Today is International Self Care Day!

As a manager or employer, you will spend a lot of time looking out for the wellbeing of your team, but if you don't also look after yourself you run the risk of burnout.

And you want your team to be putting their all into their work, but not at the expense of themselves, getting run down or drained.

Everyone needs to take the time to look after themselves, so they can then fulfill their responsibilities with renewed energy and enthusiasm.

So make time today, and every day, to look after yourself. Even just to pause and have a cup of tea or coffee, and take a few moments to clear your mind.

Some of our team members' plans are to treat themselves to an iced coffee, go for a walk in a favourite place, start a much anticipated new book, and to visit friends and family.

Privilege HR has been in membership of Knowsley Chamber for many years.
Originally based in Stanley Grange, Knowsley, their dynamic growth strategy has resulted in business expansion both in the UK and now abroad. Not only are they well versed in employment law, their holistic approach to people, training and development means that their clients benefit from commercially focused HR solutions. As this is the second year that Privilege HR are Strategic Partners they bring a value-added offer for our Chamber Members.

Privilege HR is also a supplier to Knowsley Council on the Place Based Business Support Programme and has worked closely with the Business Growth team for over 5 years, delivering fully funded HR support to businesses based in Knowsley.

In June, Peter chaired the Return of the HR Forum and will continue to do so throughout the Strategic Partnership. Peter said “I was delighted to chair the session and discuss the changes in employment law in this area. In the post Covid business world, it seems that for many businesses flexible working is here to stay.

However, it may not suit everyone, and may take some groundwork to find the best balance for employers and employees alike, especially as the novelty wears off and everyone has to adjust to hybrid or home working long term.

There are ways to help make hybrid working successful though, which can improve the experience for everyone. These can include:

- Encouraging open conversations on wellbeing
- Setting boundaries and implementing routines to keep work and home life separate
- Ensuring regular face to face time and team building
- Clear organisation and communication relating to tasks and expectations

If you are have implemented hybrid working, with a mixture of time spent in the workplace and remote working, it is essential to ensure that everyone involved knows what is expected of them.

Clear communication and written policies can help to establish the rules and expectations around flexible working.

With the increase of working from home and hybrid working, it is essential that employers are able to support home workers to work in a safe and productive way. One way to do so is to establish a home worker agreement.

This agreement should outline any changes to working arrangements and what your expectations are whilst employees are working from home.

Doing so allows you to set clear expectations/targets so that you don’t see a drop in productivity.

There may be some degree of flexibility required, so as with any human resources topic, communication here is key. Ensure that you keep checking in with homeworkers, and encourage them to speak openly with you about their needs.
