Some things you can do to reduce direct sessions are:
1️⃣ Use an attribution tool to track customer journeys in full and attribute to the correct source
2️⃣ Migrate to HTTPS as any sessions to a non-secure page via secure page won't be attributed properly
3️⃣ Use UTM tags and parameters for more details on how users engage with your site
4️⃣ Redirect any vanity URL so they link to parameter urls
