Dead Before Mourning

Determination. Dead Before Mourning from Surrey, England are defined by these words and more. Juggling the world as you do, journeyman frontman and guitarist Matt Hockham and the insanely talented drummer Steve Ebsworth came together in late 2012 to work on a shared path, one of pure metal. It was not long before the DBM ethos and direction were firmly decided on, and the incredible Dom Harvey was

added on lead guitar. Pat McGarvey on bass soon followed within months to complete the line-up. DBM recorded a 3-track demo in early 2013 and set out on the gig circuits of London and the UK. 2013 and 2014 were spent gigging, writing and rehearsing. During this the lads quickly recorded four new songs for an E.P. entitled ‘The Storm’. The Storm was released in 2015 and was well received by the fans (now known as ‘Mourners’). 2016 saw the band do fewer gigs and instead focus on writing as much as possible. A line-up change was on the cards and in March 2017 thundering Stephen ‘Gus’ Mussett was welcomed into the fold to replace Pat McGarvey on bass. With Gus on the bass the new sound and foundations of DBM’s backline were set in heavy metal stone. The journey that would eventually become their debut album ‘Killing Time’ started on the hottest days of summer 2017. The lads chose to work at Barnstorm Studios with engineer and co-producer Rob Barry. 9 songs were chosen from their now extensive song list and the drums began to pound. After 7 months of hard graft Killing Time is now mixed and mastered. Pounding rhythms, shredding guitars, angry and honest vocals mixed with haunting melodies are the sound of DBM’s Killing Time. Just a few weeks after Killing Time was released in to the world in May 2018 DBM soared to a new level by winning the London Metal 2 the Masses 2018 at the Dome, London July 7th. The prize, a place on the newblood stage at the prestigious U.K. Bloodstock festival 2018 and a chance to share the bands music and metal mayhem with thousands of like minded people and bands. And indeed 2019 launched DBM in to a string of live performances, the fantastic response of the audiences and the growing stream of gig offers has inspired DBM more than ever and a second album is being written in between live shows. Already 2020 is here and a new album is more than halfway complete, still under wraps the only way to hear a taste of the new material is to catch DBM at a live show! Well, 2020 got under way and the fuses on stages all over the world were pulled due to the outbreak of Covid 19. For any entertainer this is the stuff of nightmares and the this was the case for the band. However, nothing stops metal for long so after a long search for the positive lockdown 1 was spent Practicing, writing and eventually recording in full the pre-production of Dead Before Mourning's as yet untitled second album. The band are now looking forward to entering the full recording stage and itching to return to the live stage as soon as Covid 19 will allow them. With the prospect of a whole new album of material to perform the energy will be immense, that you are guaranteed! The momentum is now unstoppable, Dead Before Mourning are here! Some masking tape, nearly half a bottle of Fairy Liquid (other detergents are available) later, we fed our snake down through the tubing under the floor between the mix room and live room, a major step forward for the recording of album number 2!

What a night we had Friday! Returning to the live scene after 2 years away this was the perfect night to 'get back to work' alongside our bro's in metal Mayhem.

Incredible music and performances from Pointless Intent and Them Bloody Kids. Then of course Casey's birthday gig with the mighty Halberd to top the night off and leave everyone bruised, sweating and grinning from ear to ear!

We are very proud to be a part of the unstoppable beast that is the London Metal Coalition. Long may it reign!

As always thank you to the staff and the sound crew at The Fighting C***s Bar & Live Music Venue. A warm welcome, good beer and a great place to play and hang out.

A big thank you to Rich Crooks for all your work, did not see you stop all night!
