Community Centres and Village Halls - Consultation - West Lothian Council 21/07/2024

Some more information from West Lothian Council on the Community Centre review currently taking place is now available on their website - please take a look if you can.
We will be contacting all of our regular hall users soon to let them know how things currently stand and we will be holding a public meeting on Thursday 22nd August.

Community Centres and Village Halls - Consultation - West Lothian Council West Lothian Council has begun a consultation with Management Committees on the future provision of community facilities, including community centres and village halls.

11/07/2024

Repost . Think how many clubs, small businesses, voluntary organisation would disappear if there were no premises left in WL. 😱. Please join us at our open meeting and support us and all your local community centers/ halls. Xx

Important news about the future of Bellsquarry Village Hall - please read.

You will no doubt be aware of the huge financial pressures currently facing West Lothian Council and with that in mind they are currently undertaking a community centre review. The council need to make a Β£1.073 million saving on their community centre budget by April 2026 and so the way they manage our community centres and village halls will have to drastically change.

At the moment we have 3 options open to us:

1. Community Asset Transfer - management committee assume full ownership of the hall and all costs associated
2. Full repair and lease agreement - council retains ownership of the building but management committee are responsible for running of the hall and all costs associated
3. Recharging to management committee - Council recharge all hall costs to management committee

As a committee, this is incredibly daunting as we are a small group of volunteers who give up our time to run the hall. For any of the options above and ultimately to keep the hall open, we will need the support of our hall users and especially our community in Bellsquarry.

We would like to invite you along to a public meeting on Thursday 22nd August at 7pm so that we can share more information with you and more importantly, hear your views on the future of the hall.

In the meantime, the hall is absolutely open as usual and we have some space for new lets. We have never needed your support more than we do now so if you are looking for a venue for a party or you’re thinking of starting a new class please get in touch.

Thank you
