Introducing the ‘El Oso’ Project! 🌿🐻☕️

‘El Oso’ is loved by us and our customers as well. We now offer these beans in two options: a naturally processed nano-lot, part of our Iconic beans by Elmer Masache, and a washed ‘El Oso’ in our Angel Collection, perfect for Japanese Cold Brew in our cafes.

This project, established between (our importer) and the farm cooperative ‘Agraria Frontera San Ignacio’ from Peru, aims to secure both economic and environmental sustainability and improvement.

The former is achieved by developing and growing exceptional micro-lots like this one to assist the farmers in collecting higher prices for their coffee and using the increased capital to further improve their operations with true sustainability. The latter is done through conservational support, in this case, the protection and breeding of endangered animals such as the Spectacled Bear — which is where this coffee got its name.

This coffee's story begins in the vibrant neighbourhoods of Brazil, where a special regional competition hosted by the SMC cooperative identifies the top 20 coffee lots. These exceptional lots are thoughtfully combined to create our premium blend, which finds its way to the specialty coffee market. This endeavour not only ensures better compensation for the hardworking farmers but also elevates the coffee experience for you 💰🌍👨‍🌾

The narrative doesn't stop at the origin; it extends to the neighbourhoods we roast for and the communities we serve. In a heartwarming collaboration with our local primary school in Hackney, we organised an art competition that encouraged young talents to illustrate this remarkable story. Audrey, a 6-year-old prodigy, emerged as the winner, and two runners-up shared in the joy with a treasure trove of art supplies for themselves and the entire school. Their incredible artworks now adorn our coffee bags, making the story come alive with every brew☕🎨🌟

One of our latest coffee releases ‘Koke’ is an 🇪🇹 with a story to tell.

In line with our sourcing ethos, we are excited to have this coffee back in our producer range for a following year. The coffee is named after the Koke washing station, which is located in the Yirgacheffe region of the Gedeo Zone of Ethiopia. This region has a longstanding reputation for producing extremely high quality Ethiopian coffee, and these beans are a beautiful example of this.

In contrast to last year, where we purchased the washed process version of the coffee, this coffee has been naturally processed. Because the natural process involves leaving the coffee bean inside of its cherry whilst drying, rather than removing the cherry and drying the coffee bean on its own, you can expect a higher level of sweetness and intensity of flavour. The coffee has then been profiled and roasted to further highlight the typical juicy character. In the cup you can expect a florality followed by vibrant notes of white peach, aromatic notes of Earl Grey, and a comforting note of apricot both in taste and texture. Enjoy ☕️

A Very Special Coffee ✨

A Ltd Edition coffee supporting our good friend, colleague and COO Diana Johnston has just hit three of our sites. After winning the UK 🇬🇧 Roasting Championship this special coffee has been released in order to support the costs of competing at the World Championships in Taipei 🇹🇼 in November. With only 100 bags available we have secured 15 bags of this coffee with 5 bags available at each of our Baker St, Angel Central and Hackney locations.

This F1 Natural from Tirra Estate in Costa Rica is the first of a series of exciting coffee releases on her road to the World Roasting Championships. This coffee has an incredible story behind it and you can read more about it on the official Roastersaurus blog or by popping in to one of the stores mentioned where you can secure one of the five bags available 🦖☕️

We have always strived to create meaning in the relationships we build, and our now 3 year long relationship with Fernando Beloni has proven to be a fruitful one. As the producer of both our year-round Angel Espresso, and the popular Anaerobic Paraiso filter coffee, he and his partner have been an integral part of helping us achieve the great coffee offering we have. Our Barista Lead, , caught up with him over at the World of Coffee event last month in Athens and gifted him a bag of his coffee roasted by our team ☕️
