Soundhouse Studio Liverpool UK is a first class hybrid recording facility. We provide our clients with the best of analogue and the best of digital so for this record label and Grammy winning engineer album project we’re all set up to go straight to 2 inch 24 track tape for drums and bass. Running at 15ips the second harmonic and natural compression makes the snare, kick, toms and bass sound truly awesome. I make no apology for saying tape sim plug ins don’t come close. After all that analogue goodness we drop back onto Pro Tools at 96k. An iconic 1987 SSL 6k E/G console front end, top class mics, outboard and iconic reverbs and fx (including a 1961 EMT stereo reverb plate ) are all making a serious contribution to what is going to be an amazing album. It was an absolute pleasure to welcome the amazing 4 time Grammy winner Robbie Nelson to Soundhouse Studio Liverpool for the third time this year. Great to see Bria Keely (Better Joy) and Andy Dunbar of Travis on this session. It was a great session.

PS. In case you didn’t know I’m letting the cat out of the bag when I say Andy is an accomplished piano forte player as well as an extremely creative guitarist and he gave our grand a little work out. Nice one man 👍 Impressive!!!!

So after 4 times Grammy winning engineer Robbie Nelson and the iconic producer Mike Hedges its Grammy winning Jim Lowe with a discography as long as your arm coming to Soundhouse Studio Liverpool to track an album. We’ll let you know who the band is once we get permission to do a reveal. Suffice to say we’re attracting some very very Very big legends for sure!

I thought long and hard about posting this but I think it has something we can learn from so here goes!!!!!!!!!

Yesterday a lovely McMillan specialist nurse Vicky Kinsley got in touch to ask if we could help Peter tick off one of his “must do” moments (( Pete used the words “bucket list “ and right there is that amazing courage in the face of inevitability ) so we set aside time to remember we are all human beings. ……..Here then is the central message……….

It’s not about the studio or the team but about music being a gift. We are on a one way road, and we get on and come off that road at different times and places but it is still that one highway we must all try to negotiate. I personally believe that the gifts we are given need to be shared so it’s not always just about earning a living as professionals but that sometimes we should share our talents freely and abundantly with and for those who need it the most.

Peter you are an inspiration and quite frankly you have given back more than we have given you today. Therefore please consider this a tribute to you and your lovely wife Sue. (Of course we did ask if you wished us to post as we do with all our artistes and you were very positive that we should) Today we have seen love, devotion, courage, honour, strength and resilience all in the face of the most difficult and adverse circumstances AND it was all done sporting a genuine smile. We saw the light you carry and the dedication of McMillan nurses and it’s a wake up call that happiness, love and life are the most valuable things we have. Thank you and Godbless.

An amazing 3 day session at Soundhouse Studio Liverpool UK - Russ Cottier flying the iconic SSL console- creating a song from scratch with Samuel Evanson, songwriter and singer. This was a totally “in house” project with a quality retro feel. Think we can expect lots from this creative professional combination. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A great live session broke out at Soundhouse Studio Liverpool today with Geoff, Simon, Andy, Alistair and Martin and legendary Dave P flying the iconic SSL console. A kind of fusion genre which spans several styles but refuses to be pigeon holed. 😎

Another piece of iconic kit ( an original Ampex pre amp ) arrives at Soundhouse Studio Liverpool UK. It will now be fully tested and modified for use as a top draw valve pre amp. Can’t wait to test it out against our other amazing kit. Based upon feedback and ballistic upward movement of price I think it’s going to be special. Of course you could go for a plug in ????? 😜 If you know you know !!!

Every time I say there is no more room in the racks 🤦‍♂️ The client guides what we provide in our facility. Those clients have been iconic legends of the industry so………….Three new units ( Stamchild 670 mk1 / Stam “Fullchild 4 stereo pultecs in one unit / SA 1176 ) AND a 670 mk2 on back order with delivery in November.….. and yes we have had to pull draws from our units to fit them in!!!!! Worth it though! If you know you know. If you don’t, you don’t need us 😂

Today we had the pleasure of recording Roy Locke ( Opera and former Phantom in Lloyd Webber’s Pantom of the Opera as well as lead roles in Les Miserable) at Soundhouse Studio Liverpool. The vocal chain was:- Telefunken valve U47 - Neve 8801 channel strip - Stamchild 670 Mk1 - Pro Tools - SSL 6000 E/G. Damn that all worked so well. Creamy rich yet vibrant detailed controlled natural sound. Roy made an important observation. As a classical singer he dislikes compression intensely but I slipped the Stamchild 670 into the chain. When I asked him to comment he said he couldn’t hear the compression at all. Now I know it was in there doing it’s stuff ( I could see it moderating the peaks) but to all intense and purpose it was transparent apart from an added layer of depth!!!!! A perfect choice of kit. This is the second classical voice recording we’ve done in a month and I’m totally sold on the choice of gear.

