It is becoming tradition for the clinic to donate to a charity in place of sending out seasonal cards to our patients, and we just wanted to let you know that this year we gave the dosh to a charity that supports people living with Dementia: 'Dementia Adventure'.

The charity aims to help people living with Dementia get outdoors and do fun stuff in natural surroundings which research studies give a big thumbs up to as having positive impact on health and wellbeing.

Lots of ingrown toenails coming to the clinic recently........ including my daughter, Daisy! Her case is a result of pick pick picking despite my warnings 🙄.
Luckily we managed to remedy without the need for toenail surgery. We trimmed the offending nail away (held nan's hand as a little uncomfortable), then we cleansed daily with an antimicrobial skin cleanser (clinicept is my go to ) and we had a happier toe after 10 days.

Hopefully lesson learnt with picking 🤞

Chislehurst Podiatry have signed up with SOLES 4 SOULS to do a shoe drive!
What's all that about then? Well, we basically put a shout out to all of our lovely Patients, friends and family for donations of new or lightly worn shoes which we collect and then send off to SOLES 4 SOULS. The shoes can be used " to create opportunities for women in developing nations to start and sustain a small business". I love the idea of this but was a tad sceptical about the 'new/lightly worn' bit.... But I have just been through my designated shoe cupboard (big cardboard box under the stairs) and was shocked that I can actually donate SEVEN pairs of shoes!!! (shoes are kind of 'my thing'). So please do have a check at home and see if you have any shoes, sandals, trainers, crocs that fit the 'new/lightly worn' description please pop them into the clinic when you are passing or bring them with your to your next appointment .... Hooray! We have a 'new thing'!

Vascular assessment is a routine part of my working day. One of the things we can pick up is an irregularity in the pulse' rythm. Sometimes it is obvious and sometimes not so much. This little device is going to help with determining an irregularity and provide support for onward referral via the GP 🙂

We have seen a few cases of chilblains over the past couple of weeks. This condition can be recognised by changes to the skin and can include red/blue colouration accompanied by itch and/or pain and sometimes some swelling. As podiatrists, we tend to see this located to the end of the toes. Chilbains usually resolve within 2-3 weeks but protecting your feet from a cold, damp environment can minimise the risk. This means warm sock and waterproof shoes!

Today I had the pleasure of meeting the very welcoming team at Wide Shoe Limited in Welling, Kent. This well established family run business has such a fantastic reputation that I have been recommending them to patient's with the wider foot for a few years now. I was not disappointed in my visit.. these guys know their stuff!! Hammer toes, bunions, bandages, oedema, amputation, swelling. or just bigger feet - look no further .... This team will work with you to ensure you get the right shoe or slipper for your feet 👌

Can't get o the shop? not a problem... ask for details of their approval scheme. Have a medical condition that affects the feet - let them know - certain conditions/problems mean you can purchase VAT-free......

** little hint - if you go to a paying carpark - do not be thinking 30min will do it. There is no rushing in this shop... finding the right shoe for you should not be rushed 😉

SHOES

Autumn is here and Winter is comming.... choose the right footwear for your feet to get them through the cold seasons dry, warm, comfortable, intact and safely!

There has been lots & lots of clinic room chatter with patients about footwear over the past couple of weeks.... yesturday I even saw a patient who booked an appointment totally dedicated to discussing footwear! He arrived with 3 pairs of shoes that he had recently purchased - having agreed with the shop that he would return them within agreed time period should they 'fail' a Podiatrsit's approval.....

Booom! 💣 any Pod will tell you that when we are appreciated for footwear advice, it is a deffinite '👊' moment!! (a fist-pump 'yeeeahhh' not a 'bop in the face')...

So not only does my Dad navigate mud, puddles n' shale to join us pumpkin picking, but today he endured the wind and rain to help me do yet more D.I.Y at the clinic! Stroke doesn't stop my old man... Have stick, Will go ♥️.
The clinic front door is getting there...... Slowly but surely.

I have toyed with the idea of stocking nail polishes for a while and after popping in to see our lovely neighbour Jen at JSpa, I was inspired!! As you would expect from a beauty spa, Jen and the team have nail polishes galore and even more so as the festive season approaches (check out the cute tree globes with x2 mini OPI polishes in ♥️♥️)... So, just for chrimbo, I have managed to find a vegan brand, developed by podiatrists, with a small collection of colour choice..... So the antifungal and callus products now welcome Dr Remedy to the shelf👏 - They definitely bring a bit it a bit of glam 😉
Please check them out when you can and if you fancy a bit of OPI, which I understand also have a vegan collection, (whoop whoop for the bunnies) then pop in to see Jen at Jspa just at the front of Chislehurst Podiatry... 💅
