New involvement opportunity for D/deaf and Disabled people who have used advice services in the past!
Have you used advice services before? Are you D/deaf and/or Disabled? If so, we would love for you to take part in our focus group on 9 October.
From 11am to 3pm, we will be showing you what we have achieved with our new advice clinic in partnership with the Disability Law Service.
We want to hear your views on where we could improve and where we should go next. You do not need to have used this service to join us, but ideally you should have some experience of using an advice service in London – whether that’s been housing, benefits, community care or employment advice.
Where: Venue TBC, though it will be fully accessible.
When: 9/10/24, 11am to 3pm.
As a thanks for your contribution, we will provide a £50 voucher and a free lunch.
We are looking for 7 D/deaf and Disabled people to get involved, so why wait? Secure your space now by emailing [email protected] or calling 020 7001 2170. Priority booking will be given to those who are also residents of Tower Hamlets.

"In 2022, my life changed overnight. I was working with my dream law firm, making strides towards a qualification I had dedicated 14 years to achieving. I then fell sick."
Disputes lawyer, Arooj Sheikh, took a year out of work after being diagnosed with two autoimmune diseases: Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) and Lupus.
Today, she is six months into a new role, and has found a 'profound sense of peace and acceptance'. 🙌
Discover her story ⬇️
"For 11 long months, I dealt with the uncertainty of not knowing what was wrong. I went from being an active person to someone who was in constant pain and unable to perform basic tasks, like climbing stairs.
"I was eventually diagnosed with two autoimmune diseases: Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) and Lupus.
"I had to leave my job, spend a year at home, completely change my diet, and undergo physio five times a week to heal my GBS. While Lupus has no cure, I learned how to manage it.
"But after a year of being out of work and grappling with my new reality, re-entering the employment world was daunting.
"In 2023, I had a chance coffee chat with Karim Anjarwalla. I candidly shared the challenges I faced and my desire to pursue a less demanding job than a lawyer.
"Karim acknowledged the hard work I had put into my career. He reassured me that my circumstances were not a reflection of my worth and that my condition would never be a barrier to my success.
"I joined him at ALN Kenya | Anjarwalla & Khanna. Six months into my role, I've found a profound sense of peace and acceptance—something I hadn't experienced since 2022.
"The support from all of my colleagues played a huge role in accelerating my healing.
"My journey is far from unique; countless individuals grapple with chronic illnesses, often facing invisible disabilities like mine. But I am determined to be a voice for us warriors.
"To my fellow warriors, you are not alone."
Thank you, Arooj, for sharing your story. ✨
