Filipino LGBT Europe Foundation chair Chris Sta Brigida Kopp meets Overseas Worker Welfare Administration Director Dindi Tan in Manila on Thursday, 12 October 2023
Concerns and welfare of Filipinos living overseas in particular the situation of undocumented elderly migrants and LGBTQIA+ persons has been discussed.
Foundation chair Sta Brigida Kopp highlighted the importance of having an inclusive policy towards all Filipino citizens including minority groups and alternative forms of families.
In recognition of the contribution of Filipinos working overseas, the Balikbayan Program was instituted under Republic Act 6768 allowing Filipinos and former Filipino nationals from non-visa countries to enter the Philippines visa free together with their foreign national spouse, children and/or parents.
In December 2021, during the height of covid-19 pandemic same-s*x marriage certificates issued by foreign states and governments were temporarily accepted by the Philippine Bureau of Immigration to prove family relations when travelling and entering the Philippines.
This temporary yet inclusive policy and development was welcomed warmly by Filipino LGBT Families living overseas. (Read more via this link: https://www.filipinolgbt.eu/2022/01/24/filipinos-and-foreign-spouses-with-same-s*x-marriage-temporarily-allowed-entry-to-ph/)
With the creation of the new Department of Migrant Workers, the Filipino LGBT Europe foundation is optimistic that more inclusive policies will be generated in the advancement and protection of all Filipinos living and working overseas regardless of their s*xual orientation and gender identities.

Date for Diaries: Pride in London to return on 1st July 2023
We are delighted to announce that Pride in London is confirmed to take place on Saturday 1st July 2023.
The team at Pride in London has worked exceptionally hard to build an environment that welcomes all members of the LGBT+ community, from all walks of life, wherever they may be from, and whatever their personal reasons for participating in Pride may be. Our previous mandate culminated on July 2nd 2022 when we held the UK’s largest ever Pride event, the 50th anniversary of the first march in the UK. Over 1.5 million people took to the streets of London to cheer on the parade and enjoy the performances and appearances from artists and LGBT+ personalities which took place across 5 central London stages. Following this landmark event, we are honoured to share the news that we have been nominated for a number of awards, in recognition of 2022’s milestone Pride event.
Pride in London looks forward to working with all of our partners and stakeholders to continue building on our recent successes, and to push forward in advancing our relationships with LGBT+ grassroots communities across the capital. Thank you to the amazing volunteers who help to deliver this event.
Pride in London CEO Christopher Joell-Deshields said “We were ecstatic to be back on the streets of London in protest and celebration in 2022 with . We look forward to London’s LGBT+ communities coming together again on July 1st 2023 as we continue to show up for visibility, unity and equality for all LGBT+ people”.
We will open our call for volunteers and registration to participate in next year’s event in January 2023, via our website, www.prideinlondon.org.

Filipino LGBT Europe chair visits Home for the Golden G**s in Manila
On 18 July 2022, Filipino LGBT Europe chair Chris Sta Brigida visited the Home for Golden G**s in Manila where he met Ramon Busa, head of the Home for Golden G**s in Manila, and some of it’s residents.
In 2020, Filipino LGBT Europe called for a Special Meeting to discussed the impact of the pandemic to Filipino LGBT community in Europe and the Philippines. It identified the elderly group as one of the most vulnerably sector that needed help.
Through the Online Bingo and Online Zumba Fundraising events, Filipino LGBT Europe was able to visit the Home for the Golden G**s and delivered food packs and PhP 50,000.00 cash donations which was used to pay for rent, water and electricity bills.
During the foundation’s recent visit, Sta Brigida delivered sacks of rice and food donations for the residents.
The Home for the Golden G**s, or simply The Golden G**s, is a Philippine non-profit organization that provides support and care facilities for elderly LGBTQ people.

Filipino LGBT Europe attends Consultation of Department of Migrant Workers with Stakeholders in Asia, Europe & America
On Sunday, 10 July 2022, an online consultation of the Department of Migrant Workers with Stakeholders on the Guidelines on the Use of the Agarang Kalinga at Saklolo para sa mga OFW na Nangangailangan (AKSYON) Fund was held.
Filipino LGBT Europe foundation appreciates and welcomes the creation of AKSYON Fund to assist Filipino Workers Overseas and their families who are in distress and need medical, legal and repatriation help.
During the consultation, we submitted our concern regarding the extension of access to such assistance to LGBT couples (and their families) who are legally married overseas.
Filipino LGBT Europe chair Chris Sta Brigida submitted the following concern:
“I am very happy to see that we now have this fund available specially to Filipino Migrant Workers who are in distress and need help. It is very good that OFW’s families are included in the said fund.
Considering that the Family Code in the Philippines only recognises marriages between opposite s*x, please can you kindly confirm if LGBT couples who are legally married overseas would also be included and considered for them and their families to have access to this assistance."
