Hexagon is seeking a new Board Member to join the Board as one of our current members who is a Hexagon resident, is stepping down in September after serving the maximum term allowed. The Board govern Hexagon and has reserved a number of Board Member places for residents.

The Chair of Hexagon’s Board, Simon Fanshawe says “We know there is a rich resource of talent amongst Hexagon’s residents. The Board requires a broad range of skills, alongside their experience of living in social housing. What is important is that you want to work with us to build a resilient organisation that delivers good services to Hexagon residents.”

Free Employment & Training Course for Hexagon Residents

'7 Signs Employment and Training' is a two-day engaging and interactive course, which takes a different approach to looking for work or seeking training. It is useful for anyone who is unemployed to help with motivation, confidence, identifying skills, passions and setting goals.

This course can lead to paid flexible work opportunities in the advice or care sector if you decide to progress onto the Elements training programme, but there is no obligation.

Location: Hexagon Housing, 130-136 Sydenham Road, SE26 5JY.
Dates and Times: Tuesday 15th and Wednesday 16th August 9.30am - 3pm each day.

A huge thanks to the resident Estate Grading team have been out and about this week in Greenwich and Bexley. Each year Estate Graders visit a selection of Hexagon's estates to assess how communal areas live up to expected standards, from a resident perspective. All issues identified are tracked to completion, we're collating results now and will be in touch again with the outcome.

Tomorrow evening we are training tow residents to take part in the procurement of Hexagon's Estate Services Contractor. This will bring a resident perspective and make sure resident's views are heard.

BECOME A RESIDENT INSPECTOR!
Do you like to scratch beneath the surface and understand how things really work? If so, Resident Inspection might just be for you…

We’re looking for new members to join the Resident Inspection Team. Each year you will choose a priority aspect of Hexagon’s services to investigate in-depth – interviewing staff and contractors, reviewing key documents, surveying residents, site visits and more. One you have everything you need, the Team’s recommendations will be presented at Management, Director and Board level for response, and importantly we’ll track what happens as a result.

Most recently, Resident Inspectors reviewed Fire Safety and Neighbourhood Inspections, making over 20 recommendations on how Hexagon can improve, and all have been implemented.

ESTATE SERVICES: As you may be aware we are currently in the process of procuring a new Cleaning and Grounds Maintenance contractor(s). We received 14 submissions and have now completed the first two stages of shortlisting. We have some strong applicants and are excited for the next stage of the procurement process which will also involve residents interviewing the remaining candidates.

FREE SKILLS TRAINING COURSES

Hexagon has signed up to Staff Skills Training which have a vast range of courses and are available to residents.

These are certificated, online courses that you can complete in your own time. The duration of the courses varies and can be a 25 minute course to a 15 hours course. At the end of each course is a manageable test which you can retake many times.

Did you know that Hexagon is running a work experience programme for residents?

We currently have work experience placements available within our customer service team. The placements are 1 day a week for 6 weeks, You’ll get the opportunity to shadow an experienced customer service advisor and once you’re ready a chance to deal with incoming calls. The placement gives you a great insight into the role of customer services within a social housing association.

Following a recent review of our Neighbourhood Services structure, we have made some amendments, which have taken effect from March 2023.

Part of the re-structure means you may be allocated a different Neighbourhood Officer to the one you are used to working with. We know change can sometimes be unsettling, but we want to re-assure you that there is a comprehensive handover phase in place, so you shouldn’t notice this change.

We will be contacting residents to introduce your new Neighbourhood Officer and updating our noticeboards in the coming weeks.

FREE COOKERY COURSE
Starting 21st April 2023 - 2 places left!

With high energy costs we are all looking for ways to save money. Hexagon is offering a free 5 week cookery course for residents to help them learn how to produce quick and nutritious meals using less energy.

All food will be provided and participants will get to eat what they cook and take home any leftovers.

Course Title: Cookery – Low energy low cost meals

Venue: Lewisham Adult Education Centre, 100 Granville Park, London SE13 7DU (near Lewisham station and excellent bus links)

Dates: 21st April for 5 weeks. Time: 12.30 to 14.30

Hexagon will support you with travel fares, childcare costs and you will get a £20 voucher to spend on cooking equipment if you fully complete the course.

It’s that time again when as a Hexagon resident, you get to cast your vote for residents to be elected to the Board.
