlines or you’ve got a stressful event on the horizon.

Even when you’re sat down doing nothing, supposedly resting, you can still feel the tension in your mind and body, tiring you out.

To overcome this, here are my three ideas for you to try:

✨ Get out for a walk in nature

Nature’s greenery is relaxing and calming. It’s also good to move your body and relieve some of the physical tension 🌳

✨ Sit alone with your thoughts

Stress can build up because there’s so much going on and no time to process any of it. Perhaps on your walk, you could sit down on a bench for a while, or treat yourself to your favourite hot drink in a cosy café and be still with yourself for half an hour 💭

✨ Put on the tunes

Listening to music is an instant mood booster. Music gets you singing, dancing and generally feeling good. A fantastic way to get rid of the cobwebs and help you feel relaxed afterwards 🎶

The world of LinkedIn can get a bit crazy… ⚡️

My first tip to slow down the chaos of life is simply to stop. It’s fine to do nothing for a few minutes if you need to ✋

My next tip is to breathe. Take in a few calming deep breaths. Breathe in slowly, then out slowly. Count your breath in, then count your breath out to slow your heart rate and find some inner peace 😮‍💨‍

Finally, spend some time in a mindfulness activity. Meditating for ten minutes, colouring in or journaling are all great suggestions 🧘‍♀️

What are your tips for calming the chaos?

Did you know that eating saturated fats isn’t just bad for your heart and undesirable for your waistline, but it can actually inhibit learning and memory function? 😮

To have your brain working at its best, consider incorporating more Omega-3 into your diet ✔️

Include fish (mackerel, salmon, seabass, sardines) shellfish (prawns, oysters), chia seeds, flaxseeds, walnuts, edamame and kidney beans and foods fortified with Omega-3 such as some fruit juices and yoghurts. Also think about adding in an Omega-3 supplement 🐟 🥑🦐

Gen Z can handle stress – in fact they’re brave enough to say it’s unacceptable | Bruce Daisley 21/10/2022

Resilience is an important substance to have to face the world each day, but whether you have it or not is not the question.

Mental health support at work and school to lower stress is vital, and the power to say “Enough!” should be celebrated.

If you want an illustration of how a lack of workplace wellbeing can impact your bottom line, consider this. Over half of all work-related ill health cases were either stress, depression or anxiety in 2020-21, as reported by the Labour Force Study.

This is evidence that work-based interventions could improve conditions and lower the number of mental health cases at work.

Why is examining our mindset so important? 🤔

If we don’t take the time to explore our own character, capabilities, feelings and motivations, we risk projecting our interpretation of our world onto others, which may cause us problems in our everyday life, and will make helping others more difficult.

A Quiet Place helps you embark on this vital journey of self-discovery so we can understand more about how we think, act and behave – and why.

Start your mindset journey now with the guidance of our ebooks 📚

Today is World Mental Health Day – As such, we wanted to tell you a little about what we do here at A Quiet Place to support young people’s mental health.

Each day many children attend school with the weight of the world on their shoulders. They bring their worries from home: perhaps their parents’ relationship has broken down, maybe they’ve lost someone close to them, or they’re dealing with trauma.

Instead of leaving school premises to access children’s mental health services, they get to stay where it’s safe and familiar. They can leave their classrooms for a little while or a longer while if need be, to attend A Quiet Place. Here they can speak with one of our trained facilitators, engage in a mindfulness activity, or simply sit down in a peaceful calming environment.

Mental health programmes should be for all, whatever your age or life experience 💖

Even the most inspired person in the world can get stuck in a rut. If you accomplish lots and have an abundance of ideas, but you’re constantly repeating the same tasks or cycles, you’ll get bored, and prolonged boredom can lead to burnout. That’s good for no one!

How do you break out of the rut? Try something different. How about a new genre of book, a hobby you’ve just discovered or visiting a place you’ve never been to before?

Our children and young people deserve the best conditions for success at school. While we can’t take away all their life’s problems, we can make schools a safe place for them to feel more at ease. This way, they can concentrate better on their school work and so their opportunities beyond the school gates don't feel limited.

A Quiet Place is this safe space for the schools we work in.
