Our Story

The area of Brompton Cross in South Kensington attracts some of London’s most discerning visitors and the warmth, intimacy and Italian charm of Daphne’s is at the heart of its appeal. Founded in 1964 by theatre agent Daphne Rye – the woman who famously discovered Richard Burton – this London institution has long been a favourite amongst the residents of Chelsea, as well as visitors from further afield. Its seasonal Italian country cooking, sourced with great attention to detail, is justly famed around the world.

Half a century after its establishment Daphne’s reopened its doors in June 2014 to reveal a glamorous new look. The esteemed Martin Brudnizki Design Studio created a space that represents the vibrant colour palettes of Italy, ensuring that Daphne’s maintains the effortless charm and familiarity synonymous with that country’s rich culture. Highlights include the pink marble-topped bar, vintage Italian 1950s Murano glass chandeliers and a perceptively curated collection of European modern art adorning the walls.