A new addition to our mic locker. A vintage 1961 Neumann Fet 47 and two 1950-60s AKG D20s aka Ringo Starr Abbey Rd kick mic choice every time. Why two I hear you ask?? Well that’s because we have two fully set up and mic’d kits (Ludwig 1969 in the main room and a Tama in the stone room ) and need one for each. That extends to a second Fet 47 but the one in the photo is serious vintage.

Ok so we already have our 760 mk1 (it’s amazing and more than a Fairchild) We have the Mk2 670 coming in November. Based upon how good the 760 performed on a major album with 4 times Grammy winning (7 nominations ) Robbie Nelson, and the legendary producer Mike Hedges we have just ordered all of the rest of the hybrids in the photos. Should be in on their return so exciting for sure. A total hats off to Josh Stam and how good his units are. Everyone was amazed by the quality during the session. We were going to acquire an original 1176 this week to sit next to our 1178 but on sound quality there was nothing to lose on sound quality and a major saving going through Stam route. No brainer! This just gives us a massive boost to benefit our clients. Win win situation.

At Soundhouse Studio Liverpool UK we’ve been privileged to be chosen as the facility to work with 4 times Grammy winner Robbie Nelson and Bria Keely from the band Better Joy. It’s an absolute sonnet of an album so keep an ear out for it. I’m fairly sure it’s going to make major waves. Some beautiful and some downright unashamedly catchy hook laden music. Think it’s coming out soon. Honestly….!!! Go get it!

Test time for our -arrived this morning- Stamchild Mk1 670. It won’t be sitting here for long and will need a proper rack space but to get it on the album “needs must when the devil drives!”

And so our Stamchild mk1 670 has arrived at Soundhouse Studio Liverpool UK. It’s going into the control room for action immediately for the album being mixed by 4 times Grammy winning engineer Robbie Nelson and legendary producer Mike Hedges.

A very nice piece of kit arriving by Friday at Soundhouse Studio Liverpool UK. So what can I say about the 670? If you know you know…. And if you don’t ?? Find out! It’s this kind of commitment to world class iconic gear that has major labels coming back to us again and again.

A bit complicated but we are once again privileged to have 4 times Grammy winning engineer Robbie Nelson back again with the legendary Mike Hedges producing.

As a treat I said I’d get them a 670 and was let down by a supplier so Stam Audio in Chile stepped in to help. The problem was they had a waiting list until November for the mk2 so……. they supplied us at short notice with a mk1 ( as close to the original Fairchild 670 as you can get) and are also sending us a 670 mk2 in November so we will have them both. They where so helpful and even sent us a quick peak inside whilst they were setting up and matching the valves and transistors. Our only problem is that the units are 4 and 6 unit respectively and with 18 valves in each we have some work to do accommodating in our already packed racks .

When the Senior Mastering Engineer at Metropolis -Barry Grint- who is credited with Aha – Take On Me and more recently Dua Lipa as well as Radiohead, Madonna, Prince, Oasis, Bon Jovi, David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, and Paul McCartney to name a few tells the record company that the mixes done at Soundhouse Studio Liverpool UK by 4 times Grammy winner Robbie Nelson and the legendary producer Mike Hedges are some of the best he’s heard!!!!!!! ????? It definitely justifies our total commitment to a studio hybrid model of world class iconic analogue and state of the art digital.

So much beautiful iconic world class analogue gear we are spoilt for choice but it does make a big Big difference. Our Stamchild 670 mk1 is arriving Tuesday and our mk2 670 arriving November. (A long waiting list for top class gear but it will be worth the wait! ) Our Audioscape “DBX comp” is already in and sitting next to our 1178 and other beauties AND our Avid S1 moving fader bank is now fully installed and integrated into our Pro Tools system where it can be driven directly by our iconic SSL 6000E/G console with full automation and total recall.
