Last week, we took our team to Slovakia & Hungary with our friend & guide .
First stop was to visit to meet Szolti (and Bob! 🫏) where we tasted his energetic wines in his calm & picturesque vineyard. His cuvee, Porta #8, is a team favourite.
Next up in Slovakia we were hosted by for more delicious wine and a quick dip in the Danube. After breakfast, we were treated to a tour of their bakery where they mill their own flour to supply the area with their delicious sourdough. Thank you, .
Across the Danube and into Hungary, we met István of situated around Lake Baltic. His cellar was full of different wine vessels: barriques, amphorae, steel & more.
The grand finale was the Lees Brother’s wine fair at István’s estate. Loads of iconic winemakers showing their wines: Daniel Sage, Clos Lentiscus & Johannes Zillinger to name a few. Roland gave a fascinating talk on acidity in wine and the importance of balancing it within wine and food pairings.
Thank you for showing us round this incredible part of the world!

Next Sunday we are truly excited to welcome Robin Snowdon and Georgina Harvey of to Elliot’s Hackney! When our Group Wine Buyer first tasted their sparkling pink wine Lammas by chance on a trip to Bath it was such a special moment it sparked a curiosity to get to know this grower better.
A few weeks later Emily took some of our crew out to visit the vineyard in North Somerset where overlooking the fields of vines they tasted their 3 cuvees and 2 eau de vies. They also got to learn first hand all about Limeburn Hill, their biodynamic practises, treatment of the land and farming in the UK.
We’re so in love with them and what they do we’ve invited them to come and spend a day with us on the 3rd December where they’ll be on hand to talk through the wines. Our chefs will also be cooking dishes inspired by their visit that complement the sparkling orange, pink & red wines perfectly.
