Glass Onion

A massive thank you to all those that came to visit us last week and see what we’ve done with the place. We got great feedback but we’re not standing still.

We’ll be launching our Autumn menu soon, some old favs and some new dishes.

We will be curating an improved wine, beer and drinks menu that you can enjoy with us or take home.

The cafe is now better designed for your own events so speak to us about hosting your celebrations, meetings or community events.

… and plenty more to come.

But it’s all about making it a great place for our customers and team so please continue to give us feedback.

Not entirely sure how we managed it but the refresh of our entrance area is complete! On Friday, it was still an empty shell but the team (Harry, Joe and Bob) pulled an absolute blinder and got it boxed in time. With a load of help from the Glass Onion team, we will be ready for business in the morning (Tuesday 27th). Coffees and drinks to get us started from 8.30, food will be prepped in real time so some of our favourites might not be available until a little later in the morning.

To all our customers, a reminder that we will be closed for one week after Sunday 18th August while we give the place a refresh. All going well (fingers very much crossed!), we will be re-open on Tuesday 27th. We will be open as normal on Sunday 18th so do come and say a temporary ‘adieu’ to us.

The refresh has been a big decision for the team. Hospitality remains a tough industry to be in and very few independent businesses in this and other sectors make much profit (if any), and making a chunky investment is always a risk.

However, making some critical changes and giving the place a refresh is what we have all wanted to do for many months and we’ve decided to go for it. We go back to why we do what we do, and whilst we try to avoid making a loss, we are not in it for the big money. We do it because we love serving our customers and community, we love being part of a bustling independent business community and contributing to the continual improvement of Allerton Road and Liverpool as a whole.

Our team work incredibly hard because of this love for the service we provide, and next week offers a little time away from the daily tasks… although there will be some training and some hands on support to help us get to the re-opening on Tuesday 27th.

While we are closed, we hope our customers will support other independent businesses in the area but please do come back when we re-open. We would love to get your feedback on the changes.

We will let the changes bed in for a week or so and then launch our Autumn (already!!) menu.

Exciting times…. we are giving our cafe a refresh and moving things around. We are planning to re-open on Tuesday 27th August after which you will definitely notice some differences.

Lime and coconut cake on the counter. Feels like summer even if the weather doesn’t!

So this person in a hoodie (and a yellow strap over their shoulder) walked in the cafe today and stole the staff tips. Very brazen.

We’ll make sure the money is topped up but it’s the last thing small businesses need. Local businesses: keep an eye on your valuables. I don’t think there is a crime wave under way but an opportunistic thief may keep on going until caught.

Finally, the baskets can come out. Massive thank you to for their support in brightening up our cafe

On Saturday 11th May.. although the sun will be shining, there will be a little shadow cast at the Glass Onion. Our one and only Olly, barista, server, kitchen assistant extraordinaire, cheeky chappie and all round top guy, will be working his last shift for The Glass Onion before he heads off to Montana for the summer. He won't be back this time as he's then heading down south to his Bristol roots. His wit, charm, terrible jokes, top talent and warm nature will be missed by us all.

It’s feeling more and more like spring, and our spring-summer menu is making a splash. In addition to our old favourites, we’ve got new salads, mezze, tarts, new wraps and sandwiches to tickle your fancies 😍

Spring is in the air and our spring/summer menu is starting to drop. Today, we launch our Italian Sandwich: Tomato, Mozzeralla, Rocket and our homemade Pesto…. all on artisan bread. Super fresh!!
